Do you have pray the Rosary in English or in Latin?

The prayers aren’t more efficacious in Latin, so it makes sense to pray in a language that you can understand. But the Latin prayers have become second nature for me, so I wouldn’t tell anyone not to learn them.I pray in English, I find that praying in my native tongue is, well, “more prayerful”.
I guess it’s because I’m not worried about pronouncing things wrong, or forgetting words, so the words & prayers just flow.
I could pray the rosary in Lain, if I wanted, or Italian and probably Spanish too.The prayers aren’t more efficacious in Latin, so it makes sense to pray in a language that you can understand. But the Latin prayers have become second nature for me, so I wouldn’t tell anyone not to learn them.

Well that’s the point. You can get to a certain level of proficiency where it makes no difference. I can pray it fluently in English, French, and Latin - none of them “feels” different to me. Personal preference can come into play, but that’s not an objective standard. Our Lord would have prayed often in a sacred language (Hebrew) apart from the one He would have used in day-to-day conversation (Aramaic).I could pray the rosary in Lain, if I wanted, or Italian and probably Spanish too.
And a priest friend of mine is teachimg me the Our Father & Hail Mary in Tagalog, so maybe soon I could do that too.
But for me, praying in a language other than my own, just doesn’t seem like praying.![]()
Pretty much ditto.I voted “mostly in latin” but I do pray both. When I’m alone its strictly latin. But I find most people do not know latin, so when in a group we pray in english.
To me there is nothing more beautiful than the latin Ave Maria, gratia plena. (except, maybe when its chanted)![]()
Absolutely. I pray in my native language but when I am in an English speaking group or NO mass I pray in English. It doesn’t feel foreign anymore. Same with Latin. It is so beautiful. You can get to a certain level of proficiency where it makes no difference. I can pray it fluently in English, French, and Latin - none of them “feels” different to me.
This. There’s no real pattern to how I choose, but I use English and Latin. Not at the same time though.
Sometimes I find I can focus on the mysteries more easily when I pray in Latin.
English most days. Sometimes on Saturdays I say it in Latin.I haven’t done a post in a while.

It’s not hard, it just takes months of practice. Start by reading the Ave Maria and then challenge yourself to say as much as you can before you need to look at the written prayer; eventually you’ll know it. Then use this method to learn the Gloria, then the Pater Noster, then the Creed, Salve Regina, and St. Michael Prayer. Incorporate one Latin prayer at a time until you have them all. It’s very rewarding.I would love to learn it in Latin, though. I have a prayer book that has the Rosary in English,Latin, and Spanish, but I wish I could learn it verbally, if you know what I mean.
