Do you prefer the OF or EF of Mass?

It’s difficult for those who denigrate the OF Mass to accept the clear advantages/improvements of this form over the EF Mass.

The Low Mass is hardly “solemn.” It can be celebrated reverently, but not solemnly.

Not saying all parishes shouldn’t have a dress, code, that’s for sure.

Since we’re no longer kissing strangers during the sign of peace, is hand shaking mandatory? Is smiling with hands folded while gently bowing the head toward one’s neighbors not equally acceptable?

If physical contact is to be required, according to a study cited in this article we should be doing the fist bump. 😇

I have seen this outside the entrance, though, at a parish which offers the TLM:
I have health issues and also take medicine which causes me to get hot and pour sweat easily.

Additionally, I don’t own a car so I have to walk to Mass.

Last but not least, for some reason the parishes around me almost NEVER turn the AC on - middle of July and 90 degrees out - windows all open and AC off - and this is at the Cathedral!

I wear a clean, plain color t shirt, clean and long length khaki shorts, and clean suede sandals to Mass in the summer.

Honestly, if I couldn’t wear shorts, tshirt and sandals to Mass in the Summer, then I would simply not go to Mass from June through August.

I would be too embarrassed and people would be scandalized to have a stinky fat man pouring sweat and sitting next to them.

I think he’s trying to be sanitary… The Early Church did not have to deal with antibiotic resistant superbugs : /

I think the last reading from John should have been taken into the OF.

Exactly. And I’m not a “germophobe,” however I’ve worked in bacteriology and taught medical microbiology.
I really don’t care if others want to shake hands during the sign of peace. They shouldn’t care that I don’t. And when the Agnus Dei starts, the sign of peace, in whatever form, should cease.😉

It was the kiss of peace which Justin Martyr does refer too. However the priest does do the kiss of peace on the altar. It wasn’t a social gathering, the kiss of peace was toward Christ.

What you are posting is axiomatic to both “sides” of this discussion.

Why are you worried what people think? We aren’t at church to impress anyone. Of course modesty is the best but like you said if you have a health issue etc it’s not a big deal. What matters is you are going to Mass.
However i don’t like how some people dress who can dress more appropriate. Some teen girls at Mass I can’t believe their parents even allow them to dress like that to begin with, let alone at Mass.
Who would have thought that until the 70s girls were by an unspoken rule basically had to wear veils. I’m not sure why and when that stopped being the norm.

Yah but there is no need for us to shake each other’s hands especially when most people don’t even get why we do it. We can say hi to people before and after Mass.

The 1983 Code of Canon Law dispensed of the requirement for women to veil.

However, that’s only the requirement. It is still strongly encouraged for women to veil.
