I have to say I’ve had really little exposure to “the news” of late.

Last time I watched the news I was close to despairing at us as a society, as the human race, putting out the various fires. Pushing back the hatred, the misery in this world.

I guess I need to at least pray as much about the world as I consume news stories.

I acknowledge that as a responsible citizen one ought to know what’s going on.

I’ve also discovered that consuming partisan news isn’t good for me. It’s so easy to get worked up and get mad. Though then again, being mad could be productive.

Anyway, how much do you expose yourself to the news? Have you found a healthy balance for yourself? Any recommendations?

I have bookmarks for lots of news outlets. I try to look at US news of course, but also at Canada and the UK.

I check headlines and ‘ration’ myself by what I want to read about.

Our town has a physical newspaper but I only look at the online version. I can comment anonymously and I “vent” my frustrations about various local happenings.

I don’t follow sports too much, but I have a couple places to check weather.

I need to follow it a little bit more than I do now. I don’t watch it often.

No, but I am REALLY selective about who I read.
Most of it is very biased or outright garbage.

👍

At this point, my regular news source is our local newspaper. Local news matters more to me than national and international news. I’m actually putting an effort into ignoring most news, particularly regarding presidential stuff.

There is a saying in the news “business”. It is, “if it bleeds, it leads.” You might keep it in mind when you view the news. Disasters, murder, crime, airplane crashes, terrorism, and all will always lead the news because people in general have a morbid curiosity about such things and want to read about it. It’s why people rubberneck at an automobile crash.

I wonder, if you look at the immediate world around you, do you constantly see strife, death, and destruction, or do you see everyday people going about their everyday lives, solving problems, overcoming difficulties, enjoying their lives, and celebrating the little moments of happiness and triumph that are never going to make front page headlines, anywhere?

I find life is much better in general that the “news” would have you believe. Besides, the days of the news being balanced and objective have gone the way of the 13 inch black and white television set. Today, the news outlets all have some political or social agenda.

Shalom

I don’t tend to watch tv news. Its bias towards a liberal perspective and for that matter just plain depressing a lot of the time. I don’t want to see harrowing images of war and destruction before going to bed. Nor do I want to hear church-bashing at any excuse or about the latest trendy liberal cause of the week. For the same reasons, I don’t read newspapers, asides from sometimes the local paper.

I tend to spend at most a few minutes a day reading news online on particular sites that are not overly bias looking at subjects that interest me.

I most definitely limit the amount I spend reading the World News Forum here at CAF! :slapfight: 😃

When I’m at my mom’s house, the TV is always on, so I see a few hours of cable and local news there every day. At home, I sometimes keep the radio on the local news channel, and when I turn on the computer, there is a news feed I glance at, but I also try to keep long periods throughout the day without any media.

I don’t rely on newspapers or television news, because of the poor quality of most of the reportage and commentary. I have two blogs that I look at every day, to stay up-to-date with what is going on in the world. One of them is a conservative political blog, written by a team of lawyers. They are very well-informed and provide in-depth commentary about what is going in U.S. politics, as well as international news. The other blog is written by a priest and it keeps me informed about what is going on in the Church.

Apart from those two blogs, I stay away from the media as much as I can. It’s just so easy to waste time reading/watching stuff on TV or the Internet.

I do now. I find too much news coverage is everything Trump. Understandably, but after the bruising election I’m a bit burnt out.
