I’m new to attending Holy Hour and am confused about the beginning …and I’m watching everybody else to see what they do. When the priest approaches the tabernacle to open it, retrieve the host and walk to the monstrance which is on the altar in order to place the host in the monstrance … about half of the people kneel and the other half are standing. Once he arranges the monstrance on the altar, he steps back, genuflects and then incenses the altar and then we sing “O Salutaris” … and we follow a little book with different prayers in it that say (STAND, or KNEEL) next to the various prayers and at the completion of that, the priest withdraws from the sanctuary and the monstrance remains… the rest of the time of Holy Hour is for private reflection where people sit or kneel as they choose in front of the exposition.
So in the beginning … am I supposed to be standing or kneeling? (and why … if anybody knows)… my inclination is to kneel … which is what I do, but I’m wondering if standing is correct? … or why other people may perceive standing is correct vs. kneeling… did they receive teaching that I missed out on? Help.
