Actually guns ARE part of the problem. No one person should be able to kill that many people that quickly with that type of weapon. Whenever there’s a fire or earthquake we adapt and take steps to help reinforce and prevent future structural and other architectual failures, but with guns we cannot simply do NOTHING. There has to be some kind of change, whether in closing gun show loopholes (which is almost unanimously agreed upon) , making these “bump stocks” illegal or at least harder to get//have to register etc, and most of all, just common sense, which no one seems to have on the panicked “Gun control means they’ll take our guns” side, which is false.
Have you actually read about the event? It took law enforcement 72 minutes to get to the shooter. 72 minutes!

A trained marksman (and not this evil schmuck) should have been able to murder FAR MORE than 59 in 72 minutes with a WWI vintage bolt action rifle. You gonna ban those next?

A dozen new laws won’t help.
I disagree. It is going to depend on the law and the punishment for breaking the law. Having stricter gun control laws will make guns more difficult to obtain. the guns used in the Connecticut massacre and in the Las Vegas massacre were all obtained legally, were they not? There should have been laws in place preventing the sale and distribution of this type of weapon. If those laws had been in place, the outcome would not have been the same.

What really blows my mind is we can’t restrict the 2nd amendment in any way.
Are you kidding? The 2A is already highly restricted – especially here in California with ridiculous laws.

I assume they were obtained legally, but I don’t know that for a fact. What I do know is that he modified them to make them fully automatic. The modification is already illegal, so no new law would help.

Besides, you weren’t really getting my point. My point is that the current laws aren’t being enforced if a criminal manages to get a gun “legally”. A new law won’t solve anything.

I do support the second amendment, and FYI, nearly every pistol being made today is semi auto. Revolvers and singles stopped being popular in the Reagan admin.
“Singles”? What “singles” Single shot pistols? What are you talking about exactly? Single-shot antique black powder pistols that aren’t legally firearms? Single-shot hunting pistols like the Remington XP-100?

You’re really tipping your hand that you know very little about firearms.

Can you be specific? What rights do you have that I dont?

Bear in mind our different systems of Government.

neither of us can stop our respective governments deciding to bring in SSM , for example.

what % income tax do those in your highest tax bracket pay? How much of that can they offset?

read my link further up about the decline in gun related violence since tighter gun laws were introduced. facts speak for themselves. it worked here, as far as gun related violence goes.

it would really help if you guys understood our gun amnesty programs.

we can still have guns. My father had 3, my brother had a few. My son is in the process of getting his gun license.

Nice to hear you admit that Trump is competent. To be fair, a rebellion of the degenerates and third world invaders mustered by the Left would be trounced thoroughly and easily.

Your government took guns from the people with a carrot and stick approach. That does not make it any less wrong.

nope, only certain types.

my go to choice in putting horses or livestock down is single gunshot by an experienced operator.

esp horses, you got to get just the right spot. same goes for pigs. my neighbour spent 20 odd years as an operator in our military, with time as a trained sniper. He has some impressive guns and is a crack shot.

The NRA does not speak for all gun owners, nor is it the only pro-gun lobbying group out there. It just has the highest profile and tends to shout the loudest. The NRA has at times actively tried to undermine lobbying efforts by other pro-gun groups. From my perspective, they’re so concerned with keeping their little piece of the power pie, they don’t get much accomplished.
The NRA is the US’s oldest civil rights organization. All the rest of the legitimate pro-gun lobbying groups summed together don’t equate to a small bit of the NRA. As a lifetime member I often cringe at their public face. On the other hand, were it not for the NRA, things would be far worse in terms of “gun control” today. The NRA gets a great deal accomplished. Not always in a visible manner though. It’s outstanding at lobbying. It’s that expertise and success that draws the hatred of people like Hillary Clinton.

I really hope one day that the NRA will turn the corner and become more palatable to a far larger number of Americans.

carrot and stick approach?

do you understand what voluntary means? those who handed in weapons did so out of free choice and because they believed in the new laws. the new laws came after Port Arthur Massacre. In which my boss lost his sister and her husband.

people supported the amnesty. and still do. Those that didnt, of course, werent rocking up with weapons. We also banned, in different states, martial arts weapons. no buy back for those

you said you don’t have gangs. you do
you said you had tight security. you may, but, your politician says gangs are smuggling them in.
i linked to articles showing the increase in gun violence. are they wrong?

repost your link

When single shot, smoothbore muskets were the state of the art in arms, they were the “assault weapons” of the day! Some people can’t seem to wrap their head around that fact.

A great music video by an Aussie who likes firearms. This singer had to turn in many of his firearms shown in the first part of the music video after Australia began their gun confiscation program. Terribly sad.
