…what if you needed the latest weapons to take to that weekend retreat–wouldn’t that infringe upon the right to have it NOW!

Hi, Lemuel, are you stuck in the 1800’s? I can’t believe one single place that I’ve ever visited having a "welcome to X–drop your guns at the sheriffs or we’ll com’n hunt’n you, u heah?

Gun Control Laws should focus on 2 things at least. Putting a complete halt on the channels of access of Illegal Guns.

Second, screening everyone for specific traits that would make them susceptible to doing what Stephen Paddock did and other active shooters.

There are a lot of ways to screen people for potential threats. IE:

Yes!

…get your fuzz while chewing tobacco and checking out the latest guns and ammo in the back of the store, bring cash cause we don’t allow carding!

But one of the problems is the NRA itself. There have been accusations of members of the NRA being a source of these channels of illegal guns getting into bad hands that have been whispered thru the back alley grapevine.

They own motive to do so is very strong.

…wait, so criminals that want guns know the gun dealers? Didn’t one study suggest that guns just simply fall into their hands or that their relatives gives them access to them?

out of context to what was being answered

however

yes and no

yes in that distributors and vendors usually have someone with an FFL authorized to call in background checks

no back alley entrepreneurs and most privates sellers don’t. will the fact that they don’t stop the sale? will both buyer and seller agree and go to a legit establishment for a background check just because it’s the law?

what gun control law will stop any person from obtaining an illegal gun?

who are gun control people trying to control?
Can’t you not see that no control on guns will allow more guns to end up in the hands of criminals and those bent on committing gun-related crimes?

These were not federal governments; British: monarch; colonies: not even a pot to boil water in.

Hi!

Your first point is the reason why I’m still on this thread–hoping that some will understand that there is a need to stop the distribution of guns that go missing from all sources (manufacturers, distributors, vendors, police/government buy-backs, etc.); however, your second point is hardly possible; how many people would offer that they want to kill or commit suicide?

I concur!

It’s the same age-old problem: greed!

…hence the need for a better system of gun-control, which by necessity must include the people who are raking in the money whether a gun enthusiast or a career criminal or a joe/jill bent on murder get access to their guns.

what is your better system?

how do you regulate private sales when the buyer and seller won’t follow the rules?

i don’t see any of the thousand of laws on the books working now. what is that magic law that will do the job?

i believe what will work is prosecutors stop dropping the gun charge and have mandatory penalties; but, only because it removes the element performing the crime.

unfortunately due to the black market even if you ban all guns you will still have your nut job go off.

I fear there is too much money to be made in the arms business to ever win this one. Death and violence is good for business.

You equate “right” with do whatever you wish regardless of the cause and consequences.
No. I relate right as do whatever you wish, but you may not harm others or their property. Consequences are important. To borrow from A.S. Neill, _Freedom, not license _
