I mean they’re not having sex with same gender so…shouldn’t they?
Yeah, not a fan of that “they can still turn straight” option either. Some people are given the grace to become attracted to a member of the complimentary sex and get married, but I don’t see that happening for a man if he wanted to become a priest. It’s possible for a person to be bisexual – Both Sexes Attracted?? – but despite the amount of OSA, there’s still the SSA aspect, and it’s often not something that just goes away, like a cold. It’s more like trying to change your eye color: you can put on contact lenses, but the color’s still under there. Not sure of the relevance of “Yeah but they can still turn straight if they wanted to” seems an immature answer and not only that, somewhat irrelevant to the question I think. The CC teaches that same-sex attraction is not something that is chosen, so when we ask questions like this we assume they cannot stop having SSA.
So the question is - do you think someone with SSA should be able to become a priest if they wanted to? So the answers should be Yes, No, or Undecided. Whether someone with SSA can become ‘cured’ is a whole different debate and its best if we keep that out of this discussion.
Indeed! His death certificate was the first one filed, out of all the victims at the WTC. When I learned that (while I was dealing with my own self-discovery about my own inclinations), I had to laugh at some of the absurd claims that 9-11 happened because of SSA people in America. It’s interesting that God chose to call one of His SSA shepherds home on that very day…I just finished a biography of Fr Michyal Hedge, the chaplain of the NYFD. He died on 9/11. He had SSA, and yet was considered a wonderful, spiritual leader by the whole fire department; he was not considered so wonderful by the Cardinal at the time, mainly for his independent spirit. He also did great work with the AIDs community and with people associated with the friary. The world would have been less wonderful with out Fr Hedge.
Have you read St. Aelred or St. Anselm? Take those two for example and that’s just starting with the A’s in England in the Middle Ages…We are still reeling from the problems caused by SSA priests. It used to be that they were not permitted to become priests, then someone started sneaking them in and after that, it seems the rules were relaxed.
I know that not all priests with SSA particpated in that type of behavior, but the priesthood is an all-male situation, and that is a situation which is a temptation for men with SSA. And men without SSA shoudn’t have worry about that possibility in their surroundings.
Are you referring to the chrono- and homocentric view that expressions of affection unusual in our current culture are evidence of SSA?Have you read St. Aelred or St. Anselm? Take those two for example and that’s just starting with the A’s in England in the Middle Ages…
Sorry all, that should be problems cause by some priests with SSA.We are still reeling from the problems caused by SSA priests.
Yes, but no, yet both and neither. There’s a massive gap between SSA and Acts…Are you referring to the chrono- and homocentric view that expressions of affection unusual in our current culture are evidence of SSA?
I’m sorry, I give No Credence to silly theories put forth by people who are very sneakily promoting a sinful agenda.
The CC also teaches that the proper term for it is homosexuality. I wish I knew why so many people were so quick to run to that certain river in Egypt to flee the h-word and jump on the “SSA” bandwagon. Makes no sense to me at all. It’s called homosexuality. Not SSA.The CC teaches that same-sex attraction is not something that is chosen, so when we ask questions like this we assume they cannot stop having SSA.
Caused by homosexual priests, or SSA priests? I wish whoever started the notion of “SSA” realized how much confusion it causes. It’s called homosexuality. And you’re right - we are still reeling from the problems caused by homosexual priests. Why on earth would anyone want to encourage a **homosexual **to enter the priesthood? Why?We are still reeling from the problems caused by SSA priests…
That’s as may be. I don’t see a massive push on the part of celibate people with SSA to normalize homosexual activity; they are not the ones running around saying everything which would in our sex-saturated culture be considered evidence of sexual attraction is evidence that the person who wrote it was homosexual.Yes, but no, yet both and neither. There’s a massive gap between SSA and Acts…
I don’t understand the above comment. Seriously. I tried re-reading it, and what I have bolded appears to be a run-on sentence (“evidence of…is evidence that…???”) Clearly, there’s a lot of confusion when people can’t simply call homosexuality for what it is.That’s as may be. Sorry, that just doesn’t fly.
No! 98% of the recent scandals were homosexual in nature.I mean they’re not having sex with same gender so…shouldn’t they?
As a bisexual man, I find it incredibly insulting that you would equate child abuse with LGBT orientation. Healthy adults with SSA are attracted to other adults, not children or adolescents. To suggest anything else is an unfair and mean-spirited attack on good people who are doing their best with their feelings, and can only serve to whip up hatred against people who are, by the CCC, to be treated with compassion.Caused by homosexual priests, or SSA priests? Sorry, that isn’t very clear, esp without context.I don’t understand the above comment. Seriously.
