Do you think Jesus ever had a pet?

Was it common for the Jews in that time to have pets like we do today?
 
I’m sure that there were always dogs and cats around, but I rather doubt that the people kept personal pets.

There’s lots of classical evidence as in depictions of pets in art. It’s not completely out of the realm of possibility.
 
In general, the average people in 1st Century in that part of the world did not have pets. Pets were luxuries for the very wealthy.

Dogs and cats were around to serve a purpose and I am sure that Jesus was gentle to these creatures.
 
I don’t think it is like today,yet I bet if Jesus was in the area that animals would feel the Love and find their way to Him.Surely He would look upon them with warmth and caring, feed them a few scraps and if need be find them a home. God bless us all.
 
It’s likely that a child might be close to some cat or dog or have a personal fondness for one of the farm animals like a cow.

I’m sure Jesus did a whole lot of normal human things in 30 years that we just never heard about. He was a gentle and loving person so I am sure animals were drawn to his kindness.
 
He had a donkey as a friend, that rode him into Jerusalem.
 
Cats have been held around households since ancient times to keep the vermin population down. Think of how ancient Egypt revered cats! I suspect Jesus petted some cats in his lifetime.
I was quite taken with how Pope Benedict had several pet cats. I wonder if he still does.
I wonder if any pope ever had a dog?
 
If Jesus ever had a pet, I suppose he’d be the best pet-owner of all times. Loving it to no end. and dogs of course love to no end.
 
This was not Christ’s personal “pet”, but a borrowed animal:

Matthew, chapter 21

Jesus sent two disciples,
saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tethered, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them here to me.*

And if anyone should say anything to you, reply, ‘The master has need of them.’ Then he will send them at once.”

Didn’t that one Samaritan woman tell Jesus that even the dogs ate scraps from their master? Isn’t that proof of pets back then?
 
And Christ did live in Egypt for a while. Maybe he had a cat?
 
You’re kidding, right?

If you want to read about a pet, crack that bible open to the Book of Tobit (Douay-Rheims or Knox bibles).

The wealthy had pets that were only pets, but of course people everywhere have always had a companionship relationship with animals they kept for a purpose.
One has to wonder if the Holy Family could even afford that.

Having said that, a person so filled with the Holy Spirit that the wind obeyed him and fig trees shriveled at his word would not have found animals would be afraid of him. I would expect that every living thing would have instantly known him as their Master, and acted accordingly. When you’re the Creator, in a sense all of the universe is filled with your pets.

He also told parables about kings and people who owned vineyards. Everyone showed up in his parables, from the least to the greatest. (I have heard that a better translation than dogs who ate scraps would have been puppy dogs who ate scraps, which suggests an affectionate sort of position in the family.)
