I’m happy to share my cats with him any time he wants to visit.

Well pets as we have today are a very new thing. Even 50 years ago, it wasn’t as widespread to own a dog or cat in your house. My mom lived on a farm and her mom would never allow an animal inside the house. But they did have barn cats to help with mice. And I think a sheep dog.

I think in Jesus’s time it would be similar. People were too poor to have excess, useless animals to feed. If they had a purpose, they kept them. But not inside.

Even though it’s pushing 90 F degrees here, I’ll take 2 warm puppies if they’ll scare away the devil. I’m being hassled by him the last couple days.

One of the reasons the Europeans had so many diseases they were resistant to that were transported to the New World was the close proximity with which people who kept domesticated animals lived with their animals. They could only afford to construct so much shelter against the elements.

I’m not saying the animal stayed in the house. I don’t see why an animal wouldn’t be considered a pet just because it’s an outdoors cat vs an indoors cat
