Distracted, You must not be Roman Catholic, thats why you have different views than us. BUt please study Church doctrine, then pray for Grace to understand them… Give it some time, then make your decision, You really need to learn alot of the Church doctrine first then you can understand why we say what we do. Then even if you disagree you will see, why we believe what we do. Peace be with you.

Sorry distracted was reading too fast, I though it was you who said Jesus was married to Mary M. Oh LORd have Mercy Why on earth if Jesus was married would he try to hide it. Please for the person who wrote this learn the truth for goodness sake, Im sure your Church does not teach this, Im sure no church does.

Yerusalyim;:
MOREOVER, the scriptures instruction for presbyters and bishops mention them being married.
The specific requirement is to have a wife **and **children. 1 Timothy 3.

If you interpret it to mean that they must be married, and must have children, then St. Paul is breaking his own law, even while creating it.

How does that compute? 🤷

Was the apostle Peter married??

Where did the idea of priests not being allowed to marry come from?

.

Thanks for the link but there is no statement or teaching there from Paul that says “priests shouldn’t be allowed to marry”.

Also why did the Lord Jesus choose a married man (Peter) to become a disciple?

.
Celibacy is a discipline of the Church; not a dogma. It’s one of those things that can change according to the needs of the times. When Jesus was alive on the earth, He chose both single and married men. (None of them ever got married after being chosen by Jesus.)

The reason we currently follow the discipline of celibacy for priests in the Church is because St. Paul said, (I Corinthians 7:8) **Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. **

Later in the same chapter, he continues the same line of thought by saying, (vs. 32-35) I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

So single men and married men were good enough for the Lord Jesus but not good enough for the Catholic Church?

Is the Catholic Church really following the Lord Jesus or is it following its own traditions?

I noticed that Paul says nothing in this passage about priests not being allowed to marry. Also you forgot to post the next verse.

8 But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; 9 but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. 1 Corinthians 7:8-9

Jesus gave to the Catholic Church the authority to establish discipline as She sees fit. (Matthew 18:18)

We are not required to be an exact copy of the Church as it was in 33 AD, otherwise we would have only one Church, which would be in Jerusalem, and it would have 12 Bishops; kind of unwieldy, don’t you think? 😃

If you don’t like to be celibate, nobody is asking you to be a priest. Seriously - nobody wants you for a priest. You don’t have to be celibate.

The Lord Jesus gave the Catholic Church the authority to go against what He did??

Are the followers of the Lord Jesus required to follow Him in His example and teachings?

A classic example of a personal attack because you can’t defend the position of your argument.

You assume far too much (by the way: have you ever broken that word ASSUME up?? Just wondering)…

You have no idea whether or not i “try and live their lives”… I dare say my life is likely far more holy than that of some priests i have had the misfortune of knowing…

When you see a priest who doesn’t live in a Christian manner… it is worse than seeing someone outside that vocation doing the same… (far more troublesome).

In any case, i think it is very rude to automatically assume that someone’s life isn’t as holy as another’s… esp when you don’t know me from Adam…
I don’t appreciate the dig about breaking up the word assume.
If you continue to say bad things about the priests with your experiences, no one is going to understand why it is you harbor so much resentment toward the priesthood. Are you afraid to say anything because we will not believe you? Or perhaps you are making it up since you refuse to share it with us.

Jesus set the model, and expected the Apostles and their successors to use the brains God gave them. He gave them authority to set matters of discipline, yes. We no longer live in 1st century Palestine. A celibate priesthood is what works today.

If there is ever need of a change in this, the Pope will let us know. 🙂

Could you show me how giving you life entirely up To Christ goes against what Christ did. That doesnt quite make sense to me.

Are you suggesting that humans know better that the Lord Jesus, the Son of God who in His perfect in wisdom picked a married man (Peter) to be a disciple? Are you suggesting that the Lord Jesus made a mistake, that He should have only picked single men?

Really???

So you are following a man instead of following the Lord Jesus.
