Do you think priests should be allowed to marry?

Could you show me how giving you life entirely up To Christ goes against what Christ did. That doesnt quite make sense to me.
Are you suggesting that Peter (a married man) didn’t give his life entirely up to Christ?

.

Sorry distracted was reading too fast, I though it was you who said Jesus was married to Mary M. .
not hardly… i believe everything the Church teaches… whether i like it or not… :hypno:

J. A celibate priesthood is what works today.

If there is ever need of a change in this, the Pope will let us know. 🙂
i think it works for most priests, but not necessarily all. I don’t feel it is good to make blanket decisions for an entire group of people… that things should be on a case by case basis…

so here does it say Jesus married anyone?? i have read the new testament through several times (and had it read to me @ Mass over and over…)…

If you don’t like to be celibate, nobody is asking you to be a priest. Seriously - nobody wants you for a priest. You don’t have to be celibate.
but what if someone has been a priest for many years… When ordained, things in his life were very different than later… Say he was ordained while a virgin and then something happened, maybe someone seduced him (again, not trying to blame the woman  )… but anyway… if the priest meets someone who loves Jesus… and wants to marry… well, i am not so sure he should stay in thepriesthood… but another issue that hasn’t been addressed here is the one of dispensations to be laicized… It seems that the Church takes “forever” to grant those… from what i have heard. True, i don’t know as much about it as i would like…
(and i think one reason i don’t know is because Catholics, generally, don’t like to talk about that kind of thing).

I don’t appreciate the dig about breaking up the word assume.
If you continue to say bad things about the priests with your experiences, no one is going to understand why it is you harbor so much resentment toward the priesthood. Are you afraid to say anything because we will not believe you? Or perhaps you are making it up since you refuse to share it with us.
Again, you assume too much (…and i apologize for saying that about breaking up that word… I guess i was out of patience that day… 😦 ).

But anyway, why do you assume that i have some kind of resentment toward the priesthood?

I think the celibate priesthood is one of the most beautiful things on Earth… if not THE most… (well, having babies probably ties with that…)

What i have a resentmenet toward is certtain priests i have run into. And actually, i really dont’ harbor resentment toward them either (not consciously  )… just… well, i can’t think of a word for it right now…
Yes, i can: disappointment… in the extreme…
And i have suspected more than once that maybe one of the resons they are so disagreeable is because they are tired of fightingg their … physical desires…
As stated elsewhere, i have fought these desires for a long time myself… I know it is hard to always fight such natural feelings… so i can empathize with priests struggling (sometimes) the same way… No human being who is celibate for years and years struggles wtih sexual desires 24/7… but (speaking for myself)… when the desire hits… it can be pretty… (what word??) uh… formidable…
All i am saying is that i think it is un-natural to always and everywhere, every day in every way forever and ever… suppress your desires… esp when/if you are in love… (OK - if you even just think you are in love…).

So you are following a man instead of following the Lord Jesus.

.
I know this sounds simplistic but to follow the pope is to follow Christ… because Jesus gives His Church His Spirit…

Have you ever spent time before the Blessed Sacrament??

It is easy to believe in the infallibility of the pope when one knows what Presence he is in (Jesus’ Real Presence is in the Catholic Church 24/7)…

a lot of Catholic churches are open in the day-time (in the city especially)… Maybe you could find one and spend time with Jesus there… (You kind of have to spend more than 30 minutes there…)… There is no better way to have a personal relationship with Jesus… He gets very personal there… Well, Ok, i can only speak for myelf… but i think i can also probably speak for others… who have been there…
God bless… 🙂

I don’t think priests are mean because they are sexually frustrated. I don’t think they are mean at all, the ones I’ve encountered are only kind, loving and eager to help you. They know they must have a life of celibacy before they become priests. They’re ok with it.

In the context of the discussion in this thread to follow the pope means you are not following the Lord Jesus, who picked a married man (Peter) to be a disciple.

What has this question got to do with the topic of this thread?

Again off topic but are you saying that the Lord Jesus can only make His presence known inside buildings??

If priests seem mean or frustrated it’s most likely its because of being over worked. They are truly a lot like parents to their flock. If you are a parent of more than one child you have an idea of what I mean. And if you are out numbered by offspring then you most certainly get it.

Priests get bombarded with so many frankly dumb things. Peole shoot themselves in the foot all the time. They tend to ignore good advise. They even get hit left and right by anit-Catholics, especially the kind that fall away from the Catholic Church. They’re reputation is on the line because many of us are or were guilty of detraction against them in one way or another.

They have a rough life and with the decline in numbers seeking a vocation to the priesthood it’s a wonder the office is maintaining numbers. The Holy Spirit is working in the Church. That’s why I laugh when priests or dissenter say the Church is in decline and on the verge of colapse. God will not allow it. But he might prod change whe low numbers for years to come until one of two things happens. First, increase in vocations to the celibate priesthood without allowing married men. Or second, the church lifts the ban on married men seeking the priesthood. Women priest will neve happen without a break/schism. Just remember that a requirement of unmarried men is a discipline not dogma or doctrine. I’m leaving that up to God, not my own desires. Also remember that once a married man becomes a priest, he is no longer allowed to marry again. That will most likely never change.

None of what you claim can be found in the New Testament. Try again.
The only question is whether or not Mary of Magdala was married to Jesus, or merely his disciple. Given the description of the marriage of Jesus, it is probable that she was both his wife and disciple.

you are fortunate… there are few things worse than an un-caring, grouchy, impatient, seemingly very angry priest… :hypno: :ouch:

given the New Testament (not to mention the Church), it is impossible that He was married.

No, the only question is which fiction are you interpreting as it is not consistent with the tradition, books of the church. Again, which books are you referencing,…or are you a former Nestorian and their beliefs?

This might be a good argument for the need of Sacred Tradition and not just the Bible.

What has this question got to do with the topic of this thread?
the answer followed, but if you must hear it again,… the point was that the pope is continuouly in the Presence of Christ… therefore, (and because of other reasons), we can trust his leadership…
It’s hard to understand why a follower of the Lord Jesus should follow a man who doesn’t follow the Lord Jesus.
why do you say he doesn’t follow Chirst?
Again off topic but are you saying that the Lord Jesus can only make His presence known inside buildings??
that’s the way He chose to do things… Frankly, He would prefer being in a Church that is only used for holy purposes (the Mass, etc.)… than out in the world, where He is crucified all over again…

All true Christians are in Christ;

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, Rom 8:1
why do you say he doesn’t follow Chirst? that’s the way He chose to do things…
The Lord Jesus picked a married man (Peter) to be disciple, is the pope doing this re priests and why can’t the pope be married?

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:15
