Do you think that the average Catholic would care at all about the stuff we talk about in here?

Hello to all. I just register today and got interested on the different issues on this site. I want to respond on the question; “Do you think that the average Catholic would care at all about the stuff we talk about here?”

I think the question should be: Would we who have given the chance to know more about Catholicism through this forum be generous and care enough to let others know about the stuff we talk in here? If we could respond on this question positively, then those others would care enough too and this would be open to the world.

I am very lucky because my priest is very serious about the liturgy.

We also, even though we are a small parish, have Latin mass every Sunday.

I’m an average Catholic and I don’t always care what you talk about in here. Watching the liturgies with Pope Benedict I will be much more forgiving on my parish level. He offered Holy Communion to people in their hands. Because this is an approved norm or receiving. The music was a mixture of Latin and English maybe even Spanish. The general mood was way out of what I would expect for a solemn occasion, the liturgy waitng to start for people to stop cheering to the waving pontiff. All of this for mostly avereage Catholics the religious and the laity. So please explain to me who “We” are.

No, and I think a lot of them are much better off. They go to Mass, the receive our Lord in communion, and they are happy.

Many of the people here get so tied up in knots over trivial matters that they lose sight of what really matters. And instead of walking out of Mass happy – like those average Catholics – they walk out angry and upset.

Who is better off?

I think you may be right.

I do think they would like Catholic radio a lot better. Catholic Answers comes on for 2 hours every day with knowledgeable apologetics, minus all the arguing and problems that I see here.
I have turned on many friends of mine to Catholic radio, but not to this website because of some of the forums. I am embarrassed for them to see how Catholics conduct themselves on some of these forums.

I think many would be somewhat amused by what they read here. Over the last weeks, I have found some very juicy nuggets of good information.

But there is a lot of discussion about things that most of us wouldn’t be the least bit worried about.

As a result of some posts I read here, I looked very carefully through our fairly recent “Gather” hymnal this morning. Personally I see it as a blend of the earlier “Worship” hymnal and the “Glory and Praise” hymnal. I certainly didn’t see anything wrong with it.

It is actually kind of scary. As another poster stated, most people go to Mass, receive communion, and leave as happy people. It never occured to me to study the Mass I attend to look for things that are done wrong.

I suspect that very few people do.

Another great post was the commentary about certain types of music at Mass being “entertainment”. When you get right down to it, any kind of music at Mass could be construed as entertainment, if it truly rocks your spiritual self.

Excellent point! We are all doomed without the love of the Father, the imitation of Christ, our Savior, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Our conversions are a lifelong process. Some are further along than others, simply because were are infants in the faith. But, the loving God cares for each of us as much.

Mass is the celebration of Christ’s sacrifice, Him being made present to us. He is the only reason to go. Nitpicking the mass is akin to newlyweds despairing because someone sneezed during the wedding. We are human, and full of imperfections. We are called to concentrate on God, Who alone is perfect.

Saint Teresa of Avila advises us to keep our eyes focused on Christ, and we will arrive at where we need to be.
