Do you think that this Cathedral is ugly?

I was able to get it to come up on my work computer. I see nothing to object to. We can’t expect a modern church to look like those of yesteryear. Probably the least aesthetically satisfying modern churches are those built in the style that was fashionable in the decade or so before Vatican II. The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore would be a good example of what I mean.

I noticed that there were no pics of an organ or choir loft. I hope they have these features (and a “real” organ, not an electronic one).

You’re being too kind with that remark!
Can’t wait to demolish those abominations.

After the “new Cathedral smell” starts to wear off, the “modern” structures tend to look extremely dated. You can really tell which ones were made in the '60s and '70s.

Does anybody else think that Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral in Dodge City looks ugly?

What a disapointment. 20 years from now they will look back and think “how could we have been so stupid?”

That is so beautiful!:amen: Don’t heed people who say that “vertical” churches don’t look good!
You can see that from I-70 and your drive by and it is an awesome Church.

In answer to the OP’s question about the new Guadalupe Cathedral, after seeing the picture of the interior, I was thinking if they leveled the floor it’d make a great rollerskating rink. Otherwise, I think it a horrid design that emphasizes all the wrong things–sadly, typical of modern church design. 😦

The gathering space is one of those places where the community can at least stop and say hi before entering
OH! You mean the NARTHEX!
the main worship space…
Main worship space? Is that located somewhere in the Nave?

Or this

(and it’s not even a cathedral!)
My jaw dropped on that one. Why do people not appreciate churches like this anymore? How can something like that not lift your heart and mind to God?

You have a point, I just took a look at totem poles… Oh, I mean tabernacle. I was like “what the …”

Well one good thing is that they don’t have Risen Lord “crucifix”.

I saw a picture of a ‘crucifix’ on this forum once but for the life of me I can’t find it anymore…it was the most horrid think I’ve ever seen in my life. It was a ‘crystal’ triangle ‘thing’ that I think was supposed to be a cross with Jesus somehow popping out of its center. It looked like a cruise ship ice sculpture gone bad. I wish I could find it again - perhaps my memory of it is worse than it really is, but I remember looking at it and going !!!

On the matter of stained glass, it is not appropriate to every type of church. For example, as venerable and beautiful a church as the Co-Cathedral of the Assumption in Baltimore is in a neoclassical style and would be ruined by stained glass.
