All I ask is that they print or do overheads of the words and MUSIC!
During the Mass at our parish on Saturday night, the priest did chant for the "The Lord Be With You, And also with you, Lift up your hearts, etc.
It was pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Yuck. Ick. Ugly.
No one knew it, and those few who knew what to do sang like typical Catholics–in a virtual whisper with their heads bowed into their bellies. Contemplative, perhaps? Fine, but it would have been nice to join in instead of standing there like fools.
If it’s going to be done, then DO IT WELL!!! Please!
And that means using those “Protestant” overheads (OMG!!! :bigyikes: Overheads!!!) and KEEP using them because once the current batch of converts knows the responses, new converts will move on in and they won’t know anything either. So stop assuming that people know these things or that they can pick them up by listening to others–not likely!
Or at least pass around copies of the words and music because apparently, most of us don’t KNOW these responses.
Another thing that would be helpful is if chant will be used, get a cantor who can either read the responses off the sheet or overhead and LEAD the congregation in the responses, or get a cantor who knows the responses without music, and can lead the rest of us.
I felt sorry for the poor cantor Sat. night, who I know is a convert. He just stood there, like the rest of us converts.
Show us the words and music, and we converts will sing along. Show us nothing, you’ll get nothing.
Sorry to sound crabby. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s being left out of the family “Traditions” and feeling like a fool, although I guess that’s good for me. Jesus was made to feel like a fool by His tormentors.
