Do you use the Luminous mysteries, what's your opinion on them?

A tiny bit off topic, but of the five Luminous Mysteries - heck, of of all the Rosary mysteries - I have a hard time meditating on the third Luminous Mystery. It’s not that there isn’t enough scripture to go off of, it’s almost that they’re far too much! It covers basically the Lord’s entire ministry between His temptation in the wilderness and His coming to Jerusalem. I guess it’s a good problem to have - lots to meditate on - but it’s one of the reasons I don’t pray the Luminous Mysteries a lot. It’s not narrow enough a time frame that I can “picture” it. Anyone else have this problem? Or anyone have any favorite aspects of that mystery to meditate on?

personally I wouldn’t mind if even more mysteries were added. the better to contemplate the life of Jesus. if the luminous mysteries are optional, I don’t see a problem.

I love the Luminous Mysteries. When I felt called to come back to the Church I went out and bought a rosary book that had the new mysteries detailed in it because I wanted to do it ‘right.’ Praying all 20 mysteries twice gave me the strength to walk through the doors of the Church for the first time in a long time. I’ll be ever grateful to Our Lady and her servant, Pope St. John Paul II, for their guidance on my journey home.

the luminous mysteries are my favorite set of mysteries. i pray them in my regular rotation.

From a traditionalist point of view? :ehh:

I think everyone prays the rosary more or less the same way.
The entirety of the Mysteries take us through the life of Christ, while adding in particularly blessed moments in Our Lady’s life.
So yeah, the Luminous were the missing parts and a very welcome addition.
Love them, in fact, almost prefer them. My birthday is the Feast of the Annunciation, so I really gravitate toward the Joyful as well.
Agree. Though I was ‘off the grid’ for quite a while, I’ve always been partial to hail mary’s and by extension the rosary. The ‘old’ rosary always seemed to have a big hole in it basically 13 to 33 years. So I like the closure provided by the Luminous mysteries! I know its overkill, but a different set for every day of the week would be nice!

You know what I think was so cool? I used to sit with the bible, let’s say during Lent, and say one line of scripture, then hail Mary, another line of scripture, until I went around the rosary. I felt it really helped me love the scriptures more and meditate more deeply. So I actually did the Luminous Mysteries before they were announced to the world! Imagine my surprise!!

I already did what is on this page. Love. Them.

LOL

To the OP, this is what happens when someone answers a question sincerely.

To Clare, if your remarks in your posts are referring to my response to the question asked, what did I post that led you to write: “I simply find it amusing that people seem to believe that the addition of the remainder of the public ministry of Christ is somehow tainted or disloyal to Our Lady.”
Oh goodness.
Let’s just take a look at the various posts.
Someone thinks the rosary can be “traditionalist”. No, it’s for everyone.
Someone thinks a holy (and Sainted Pope) had no business “fixing” the rosary.
THOSE are the responses I’m speaking to.

I’m pretty sincere about it, yeah. I have a huge devotion to Our Lady through her rosary. I make them for people and give them away. I’ve made hundreds as Graduation gifts from the local Catholic high school.

If someone sincerely thinks that the rosary can be argued between "traditional " and “modern” …as if that’s applicable, I’d say that’s unfortunate. Wouldn’t you?

The use of the luminous mysteries is optional. That it seems to have been made mandatory doesn’t make it so.

If I misread the pope’s encyclical, you will no doubt set me straight. 🙂
Actually, the Rosary itself is optional and NOT mandatory!! Why anyone would refuse to meditate on any part of Our Lord’s life, including the part His Mother was there, is way beyond me. The fact that the Pope gave them to us is enough for me. If another Pope gave us more, I’d love that too. We could have a different decade for every day of the week!!! I truly doubt the Blessed Mother would object at all. God Bless. Memaw

I feel the same way! 🙂

Correction

A different set of Mysteries for each day of the week. Thanks God Bless, Memaw

Why?
You asked. People answered.
🤷
Its just seems like some people are getting a little riled up by the subject, and a little negative. I was simply curious about peoples opinion on the Luminous mysteries. I used the term **traditionalist point of view **to gauge how traditional Catholics feel about using them. Now we have posts talking about questioning and not questioning popes. Then again maybe I’m being too sensitive.

Well, you brought it up.
There are not different kids of Catholics. To present it that way is to invite differences.
No bueno.
I know many trads dislike the recent Popes. You do too, I reckon, that’s why you framed it that way.
No. The rosary is beautiful any way you pray it. Why would anyone FEEL DIFFERENTLY about prayers? It’s a beautiful devotion. Let’s just leave it at that and not polarize people further.

Memaw has it right.

Wrong on this assumption my friend and I take great offense at it. St. John Paul II is one of my heroes. Pope Benedict is a brilliant man who’s works have brought myself and others great enlightenment. I absolutely adore Pope Francis. Paul VI… Humanae Vitae, come on now that was astonishing foresight.

Did I say there are different kinds of Catholics. No. If this thread has provoked a bitter new vs old debate then my apologies to all. :angel1:

The Luminous mysteries have become very special to me, particularly the more times I pray the Rosary and the deeper I meditate on them. If I pray the Rosary more than once a day, I will always choose the Luminous mysteries.

On meditation I would highly recommend St Francis De Sales
Introduction to the Devout Life.
The first thing you is to invite God into your heart before you begin
Then as you travel through each mystery imagine you are present .
You are an eye witness to the Annunciation you are awed by the Messenger of God. You Accompany Mary on her journey to visit Elizibeth . You actually see the joy in her face as the enfant leaps in her womb as the unborn Jesus approaches. The Bible is not just words it’s describing actual events experienced by real people…
You are a real Pearson being invited to participate in Christs life by the Blessed Virgin.

Yes! I’m glad to hear that someone else is confused by the 3rd
luminous mystery. 😉
It seems too vague to me…I don’t know how to “picture” it.
But I do love the other luminous mysteries and the fact that they were given
to us by JPII… So, I made a substitution. 😛

Instead of the Proclamation of the Kingdom of God, I mediate on the raising
of Lazarus, which is my favorite miracle of the New Testament.
