Doctors Petition The Vatican to Ban Smoking

The Vatican is a soveign nation. These doctors have no standing to demand it impose laws that they would like to see. Its very arrogant of them. Maybe they mean well, but its none of their business. I hope they don’t intend to embarrass the Holy Father when he visits us. There are a lot of things that people do that can kill them. Roanoker
 
Doesn’t the pope have more pressing needs of the Church to tend to?
 
He said the government removed the cocaine from Coke, but with a world health care crisis won’t follow suit with tobacco products.

I think they have a point. This is a form of hypocracy. However, I prefer the solution of putting cocaine back in coke.

Seriously, I do not understand what compels some people to constantly want to control the behavior of others. While the dangers of second-hand smoke inside a confined space over time has an effect on others, this continued push to control smoking behavior by force of law is ridiculous.
 
No smoking in my house or car and I won’t visit any place that permits it.

I think the doctors have every right to petition the Pope, it is not arrogance on their part. They cannot force the Vatican to do anything they request, but if the petition is accompanied by sound reasoning about the ill effects of smoking - and I believe it is - then go ahead, doctors. Perhaps the Pope will take action.

I doubt that there are many smokers among the Vatican clergy anyway - I don’t know about visitors.It would not be a big problem to bann it, but look at the PR effect, of having a sovereign nation bann smoking.
 
I’ve heard that the Holy Father likes red pack Marlboros, but I have not been able to confirm that.
 
Thou shall not smoke but go ahead and drink. Jesus made wine and might have provided cigaregetes if people at the wedding wanted them. The Doctors should have the Pope make Ireland alcohol free.

Now we have the church saying contributing to global warming is a sin. How silly. Global warmer is the biggest hoax since the church excommunicated Galileo. By the way did the church apologize for that. The Church was wrong then and the doctors are wrong about smoking and the church is wrong about global warming. The church should get back to the business of saving souls and preaching the teachings of Christ.

Let’s talk about the teachings of Christ. In the Bible God says “Thou shalt not commit murder”. That includes among other things taking drugs. While there is debate about Global warming, there is none about the serious harmful effects about smoking. Smoking kills. Unless you are a Doctor being paid say that from the Tobacco lobby.

Smoking is another sign of the corruptness of our Government (Canada). We have all the legitimate health warnings on it, and politicians getting on their soap box to rail against it, but they would never enact legislation to that effect because of the $$$ it brings in.

I agree, the physicians have a perfect right to petition the Vatican about this, it’s not arrogance. They feel passionate about their mission of protecting people’s health. Nothing wrong about that. The worst that can happen is that the Vatican says “no”.

Better get with the Mormons and stop drinking caffeinated beverages then. And no alcohol, no tobacco, no visiting the doctor to get a prescription.

Jesus’ first miracle was to create wine from water. And not just any wine, but good wine, and not just a little, but one hundred eighty gallons of it. Would he have done such a thing if taking a psychoactive drug – alcohol – is sinful?

No, I think when God told Moses this, he did not have drugs in mind, as much as clubbing someone to death.

Perhaps Canada does not ban smoking in the nation because they desire to keep some vestiges of freedom.

It sounds awful when we hear of people “wanting to control others” and, if their sole motive is control & only control, that not good.

However, I once analyzed my own seeming “desire to control” others & realized that it really wasn’t that at all - It was, instead, empathy & a desire to help others…

I don’t have the desire for people to give up sin (etc) just so i can feel powerful or whatever, but because i care about their souls…

And that is what Christianity is supposed to be all about… (the second most important commandment).

things are not always waht they seem…
