I am a Theology/Education major with the dream of being a Theology teacher, eventually professor.
I have a major impediment- anytime the topic of religion/the faith/the church/morality come up in a social setting…I am completely sick and nauseous with nervousness. So much so that i mess up when I try to speak.
Does this mean this may not be a true calling?
This calling has persevered through many years and trials.I do not feel this way because my own heart wants to be a Theology teacher, but really it is becasue I think God wants me to be because I have a very good “sense of the faith.”
I am certainly a choleric temperment, but i am also EXTREMELY sensitive and hate to argue and am not comfortable to "be at odds " with anyone socially.
I LOVE to and have been told i am a talented writer.
Perhaps this is my calling.
Anyway, what questions should i ask myself when i see that much of my prospective job will cause me ALOT of anxiety?

A theology professor does not need to be a good apologist.

In a theology class you will be teaching theology not trying to win people over to the faith.

Theology class is not the place for that sort of thing.

Set up your classes in such a way that when the students ask questions, it will be on subjects that you are prepared to answer.

Practice saying, “That’s a good question. We’ll be covering that topic in a few weeks, and I’ll be able to give you an answer then. Next?” 🙂

you are probably used to teaching on topics on which you have prepared your lecture, and anticipated the questions that will arise. what flusters you is being asked to speak off the cuff w/o a chance to prepare. plenty of good teachers feel this way (another good reason for lesson plans and syllabus).

While I cannot address your questions as I am too unlearned in the areas you have raised…I will be keeping you in prayer, and I hope you will be able to resolve any issues. God bless you …regards…Barb:)
