Does anybody else feel that tough times are truly ahead?

Yes, thank you very much for this. Those who did not live before all these electronics and abortion, same sex marriage, pornography, punk rock, disrespect and the like do not realize how much the world has changed. Time and time again I hear the same sentence, “it is a different world.” and it is. Truly it is.

Kind of like the frog put in the cold water and the heat turned up is how we are. He doesn’t realize he is being cooked. Our society has become desensitized to what is going on.
Really?
Nothing good has happened to you?
And you doubt that anything good will happen to you?
Go buy yourself a bouquet of white tulips.
I meet sensitive, kind, intelligent people everyday, of both progressive and conservative values. So can you if you open your heart.

People have been saying this for a long time, but its different now for some reason. The USA is changing. We are headed somewhere bad. I think God is telling us that we’re going to require a different kind of Pope for what lies ahead in the world.
Well, then, be happy that the current Pope has decided to pass the torch!

I think we’re headed somewhere good.

I don’t think tough times are ahead. I just don’t believe that the world is going to Hell.

We have amazing resources available to us, things our grandfather’s couldn’t even dream of. It is a time of great change and great opportunity.

Y’all acting like a bunch of wet blankets. 😛

Testify, Brother!! I totally agree!

I agree. It is a different world, and having known what it used to be like makes what it is today all the more painful and hard to bear.

However, as a my late Franciscan spiritual director used to always, always tell me “There’s all the hope in the world!!”

👍

Yes and no.
Homelessness is more prevalent: Bad
A generous soul granted me some shelter: Good

I had $.17 for a month: Bad
I received foodstamps: Good

Had no food there for a while: Bad
Various kind people fed me: Good

Foodstamps do not cover ‘personal essentials.’ Bad, kinda
Cash Benefits are only for those with Children or those over 60 (at least where I am): Good
I do not fall into either category: Bad
Various people have helped me out here and there, without which, I wouldn’t be **here **here.

Thanks be to God, Holy is His Name.

Society has it major issues, that is for absolute sure.
My little corner has major issues, too. But I keep getting a helping hand every so often. This is a hopeful thing for society at large, I believe.
But I understand what you are saying. We just need to hope and pray differently and for more and different reasons

Blessings

I think you are misunderstanding. You better believe good things have happened to me and I know more will because of Jesus and his awesome church and I believe that there is good in everyone. I have met them, live with them and love them but that doesn’t take away the fact that every day babies are killed by abortion, teenage suicide rate is at very high levels, there is much rudeness and disrespect displayed, especially on the internet but other places as well and pornography is at an all time high and causing and increase of violence. There is secularism and moral relativity deceiving people.

As I said earlier in another post on this thread God has promised he would never leave us, he would protect and care for us and in if we seek we will find but that doesn’t mean we deceive ourselves and believe all is rosy.

All you have to do is look around and see all these lost souls. Go to CNN and read the comments after an article about Catholicism. Even the pope stated we were in a crisis, thus the need for the new evangelization.

It is the way it is that the Church will go through tough times, Jesus told us but He also promised He would never leave us and we must always be ready to give a reason for the hope in us. Spread the good news. We wouldn’t need good news to hear if there weren’t bad news also.

I believe that one will never see any beauty in the world if one keeps looking at sin and destruction. The Church should thrive on tough times, it gives people a chance to show charity, I have no idea what part of the bible indicates that Jesus requires people to show good reason for having hope.
Dwelling on negativity, sin and despair is really unhealthy and ungrateful for everything beautiful. I am not tempted to do so.
I don’t think any soul can be called lost until after one dies, until then, the soul can still be hopeful. There is evil in the world, sins against children, the elderly, the poor, but there are are also good people, lawyers who seek justice, nurses and doctors who want people to be healthy and many folks who are eager to lend a helping hand to those who are poor, from the food stamp worker to the employer who gives a fallen soul a break and a chance.
There are more good people in the world than evil.

I totally agree. I don’t recall saying there were more bad people than good people. I feel that more people do choose good but not everyone chooses the Lord. I am not saying we should focus on sin and destruction but we need to acknowledge it’s existence and then do what we can through the help of the Holy Spirit, to help, such as pray and work and you’re right the Church grows through persecution. I also, agree no soul is ever lost until they die. We just don’t happen to know when they will die and we must always be ready to help those who are wandering and running from the Lord. There are so many that are. I know very many good people that serve in the community and help many people but they want nothing to do with Jesus.

You are so right. We are to see the good in the world. I in no way did I say to see only the evil but we certainly need to know it is there and then put our trust and our hope and our love in Jesus because it is sinful to not have our hope in Jesus.

But sanctify the Lord Christ in your hearts, being ready always to satisfy every one that asketh you a reason of that hope which is in you. 1 Peter 3:15

Jesus said, “I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” John 16:33

We have such a great God that gives us so much good, we must always be thankful and pass it on to those who don’t know him.

I love your last sentence, so thank God for bad news, I guess, kinda of like the way we bite on a sore tooth because it feels so good when we stop?
I hope that nothing bad happens today to you or to me, and that your day is filled with joy.
I think I see your point to an extent, without conflict no novel worth be worth reading and no life would be worth living.

Tough times are always ahead, the test is whether we can cope with them

Pray the Divine Chaplet daily people. It matters that we pray for those that need our help to ask God for forgiveness. This what the future is for. Prayer and doing. Helping others.

If the human race doesnt change then i guess it will be changed!

It’s almost scary what society has turned into. I sometimes get the feeling that by the time I’m in my 30’s (I’m 15 now) that our society will be in ruins. Before I get called a paranoid loon here, ( I get that a lot  ) abortions are still on the rise, over half of the marriages in the U.S. end in divorce and the list goes on and on and on. If we think that Pope Benedict XVI had it tough, just wait, the next pope is going to have a heck of a time leading the Church. But, as I said, the Church has seen 2000 years of unending hardship, but we are still going strong!

That’s GREAT, Schatsl that you reconize the warfare our soul battles at age 15. Someone like you can make a difference for the good in the world. Always put God 1st and do everything for the honor and glory to God! God bless!

God bless you, Schatzl. Stay close to Our Lady and don’t let the world grab hold of you.
