Does anyone hate being a woman?

Periods, disrespect, pain of pregnancy, oh I could go on.
Besides being “allowed” to play around with makeup to hide the tragic mess (face), being a woman sucks! Or a girl, I’m 18, I don’t know.

Quite of a rant, I know. But I didn’t ask to be a woman!! Why can’t I at least be a pretty woman, or a talented one? Does anyone else just wonder why God put them on Earth for?
Not all women wear makeup. If you don’t want to, don’t.
It really doesn’t matter if God thinks I’m beautiful, to be honest. I mean, he is not going to bully me for my looks, alienate me, reject me, etc. Humans do! Objectively speaking, I’m not attractive at all. Unless some guys like the “drugged up animal that has just been punched repeatedly” look 🤷
All that matters is that God thinks you are beautiful. If you remember that, it doesn’t matter what other people think. But you have to believe that you are beautifully made for other people to see it. It doesn’t sound like you believe in your own worth. Your own description of yourself is not very nice.
I’m not saying that being a woman is completely horrible. But I hate all the limitations or the expectations. I hate how if my shorts are a little too short, I am trying to get attention, or causing people to sin. And then when I try to cover up, I’m “not doing it right”, or that I look even more ugly (I’m really short, it’s not easy to cover up without looking like I’m a 9 year old). I hate being expected to do the housework, I hate being expected to act super feminine, I hate seeing other women objectified and abused, there are so many things. A good looking man definitely have an easier life!

And at this point, I don’t do anything about cramps anymore. I take it as my punishment. :o
Who is placing all of these expectations on you? You have to learn to think for and be your own kind of woman. If you are not, or don’t want to act “super feminine” then don’t do that either. There is a lot of range in-between super feminine and not at all feminine. You can choose where you want to be.
It must suck to constantly battle with lust, trust me I know, but it does suck being the ones that are objectified too you know 😦 especially when there are disgusting men that choose to act on their desires
Not all men are disgusting, by the way. Not all men objectify women.
I’ve tried dabbling in different areas, and trust me I suck 😃 i thought I was good in writing fiction and essays, but it turned out that the people around me just sucked, so it looked like I was good at it. I was simply average. I’m only book smart! All of my friends are studying cool stuff while I’m just here studying psychology (well about to in a few weeks), because that’s one of the few courses that doesn’t require any talent :banghead:
I can’t even make eye contact with people without wanting to jump off a cliff (my eyes are just…wrong. I was born with some sort of condition). I’m the epitome of pathetic, it’s actually quite funny
Hmm. I will tell my daughter that is working toward her doctorate in psychology that what she is doing doesn’t require any talent.

Lea, you are 18 years old. I know you don’t think so, but that is young. You are not expected to know what you are good at, or what you want to do with your life yet. It seems to me that you are in some ways worrying too far ahead. You hardly need to be worrying about the pain of childbirth at this point.

Your worth in this world does not rely on your looks, or whether you are a woman or a man. Your worth comes from being the best person that you can be for God, not for anyone else. Become the **person ** He wants you to be, not the person the world wants or expects you to be. You do not have to live up to their expectations or their stereotypes of what you should be. Forget for a while that you are a woman, and just gain strength as a person. Learn to accept yourself the way you are. Look in the mirror and see the face of the person that God loves.

It may be worthwhile for you to seek some counseling for self acceptance.
May God bless you and guide you to His will for you.

What big contributions have women made to history?
Oh, I don’t know. Off the top of my head there’s Mary. Whose yes was the greatest moment in the history of the world!
Eve is blamed for the fall of man.
Mary’s obedience reversed Eve’s disobedience. The greatest creature that God ever created happens to be a…*Woman!!! *

Peace, Mark

I also take issue with the assumption that women have it harder than men.

Don’t men have standards they’re expected to live up to? Don’t they have physical inconveniences tied to their male-ness? Don’t men suffer when they’re considered too sensitive, too short, not successful enough, can’t grow hair where they want it or lose it from places they do?

What is this ‘who has it worse’ contest, anyway?

The problem is the arbitrary standards of society. Standards of beauty, worth, and success that are fleeting and changing do not have ultimate value, and we shouldn’t wear ourselves out chasing them.

What you choose to do regarding your own appearance should be a compromise between who you are, and who you want to be. It’s a statement of where you are at now, helping move you where you want to go. Don’t lie on the outside, but also dress for success.

If you want to be perceived as tidy, and train yourself to BE tidy, then dress and prepare yourself in a tidy manner. Do not merely let your outside reflect a poor opinion of yourself, nor should you create a facade of glamour to become a person you are not. It’s a balance, but you can find it.

Just be the most truly righteous and virtuous version of whoever you are, and the rest will sort itself out.

Everyone has things they want to change about themselves. You have to accept yourself for who you are. Hating something you can’t change about yourself is counter-productive. You have low self esteem, and fixing that should be your highest priority. Self confidence will do you wonders, and it will open more doors than you can think of.

I do want to wear makeup. It’s my act of charity to the world 😉

But why do we think that God thinks we are beautiful? I honestly believe that he does not care about how we look, he only cares if we do bad things or good things. I feel like looks are not important at all to him. I know this should mean that we should believe that too, and I agree, but come on, in this world, physical beauty is important. If you’re ugly, you’ll have a difficult time dating, for example. I remember being left out in kindergarten because of the way I look, and it’s not like children are evil!

That’s the thing, we cannot really choose who we want to be. Guys have to be a certain way, girls have to be a certain way. Even in the Church to some extent. It’s not easy to be who I am, especially when I don’t even know myself!

And of course, not all men, I didn’t say that they are all bad. But in this day and age, it’s a lot harder to find good men. Most of them are taken. Or are gay 🤷

It’s not easy to be who I am, especially when I don’t even know myself!
Precisely. Get and education, live a bit, meet some people, and start developing yourself.
You are far to young to be having some of these self-loathing feelings.

You posts are gull of prejudices, yet you get upset that people judge you. 🤷
Can’t have it both ways. You are the only responsible fro how your life turns out.

Lea101, this may or may not be helpful, but…

Even being ‘pretty’ (which on some days I don’t agree with), I still don’t have any friends.

I have ONE friend. Two cousins who hang with me every so often. And two online/phone-only chat friends I’ve never met in person.

I’ve never been on a date. Why? Because once they get past what they think is ‘pretty’… they don’t like ME.

It doesn’t help to initially attract them. They only want my body, not ME. I’ve honestly had it with the whole dating thing. 25, and I’ve never really been in love. Never held hands. Never had anything but ‘single’ as a status.

It’s not all strawberries and cream for any of us. I’ve got a logical but cluttered mind, little to no motivation, zero ambition, a short (but feminine-?) hair cut, a curvy figure, 4 piercings in each ear, a penchant for climbing trees, zero boyfriends, one real friend, a part-time job, and I still live at home. I mostly only wear makeup on my eyes. I’m clearly a girl. Do I act too much like a boy? Do people think I’m twisting gender roles by my job and behavior? Do they think my short blue hair is a feminist statement when it’s not?

I got asked flat out by a co-worker if I preferred girls. How does one answer that?

How many men want a woman who thinks like a man? Do they want me to sob? Cry on their shoulders? Do they appreciate that I don’t? My father cursed me out for crying and commanded me to stop, my entire childhood. I HATE myself when I cry. I cut my palms with my own fingernails to stop the urge. I’m only allowed to cry alone in the dark.

I don’t care about gossip or fashion or pop news or Hollywood or even most movies that come out, and I didn’t go to school so I don’t know anyone, and my cousins didn’t even like me because I didn’t talk about who did what at school, but wanted to know things like why lightning is blue and not orange like fire. Or talk about why humans are afraid of the dark.

How about wondering why no one invites you anywhere, and come reluctantly when you invite them, and then asking flat out what’s wrong, do they even like you? And then finally they quit lying and say no, we don’t like you. And then move away from your only friend, convinced you’ll never see her again until you’re both 18, because your father as much as told you the estrangement between the families was ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT.

Then sink deeper and deeper into your own misery and despair, because you lost the only friend you ever had and grow convinced you’ll never find another, and you can’t even make friends with the weird homeschooled Goth girl in your confirmation class at church.

Fight with your father until both your voices break and you dream vividly of driving a knife into his guts just. To. Make. Him. STOP. :banghead:

And then somehow make it back to a sense of ‘normalcy’.

This is not me asking for sympathy, Lea. This is the honest, soul-rending truth I’m hiding behind my ‘pretty’ blue eyes. Others have other things they hide. Don’t ever think your secrets are the worst just because they’re the only ones you know. :nope:

I do want to wear makeup. It’s my act of charity to the world 😉

But why do we think that God thinks we are beautiful? I honestly believe that he does not care about how we look,You are right. But that is not what I meant by beautiful. Beautiful inside. he only cares if we do bad things or good things. No, that makes it sound like all he is doing is keeping score. He cares about so much more than just whether we are good or bad. That kind of thinking is very immature. You must know that He cares about you because He Loves you. He wants you to Love Him too. I feel like looks are not important at all to him.
I agree with you there as well. I know this should mean that we should believe that too, and I agree, but come on, in this world, physical beauty is important. Well then Lea, no, you don’t agree. You are influenced by what society/culture/media says is beautiful. You are buying it! If you’re ugly, you’ll have a difficult time dating, for example. People look different. People have their own preferences. But that doesn’t mean that we aren’t someone’s preference. Some people really do care more about personality. Those people do exist despite what the media tells you. I remember being left out in kindergarten because of the way I look, and it’s not like children are evil! Children are not evil, but they can be insecure, social climbing, peer pressured, and under the influence of others. I think that there are so many people that share your experience that have just kept it to themself.

That’s the thing, we cannot really choose who we want to be. That is not exactly true. Certain things are a given, but there is lots of room for your own choices too. Guys have to be a certain way, No.girls have to be a certain way. No. Even in the Church to some extent. Perhaps you could expand upon that. It’s not easy to be who I am, especially when I don’t even know myself! And that may be because you are only 18!🙂

And of course, not all men, I didn’t say that they are all bad. But in this day and age, it’s a lot harder to find good men. I hate to break this to you, but it’s no different now than it has ever been. :pMost of them are taken. Lea… Your age is showing. You are 18. They are not all taken, nor are they gay. You sound like you are just repeating a lot of cliched attitudes. Think for yourself. Or are gay 🤷
This is the time in your life where you make mistakes, get your heart broken and find out who you are and what you want to do with your life. It’s not going to come together overnight.

Ask God for His guidance and to have Him reveal His will for you. Be patient. He will reveal it in His time, not in your hurry up and tell me 18 year old way of thinking. 🙂

Nobody forces you to become the maid of a man . You can focus only on your own growth - which can extend to almost any sort of knowledge. You CAN ,but you’re stuck in this depressing position in which you seem to believe that all women are worthless creatures.
My personal worth will never ever be affected by what some old dumb man has to say about my physique. Keep that in your mind. They’re most likely 100x uglier than most women. Haha! If they judge people, they better be prepared for some heavy judgment too.

You know…Eve kinda gave every single one of us knowledge. And as you probably know, knowledge, in its essence, isn’t only of the white/pure/innocent. This opened a lot of possibilities in our existence. I think it’s much more satisfying to overcome primitive instincts and prejudiced reactions than to be born absolutely perfect from every point of view. Well…I better shut up on this topic before I get flamed to death 😛

I think logically. And I control my emotions. Am I not female? You do so too. However, repressing emotions is extremely bad and crying or doing something to get rid of the negativity/stress is a very good mechanism. You’re very mistaken if you think men don’t cry. I’ve seen many men/boys cry in my short life.

As for women contributing to the development of society… read more about this before saying such foolish thing. Men kept society from progressing with few exceptions. Do you think starting wars and famine is good? Yes, they can dominate us physically, but that doesn’t say anything about who’s superior or not . It rather shows their inability to control themselves. It’s much to talk about the subject… + that women were literally NOT let to contribute to society.

Ever heard of her?

I hope that you understand what I’m trying to say in this post and I also hope that nobody’s offended. This is only a honest representation of human history…
Not offended. I understand what you are trying to say.

Is that how God regards his daughters? Why prefer the opinions of humankind or even your own opinions over the will of God? Just practically speaking, how likely is that to work out well? Let God take care of deciding who will merit God’s recognition and who will not. The accolades of humankind are worthless. What counts is virtue, and whether your state in life puts you in a position to come to know, love, and serve God. Where we are poor, God makes up the difference; we need have no fear.

I know this much: Of all the women on the earth, those of us who have a computer to use for complaining are one of the ones who have it easy.
You are right. Stop complaining and change, CRATUS.

I recently found out I have what is considered a ‘male’ personality, (INTP) I’m not nearly as emotional or ‘compassionate’ as people expect females to be, people find me rude and arrogant and cold, even when I’m really not. I don’t fit a lot of female stereotypes.

But I would never, ever reject my feminity. I learned how to line my eyes. I learned how to cut my hair. I learned what colors and styles looked GOOD on me, not just what I liked the looks of in the store. I’m definitely happy being a girl. You just have to accept what is, and work around it.

Your period should not be miserable. The healthier you are, the easier it is. Major discomfort is a sign that something is off. Do not hide behind pain killers. I only suffer discomfort on day one, and even that is greatly, greatly ameliorated by red raspberry leaf, magnesium, B-vitamins, and the like. I also take progesterone when I remember. Since it’s a hormonal precursor, your body can make what it needs out of it. Also track your cycle. I use the Clue app on my iPod. It helps to know when it’s coming, and will also let you know if it varies wildly.
I’m an INFJ, I don’t know if it’s more of a male personality or not? I only like the parts of femininity that will help me look better (makeup, fashion, although I am more into pants and casual wear). Other than that, I feel like is is easier to go through life as a male.

I don’t like periods at all! I have to lie down in an uncomfortable manner, everything annoys me, cramps, even if it is a dull pain, make me want to physically hurt someone. Why do we have to go through this 😦

Lea,
Code:
I just wanted to tell you, periods don't have to be painful at all. Many women have found not to have problems with their period anymore once they changed their diet and got some exercise. I said this before, but I can't stress enough to look into things you can change in your life that can make your period very tolerable. I used to suffer greatly when I was younger with it, but changing my diet and adding a bit of exercise helped a lot. Cutting out all caffeine and sugar- especially the last half of your cycle really helps. Soak in some epsom salts in your warm bath water on bad days. Take supplements.
I have heard it said that women just accept that a period has to be bad, but truthfully, once you start really taking care of your body, it can be fairly easy time.

Sadly I’ve learned too being very stressed can make for a bad period. There is not much we can do about stress other than to find ways to relax- which you should do. Take care of your body! You only have one!

You’ve mentioned the fact that you think you’re physically unattractive and you kind of obsess over it. Why is it so important? Do you really have nothing else to think about? I’m not saying it in a mean way , it’s a genuine question. You’re going to study psychology - do you have any idea how much you can discover about the human mind this way? It’s a very fascinating topic. Instead of thinking about your defects , why don’t you study your own way of behaving and reacting to different things? Why don’t you discover the core of the problem? There’s sooo much information out there. You say you don’t have any talents - they aren’t needed to raise yourself intellectually. If you’re the best in your class I’m positive that you ARE intelligent and capable.
Have you read Jose Ortega y Gasset 's studies of love ? I’ve just started reading it and I think it’d help you a lot.

It’s not good for yourself to see the world in such colorless way - I do this too and I’ve observed that I now have a tendency towards nihilism. From my point of view it’s just another step towards greater understanding of the surrounding world , but it may not bring you any good. Just for the record, there’s not a big age difference between us.
My looks are not something I could ignore. People ask me what’s wrong with my face all the time. It’s gotten to a point where I would literally run away if anyone wanted to take a group photo. My social media accounts-there are zero pictures of myself. It’s that bad! I had an opportunity when I was 4 years old to have surgery, but my father refused, he actually wanted me to be as ugly as possible? (no joke, he would purposely make me have horrible haircuts when I was younger, I have NO idea why. As if I would have a boyfriend at 8 years old at a Catholic girls’ school ) He also told me that he didn’t want me to think surgeries are okay. My mother would tell me to pray that my eyes will look normal every Sunday before communion. (I don’t blame, her, she was just trying to make me pray in general). I’ve had friends and teachers asking me “What’s wrong with your eyes” in front of others, I’ve read countless of posts where guys would always talk about how a girl’s eyes are the first thing they notice and I’m just like :imsorry:

So yeah, that was kind of my answer to your genuine question 🙂 It is just something I am constantly aware of, it’s a deformity, not just a feature I am not happy with!

I chose to study psychology because I felt drawn to being a psychologist, hopefully specialising in eating disorders or depression? I probably can’t because of money issues, but as of now, I am just doing a diploma in it, before I get a degree hopefully and then a Masters. And yes, I am keen on learning stuff related to the human mind or social issues and I try to get great grades but that’s just me trying to overcompensate because I have nothing else to offer? I’m not naturally smart, it takes me a whole lot of effort and tears and prayer to do well in a test 😃

I don’t think my secrets are the worst or that being pretty solves everything. What I meant to say that being pretty would solve most of my problems now, like how maybe being smarter/richer/kinder/ etc would solve someone’s problems!

And I’m sorry you had to go through that, you are loved by us ❤️

I understand now. Yes, people can be and are extremely nasty - but don’t make it your #1 purpose to attract a man or look fine in front of somebody. I understand it’s very stressful for you because people are generally incredibly ignorant and insensitive to the world around them. They simply do it out of idiocy . Nothing more, nothing less. I have a physical defect too , but it’s not related to my general appearance because it’s not obvious. Sometimes I worry if a future boyfriend/husband/whatever will judge me for it or express dislike and then it clicks: why the hell should I give a flying cr-p? Maybe it’s my impulsive personality , but I develop feelings of hatred towards dumb people very fast and maybe that’s what shields me from their meanness ( people like to be mean in just any circumstance , no matter if you’re pretty or not). Some may call it excessive arrogance, but I just rejoice in it.
So…why don’t you make a list of good and bad traits of yourself? I’m sure you’ll find a lot of positivity that can be used for greater good. I realise this may sound kind of childish, but when you introspect you can find many things about yourself unknown up until that point. And not only introspection, but you can find good things about your body too. Eyes are not everything and boys who judge you for that are very immature and don’t deserve attention (that’s what they’re seeking anyway).
Ignore and reject superficiality, that’s what most people are made out of. You’ll begin to see that if you deny mean and close-minded people your mental state will become better.

I’m worried about my future too, although I’ve just started high school. I’m not from the USA so I can’t give you any advice as everything is different here, but I’m positive that if we give our best we can succeed. I like psychology too, but I don’t want to make a living out of it. You can’t really know what the future holds for you, but you can try to influence it and hope to follow a good path. I see that you’re in Singapore now, sadly I have no experience there either 😛 .

By the way, the simple fact that you’ve been thinking about those problems that almost never cross other women’s heads expresses your intelligence. Don’t be so hard on yourself because you have potential. You’ve been just kept in the dark.

I really hope you get to read the book that I suggested to you. It’s good. 😃

Periods, disrespect, pain of pregnancy, oh I could go on.

Lea, I noticed your location is in Singapore. I have been there and I noticed Singapore has a majority Chinese population. Maybe you are reacting to the misogynistic Chinese culture which sees men as superior to women? I too have grown up in a misogynistic culture, having a cultural background from South Asia.
As for beauty,…
Even if you were a raving beauty, realize that in time, like a faithless friend, beauty will also abandon you. You may have to find the strength within yourself to defy all that negativity. Ask Jesus and the saints for help. Easier said than done but worth the struggle. Everyone has difficulties in life, both men and women.

Oh no, no lists for me. Our class did that and I could easily write all the negative traits and ended up writing one positive. And that positive trait wasn’t thaat special. It was a disaster for me and many girls in my class. Our poor teacher told us to throw the list away and never bring it up again 😃

& I don’t see them as mean or close-minded. I mean, they don’t taunt, they are just aware that I look different, which hurts me because I would like to think I am not. I mean it is common sense to keep your mouth shut and not point out anything, but oh well.

And all the best xx, school is a pain in the butt. Singapore is the worst place to be if you are not into STEM subjects. I am pretty sure I picked the worst career path ever :banghead:

Even if you were a raving beauty, realize that in time, like a faithless friend, beauty will also abandon you. You may have to find the strength within yourself to defy all that negativity. Ask Jesus and the saints for help. Easier said than done but worth the struggle. Everyone has difficulties in life, both men and women.
Yup, a lot of Chinese people here. I’m of Indian ethnicity (minority). I don’t think I am reacting specifically to the Chinese culture? Anyway, the younger generations are westernised and are becoming more liberal. All cultures that I am aware of are misogynistic to some extent. That’s the thing that bothers me the most! And the most frustrating part is the people of those cultures try to defend and sugar coat it. (Even Catholics are guilty of this when it comes to defending the faith). I’d rather them just admit that they think we suck!

And as for beauty, I mean I rather have temporary beauty than no beauty at all, it’s better than nothing, right?

I know where you are coming from and I am much older than you are. Believe me, it gets easier as you get older. Strive for spiritual growth through prayer. Once you immerse yourself in the spiritual you will see the world more clearly with all its good and bad and your attitude towards what is important will change. I pray that you in time find peace as it seems you seem to be in turmoil. Maybe you are undergoing growing pains?
