Does anyone here believe the earth is 5000 years old?

Could someone post the verses that mention the age of the earth. The 6K figure is the result of erroneous assumptions. Regardless, the essential truth is that all was created by God, who is intimately involved with His creation.

Um, you missed 6 days for creation. It only took 6 days because the Hebrew used the word for day with “evening and morning” not just day. This is Literal. not thousands of years per day.

The earth is round. Where in the Bible does it say flat? No one truly believed it was flat, by the way. The ancient Greeks found out it was round a long long time ago.

By the way, are you Christian? or do you believe we evolved from apes?
  1. 6 days for creation is negligible compared to 1000s of years.
  2. Psalm 90:4, “A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.” 1000 years to us is like a day to God. Therefore I argue that if Genesis 1 really is literal, creation took 6000 years (from our perspective)
  3. It mentions the earth being motionless, for one…
  4. People actually did think the earth was flat before the Greeks proved otherwise.
  5.:mad::mad: YES I AM CHRISTIAN, AND CATHOLIC TOO. And I am not sorry for the all-caps. It is ENTIRELY possible to believe we evolved from apes and be Christian. The Catholic Church, at least, makes no statement on evolution v YEC. It only teaches that regardless of how our physical forms were created, the human soul was created directly by God.

First, there is no proof of this.

Second, this is a philosophy thread, not an evolution thread.
I have responded to this in a PM to avoid derailing the thread. In short, though, I only mentioned evolution as a side comment and later mentioned it in that post after being attacked for supporting it.

Anyone that thinks the Earth is less than 10,000 years old has rocks in there Head !
It take 2.5 million years for the light to beam here from our nearest Galaxy.
and it’s just next door… And yes the last Ice age was 10,000 years ago,and there were
ice ages before that one, and yes there were other humanoids , Neanderthals,
they were more than likely wiped out by modern day humans …
and yes Global warming has been around since the last ice age…
that’s how we had land bridges for human expansion…
And yes I don’t know everything, I just know Jesus is my Saviour and I’l leave
it all to him…

You believe we evolve from apes? Show me a single transitional form.

Just so you know, I have reported your post accusing me of not being Christian. I do not wish to continue this discussion further because you are resorting to ad hominem attacks and offending me. I will, however, leave you with the parting comment that saying humans evolved from apes is actually incorrect. More accurate would be to say humans and apes have a common ancestor. It would be akin to how French and Spanish both developed out of Latin. Claiming, in this analogy, that we think Spanish evolved from French is a strawman.

And if you want transitional forms, look up australopithecus, homo habilis, and homo erectus

I admit I know nothing of what the Church states on the matter.

My opinion, based on the probable age of the human race and Biblical geneology, is that Adam and Eve were likely the first humans to have an awareness of the God we worship today.
True Adam and Eve were the first humans to have an awareness of God, that’s because they were the first humans Created by God.

True Adam and Eve were the first humans to have an awareness of God, that’s because they were the first humans Created by God.
The Church does not teach this. The long and short of it is that the Church only teaches that souls did not evolve, not humans.

I tried watching that show once… I was utterly confused by it. And this is coming from someone who likes scifi.
Code:
Well the show has had a long time following in the U.K ... And other countries,,
I’ve never been a great follower myself but did watch it a bit in the 60’s , but then in the 60’s the world was a different place, I myself was hooked on lost in space, there was that pesky Doctor smith,

God bless you Landon13.

I believe like Landon13, that the world is not billions of years old. I don’t believe so blindly, but rather I have I have seen some of the evidence for and against and see no reason to believe otherwise. I have even watched a single 6day creationist debate 3 professors in a formal 1-2hr long debate over it. There is a strong case for it.

If anyone would like to believe in a 6day creation, and hold that belief in good reason let me introduce you to a great site. This one, found here, is a pretty hefty resource. You can search any of the topics mentioned on this thread and find a reason. There are others less technical but I think this one is the best.

With Carbon 14 data I want to tell you a little story. An evolutionist was given a rock in a study and it was volcanic rock from an eruption in the last hundred years. The evolutionist showed with Carbon 14 dating that it was millions of years old. That is outrageous since it was formed right in front of our eyes. Look this up. It is not just one or two times that this has happened, it has happened innumerable times.
You are correct, but your creationist source is not telling you the whole story. First, it was not a Carbon date, but an K-Ar date. C-14 cannot go further back than 60,000 years at best.

If the rock was from an eruption in the last few hundred years, then scientists already knew how old it was. They didn’t need to date the rock, they could look up the date in a history book. They weren’t testing the date of the rock, they were testing the dating method. They took a sample of a known date and tested it to see if the dating method worked. In this case, they were testing on a piece of pillow lava, which erupted underwater. Being underwater it cooled very rapidly, so excess argon was not able to escape. The result of this test was “Do not use Argon dating on underwater pillow lavas”. See Dalrymple, G. B. & Moore, J. G. (1968) Argon-40: Excess in submarine pillow basalts from Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii. Science 161: 1132-1135.:

Abstract

Submarine pillow basalts from Kilauea Volcano contain excess radiogenic argon-40 and give anomalously high potassium-argon ages. Glassy rims of pillows show a systematic increase in radiogenic argon-40 with depth, and a pillow from a depth of 2590 meters shows a decrease in radiogenic argon40 inward from the pillow rim. The data indicate that the amount of excess radiogenic argon-40 is a direct function of both hydrostatic pressure and rate of cooling, and that many submarine basalts are not suitable for potassium-argon dating. (emphasis added)

This is an example of science measuring, rather than assuming, and actually checking that its methods work. In this case it doesn’t work and other scientists are warned not to use this dating method in such cases.

Your creationist source is bearing false witness in that it is lying by omission. Why do you believe a source that lies to you?

I should also be noted the Church is infallible/authoritative on matters pertaining to faith and morals; NOT science. The issues dealing with when such events happened, evolution, etc. are simply matters of personal opinion.

Take a geology course… that will cure you of young earth creationism.

And you see, this I can respect. When someone doesn’t believe so blindly. For me, however, there are too many poorly answered questions. Such as why would God make fossils? Everyone says either “To test our faith” or “The Great Flood,” neither of which sits well with me as an answer.
