Does anyone plan on seeing Dunkirk?

I read a good review about this movie today.

Mark Rylance is in the movie. He is good.

I don’t know very much about what happened at Dunkirk.
 
The moment you see “Christopher Nolan” attached to a film, you know it’s gonna be good. So the answer to your question is an outstanding YES!
 
I don’t go to movies very often anymore, but I am a history buff.
My Dad was a WWII vet so I am interested in many of the battles.
I have seen Battle of the Bulge and many other big war movies, but don’t remember seeing anything about Dunkirk.
 
It’s always intriguing to read or see a movie on the events of what occurred in historical battles. Hopefully, this movie will give insights to what took place there at Dunkirk. At the early stages of World War Two, the German army and their Panzer divisions entrapped the British army and their allies at this small seashore town in France. For some reason, Hitler did not allow the army and tanks to go in and annihilate them! God’s hand perhaps? It would not be the first time Hitler made an odd decision to refrain from taking the advantage of a bad situation for the other side! Some historians have written that perhaps he was purposely showing a sign of mercy to the British hierarchy as he was possibly hoping to make a non-aggression pact with the British government (as he went on to do with the Soviet Union, signing a 10 year non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union, but it was very short lived) so that he could focus on attacking the Soviet Union first! But, as we know, that did not happen and Germany was once again as in World War I fighting on two fronts , the west and the east. Had Dunkirk had a different ending, the war could have taken quite a daunting turn for the Allies…and possibly would have had the U. S. joining in much earlier than December 7, 1941!
 
I would love to, but like every other movie I wanted to see this year, I probably won’t make it. 🍿
 
I will certainly see this movie. The successful evacuation of the British Army from Dunkirk was one of the key events of WWII.

It’s become clearer and clearer the Top 3 movies of 2017 - on all the year-end best of’s and at the Oscars, will be ‘Baby Driver,’ ‘The Big Sick,’ and yes, ‘Dunkirk.’ I’m hoping this will be Oscar’s chance to make up for the inexcusable snub of ‘Interstellar.’

Not very many films worth going to the theater for imo but I will go for Dunkirk. As for Battle of the Bulge check out a film called Battleground made in 1949. Also the mini series Band of Brothers covers that really well…
 
Historical fact: Charles Lightoller, surviving Second Officer of the “Titanic,” participated in the Dunkirk evacuation with his boat “Sundowner.”

Dunkirk was the mass evacuation of troops after they were surrounded and trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk after Nazi Germany bypassed Frances’ Maginot Line through the Arden and took France in one foul swoop.

In his speech to the House of Commons on 4 June, Churchill reminded the country that “we must be very careful not to assign to this deliverance the attributes of a victory. Wars are not won by evacuations.”

IMO I think this was what set the outcome for the war, since this deeply humbled the Allies, because of such a crushing defeat it was, and at the same time it emboldened and made more proud Nazi Germany thus leading to the rise of the Allies and the Defeat of Nazi Germany.

I will watch it when I can do so in a venue that has a pause button. Prior to watching it, I will also review the printed matter that I have on the subject, and I will watch the relevant historical programs that I can access.

I do expect that the movie will be a very good experience.

I have never heard of Battleground. I know Band of brothers was very popular.

That does strike me as odd that Hitler did not take advantage of the situation.

I have heard a lot about those 2 movies too. Dunkirk will probably be the only one
I see.

Christopher Nolan + Han Zimmer + Tom Hardy… why is this even a question? I would watch it if it was just Christopher Nolan
