Is it that a sign of emotional weakness? In theory, if we were confident and fully trusted in God, nothing anyone said should trigger defensiveness in us.

Only the absolute perfect would not have a sensitive spot as you describe it.
We are human and not perfect.

Yes, it is a sign of a particular weakness, but that’s not bad.

God created us to be together and to work together and to bear one another’s burdens. That’s why He permits us to have blind spots and weaknesses: to give someone else the honor of serving.

Sure but one can train oneself to not react to it, and thereby gradually diffuse it until it goes away.

Yes, we can be vigilant, step back and witness what we feel, what our automatic responses are. Then we are not as caught up in them.

No one should see or know you’re weakness. It can be easily used against you. I feel embarrassed when someone says something and it clearly struck a nerve. I wish I didn’t care or react that way. It gives the other person power.

You’re correct. It goes against a belief I held that you must be self sufficient - more well aware of your blind spots and weaknesses. You know yourself more than anyone else, others (name removed by moderator)ut should be secondary or dismissed.
It is difficult to understand God loves us even when we’re not perfect.

yes, probably everyonbe does.

but maybe not such a bad thing. there are people who say and do pretty awful things, are we just supposed to pretend that it’s fine?

No. I don’t think we should condone poor behavior either.
