Reading a lot of the posts on this thread makes me wonder how many of you posters “complaining” about EWTN’s shows, production values, etc. would have “reviewed” that Jesus guy’s Sermon on the Mount. I assume it would go something like this:" No sound system. Lousy lighting system for those sitting with themselves on one side of Jesus and the sun on the other. No reclining chairs - in fact, no chairs at all. No refreshment counter. No rest rooms. Cheap production - nothing like Herod’s or Pilate’s proclamations which had proper staging, trumpets, etc."
To all of you: EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Rd, Irondale, Al. 35210-9948. Make a contribution. My guess is that probably every complainer on this thread has never donated one cent to the network. You truly should be ashamed of your posts. And let me let you in on a little secret - EWTN is a GIFT directly from God Himself. He sent it to us through Mother Angelica who will be canonized one day. If your parents never taught you manners and how to respond to a gift given to you - here’s a clue: it’s not in the fashion that a lot of you have posted here.
I do contribute. But I still think Mother should rest…God bless her. And yes, I’ve read her book…The Shrine is beautiful…

But I think everyone’s entitled to their opinion of the station and programs…it’s not a personal attack toward anyone there.

But I still think Mother should rest…God bless her
Exactly what is it that you want Mother Angelica to stop doing and to replace that action (which you should specify) with “rest”?

Mother is currently serving (and I use that word exactly in the sense that it was intended - as she is as she always was - God’s ultimate servant) exactly as Pope John Paul II served out the last couple years of his life: as our role model on how to deal with life and it’s adversities. Another gift directly from God to us. JPII did a great job at that. Mother is equalling his effort. He was awesome. She is awesome. I don’t sit in judgment of any of her actions or efforts nor do I feel empowered in any way to “suggest” that she conduct her life any different now than she always has - which is exactly as God and she have decided.

To all those critics of EWTN: Turn the channel. You got it for FREE. EWTN gets nothing from your cable company for it. Start your own since you are so critical of EWTN’s efforts. This cloistered penniless nun from Canton did. Or else send a respectful letter of suggestions to EWTN themselves instead of criticizing them on a blog.
Otherwise try spending some of your wasteful blog time on the seven corporal works of mercy (if you even know what they are).

wow…I made two posts and I’m critical…forgive me. My friend, you do not know my works of mercy, thank you, you do not even know me…this is simply a thread about opinions and you have taken it way too far in being critical of ME for saying something. I have not made such claims to you or to EWTN or to Mother…I don’t appreciate YOUR judgement of me. (the part I bolded)

A few thoughts from a Lutheran –

From my own perspective, I find EWTN to be a refreshing breath of air in a religious television world dominated by televangelists and their rather strange interpretations of Scripture. The “prosperity gospel” and the various manifestations of millenialism are far from my understanding of the relationship between God and his people.

Among the programs that I try to watch are Father Benedict Groeschel, Marcus Grodi, Father Mitch Pacwa, and some of the specials.

I will admit that I haven’t been led to move toward Rome but one can never know what the Holy Spirit has in store.

I just have to give a few facts here…

I have been here 30 months and have made 1097 posts, that is 36 posts a month. I am also a Prayer Warrior here, so I keep a running list of those in need of prayer and post to them that I am praying for them.

You have been here 10 months and have 193 posts, that is about 19 a month…

so I’m only over you 16 posts a month.

Just stating facts.

God bless.

One simple way to enjoy EWTN, for example, when Mass is on at your primetime, is to record the shows you enjoy. I got a DVR primarily because everything I like on EWTN is on at times I cannot watch, so I set the DVR to record them, and watch when I’m ready to pay attention. Fr Corapi, Fr Groschel, Journey Home. Another thing you can do is to download the primetime shows audio, either to a computer or an MP3 player. I download them (and CA Live) to my computer, put them on CD and play them in my car during my commute. You don’t need the video, the audio is very powerful!

Wow! Seems like they are overly dramatic actors! As for the mega-church, Adam and Eve on Hummers, HD projectors etc. why do they see that as necessary? That’s sad 😦 Thank God us Catholics have the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist (among many other things) to keep us satisfied. Oh the money we save!!!

Just a couple of personal comments. I don’t disagree with many of the low budget … comments, but it is through EWTN that I became a Catholic. Secondly, if you haven’t read the book about Mother Angelica, then you must. In fact, I think you should before you post anything. Finally, get off your wallet and send them some money. I do, monthly. Finally, pray for them. Where I live now I don’t get EWTN. I miss it.

There’s a new update on Mother Angelica on the EWTN site. Shots of her in her motorized chair…kind of nice, kind of funny and a little sad.

Television is just that, television, and EWTN is about like all TV (to me) there are things on there that I love and and other stuff that I don’t get very excited about, but on its worst day I think EWTN is still better than most of the other stuff on the tube.

…And yeah, I think it helps.

Thanks for your statistical analysis. Very meaningful. As the above post constitutes your 3rd one in response to mine I’ve obviously struck a nerve.
Anyway, how about getting back to my one question of you which you somehow have not found the wherewithall to answer in your three response posts: "Exactly what is it that you want Mother Angelica to stop doing and to replace that action (which you should specify) with “rest”? (re: your post #104) Thanks and God bless.

Is the word rest really that hard to figure out?

I can tell from previous posts that you love to pick and strike nerves of people here, and that’s okay…if that’s what you want to do.

Time will tell.

(DJgang’s post #104): “…But I still think Mother should rest…”.

(Hint: “rest” as opposed to what? What is it that she is doing that bothers you?)

Four DJ posts and counting…
