If God the Father has a soul, would His Son have a divine soul?

Since the Son of God is ‘the image of the invisible God’, and 'the refulgence of his glory, the very imprint of his being’

Which scripture are you using to show God the Father has a soul?

Jesus is the only person of the trinity who has a soul, and his soul is human, not divine.

God the Father is perfect, infinite and eternal Spirit. Spirit doesnt occupy space. He knows Himself perfectly, infinitely and eternally. Theres nothing about Himself which He doesnt know. Everything that the Father is, is in His Self-Knowledge. God the Fathers Self-Knowledge is God the Son, generated in eternity.
The Father is the first, or generating, Principle in the Godhead…the first Person.

God the Son is the one Who is also incarnate, and therefore, has a (created) human soul, as well as His Divine essence (the stuff of which something is composed).

Try to get hold of “Theology and Sanity” by Frank Sheed, published by Ignatius Press. It devotes more than 30 pages to The Blessed Trinity!!! There`s plenty to learn!

Isaiah 42:1 RSV (from the Hebrew word, ‘nephesh’)

Matt.12:18 RSV (from the Greek word, ( ‘pysuche’)

Jeremiah 5:9 Douay-Rheims (from the Hebrew word, ‘nephesh’)

Jeremiah 5:29 Douay-Rheims (from the Hebrew word, ‘nephesh’)

These are some of the scriptures which state that God has a soul

No…

(and Man is made in the image of God…does not make God have hair either 🙂 …let a alone a soul…for very precise things are meant by such language…) (Only God the Son became man (…neither the Father or the Holy Spirit did)(Only God the Son became man (…neither the Father or the Holy Spirit did)

Well then you’ll have to explain how God can be a composite of soul and something else.

God is soul and spirit, and we are made in the image and likeness of God, having both soul and spirit.

(a little note for clarity for readers who may be popping by …that such is not the Catholic Faith…such is the personal belief of Zarthan…he currently is not intending to be professing the Catholic Faith…)

Just a personal note of clarity for those who have read this. I was baptized a Catholic, confirmed a Catholic, left the church, came back to the church and was receiving the Eucharist on a regular or daily basis until I realized that I was holding to convictions that were not in accord with certainCatholic teaching.

Finally, if the Catholic church denies that God has a soul, then of course, I will believe the holy word of God over the teaching of the Catholic church.

Hence you are not currently intending to profess the Catholic Faith…I did not want readers to read “catholic” at the top right corner and think that you were…

(also saves a bit of time on the practical side…for posters who may think you are professing to be Catholic…)

I am in a state of limbo. I have enquired with my parish priest on some of these issues, and asked if it was wrong for me to receive the Eucharist. He did not respond. I do not know what to do. Only the catholic church has the holy Eucharist, I do not know what else to do.

I am in a state of limbo. I do not know what to do.
Continue to study the Churches teachings…work with good sources…

It is important to accept the Teachings of the Church …to accept the Church…(and it is for the very reason of Jesus Christ)

…to hand oneself over in the “obedience of Faith” as Paul puts it…

(but yes…until then do not receive…and then not until after Confession…)

God is soul and spirit, and we are made in the image and likeness of God, having both soul and spirit.
By the same token God must also have had a human body, so that cannot be the meaning of that verse. If God is soul and spirit, then which one is God - the soul or the spirit?

One comes to realize that the Catholic Church is the Church that Jesus founded…( it subsists…) one trusts the Church …for her authority comes from Him…and one hands oneself over as it were…in the Obedience of Faith…

(One puts the Churches understanding etc before ones own that one may come up with…)

(heck…we would not even know what makes up the Bible…not know what is the Written Word of God…without the Church…)

One makes the great YES!

Ones great YES to Christ involves alot of no’s …

but the YES is HIM and thus to true life…

And so what-- if something would be “naturally ones opinion”…“or if some thought to the contrary comes” or something “was what one held in the past”

Jesus said if we want to be his disciple we must renounce even ourselves…

Jesus’ call is a radical one…he even refers to “hating” things in comparison to following him…

“If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:26 RSV CE)

He means this in the semintic way of teaching…(not that he wants us to hate our parents…etc) …but it is to express the radical nature of discipleship. And it does make things clear. This discipleship would include putting our own thoughts and beliefs to the sword…rejecting them…because we have met HIM …we trust HIM…we trust HIS Church about which he says “he who hears you hears me”…we trust …and give ourselves…just like in marriage…but more radically.

The YES to him in the Catholic Church must be a YES to all the Church teaches…(in the various degrees…)

This YES is a choice…similar to Marriage…(in ones yes in marriage one says no to many things…and one must renounce various attractions…things that would draw one…)

…but this YES is greater.

Bookcat: It is not just one verse, it is many verses.

How would we know what love, joy, peace or any other of the fruit of the Spirit are unless these attitudes, virtues or emotions are from the very soul of our Heavenly Father through His Son? How many of us want to pour out love and joy and peace to our own children?

Would any of us understand ‘righteous anger’, such as a parent has toward a very disobedient child, if we did not receive such from the very soul of God?

Would any of us know what is to hate the evil that our children do, unless such hatred of evil came from the very soul of God? How many parents would want to shower their love and mercy on their children, but such love and mercy is oftetimes thwarted by the contiunal evil such children do?

So it is with God. We will never understand ourselves, nor God unless we understand that He has a soul.

God created our soul. He does not have to have a soul to create one…

If I were to create a mechanical clock

…I do would not have to have to go “tic- tock” myself…
