Does it matter which rosary we pray?

Hey guys, I was curious if anyone prayed a different rosary every day/frequently than the “traditional” rosary. Our Lady of Fatima instructed us to pray the rosary every day; does that include all the rosaries?

Hey sorry, I meant the Seven Sorrows, Divine Mercy, etc.

Traditionally the Rosary is prayed with certain Mysteries on certain days. Then when the Luminous mysteries were added, things got shuffled a bit. But there is no set in concrete rules. Years ago I asked a priest about this, and he said he prayed the Joyful if he had something to be joyful for or if something sad, then the sorrowful mysteries. And he is a Society of Mary - Marist priest. So whilst we can stick to the traditional days they’re said or we can change it if something in our lives that day influences our prayer.

they are all good. I stick to the chaplet of St.Joseph, but doing the Rosary, divine mercy, five wounds… etc or others is good. Just make sure you do one often…

Mary wants you to pray regularly. I don’t think she’s going to get too bothered if you are saying the Seven Sorrows chaplet rather than the Rosary, or if you decide to just pray the Liturgy of the Hours and not say any rosary or chaplet prayers.

Regarding the Divine Mercy, because it’s easier to pray than a rosary, there has been some concern among Church members that it is regarded as a “rosary lite” that might take the place of the more difficult rosary. I’m not really seeing that happen because many people I see at rosary groups either say both, or else they pray the rosary and leave when the DM is started. The DM is not a specifically Marian devotion, and has a different and specific purpose, so those seeking to pray Marian prayers will not see it as a rosary substitute.

I try to say the traditional Rosary as requested by Our Lady of Fatima. I’m also looking into the devotion to the Holy Wounds, which is also said using rosary beads.

My question is when we pray the Rosary can we direct it to Mary specific, like Our Lady of Fatima, or Our Lady of Sorrows, or Virgin most Powerful?

Yes but what you’re calling the traditional Rosary is the Dominican Rosary, essentially… the OP may have been asking if it’s ok to pray the Carmelite Rosary or Franciscan Rosary…

I often chose the mysteries that I feel best match the liturgical calendar. If it’s the feast of the Assumption, I’m praying the glorious mysteries regardless of the day of the week. If it’s Christmas, I’m pray the joyful mysteries no matter what. For all of Lent, I pray only the sorrowful mysteries (switching out the joyful when the Annunciation falls), etc.

Yes, I agree - those are lovely ways of choosing the Mysteries. I too used to only pray the Sorrowful Mysteries during Lent, but then forgot and went back just to the traditional rotation. Thank you for the reminder!

I would say stick with the Dominican Rosary if you’re following Fatima.

I love the Most Holy Rosary and I try to pray it every day, as I follow Fatima too.

Since I’m following Fatima, I’m thinking I should pray the other prayers taught to the seers by Our Lady and the angels.

As for the Mysteries: I always pray the Luminous, they were suggested to us by Saint JPII; and I pray the Sorrowful Mysteries if I’m overcoming difficulties and/or going through a rough time. Personal revelation.

  1. We need not have any devotion to any apparition. They are not binding on the faithful, nor are they part of the deposit of faith. Having said that…
  2. Any and all Rosaries are good.
  3. Which one(s) speak to you?

Like the Seven Sorrows and the Holy Wounds. Are these indulgenced?
