Does Jesus return in secret?

Looks to me like it matches up. The creed doesn’t mention clouds, but why should it?

I find that the Gospel lessons regarding the Jews (as opposed the Gentiles) recognizing Jesus to be very meaningful to these eschatological questions. Will we recognize Him by how conformist to traditions and practices His is or will it be more like His love, mercy, compassion and Good News that will speak into hearts with authority. It would have been a leap for faithful Jews to leave what they had known for thousands of years. I want to be prepared to recognize Him with my heart rather than my eyes.

We shouldn’t take that too literally. Jesus could have been using signs just like what He did in the Parables. But the best way is to repent, follow all His commandments, and be ready!

The members have given good suggestions. Don’t worry, I used to be exposed to similar questions.

For example: “Jesus just can’t return at night or on a cloudless day, because that wouldn’t be arriving the same way He left!”

(as if there are no clouds at night! Hubble sees clouds too …)

And a “secret” return may or not mean Secret Rapture teachings, which are, um, intricate. (The “Left Behind” series took me over 20 years to analyze.) You may recognize some of their strange teachings:
  1. Three appearances of Christ, not two. (i.e. Incarnation, Secret Rapture, and [years later] Judgments.
  2. The “LAST TRUMPET” of 1 Corinthians 15 isn’t the Last Trumpet in the L.B. series. (They put all the trumpets of Revelation of the Apocalypse AFTER the 1 Cor. 15 trumpet.)
  3. Jesus collects His real, true Church ™ in secret: they hear the 1 Cor. 15 trumpet but nobody else does.
  4. Unbelievers only see Jesus 7 years after the Secret Rapture, when they are judged i.e. doomed.
  5. Some groups (such as L.B.) say this still doesn’t usher in Eternity: there is another Judgment 1,000 literal years later. It’s designed to catch all the sinners who were underage during the last one.
Basically, your questions sound like you’ve been exposed to some Pre-Millennial Dispensation. I was exposed to it myself when I was underage. 1 Peter 3:15 was a help to me, and might be a help to you. In my experience, most of the people who taught me strange teachings did it because they heard it from someone they trusted, and so on, and so on.
 
If I had to sum it up in one sentence, it would be:

It’s more important to be right with the First Coming of Christ, and then the Second Coming will take care of itself. 🙂
 
He is present in The Holy Eucharist, in Confession behind the priest, St. Faustyna says Jesus is waiting there for you borrowing the priest as a screen and you are confessing to Him actually, and He is also present in our neighbors, homless people for example, people who are in distress, and any other scenario you can think of, which is why acts of mercy are important and we must constantly give selfless love and basically everywhere! He is alive and always with us, constantly watching us day and night. When we follow Gods, Jesus will come to us and he will make his dwelling with us. JESUS is pretty sneaky though, but so Adorable and Loving!
 
What is the sign in the heavens before his return then, any scripture on that?
 
Probably Revelation of the Apocalypse, chapter 20:11 …

Fun fact: the Secret Rapture theory isn’t just compared to “Beam me up Scotty” among its critics. They mentioned it in “Left Behind” (page 25), when an unbeliever really does ask if Star Trek took the passengers off his airplane. He knows perfectly well that his only alternative is to accept that his wife was right about her Secret Rapture, and he doesn’t want to.

Whereas most of us are expecting “the sky be rolled back as a scroll,” as the hymn says. So yes, I expect we’d notice it. 🙂

As lightening shines from the east (china) and shines to the west … so will the coming of the son of man

HE will come when no one expects it?.. eveyone is expecting it after Antichrist chaos

When will I come, will there be any faith… the jews later convert and enter the kingdom so there will be loads of faith?

The moon will turn blood red with an eclipse (happened january 2020) … then the sign of the sun of man will be in the heavens (skys)

Heavens will be shaken, the sun , the moon, the skys and the waves will roar… (is this after his return? or to warn us)

He will come on a cloud…

an angel will announce his arrival… ( but I thought no-one knows when he will come)?

There is so much in scripture that suggest he comes in secret? The catechism doesn’t make it clear. So now I’m worried he’s already here…

What makes you think He could already be here? The moon hasn’t turned to blood, no angels blasting trumpets, Jews haven’t converted. The ‘as lightening shines from the east and shines to the west’ indicates His 2nd Coming won’t be in secret, no? (The bible doesn’t mention China). No one knows the day or the hour…when we least expect it…sure. The angel will be at the time of His Coming. The angel isn’t going to blow the trumpet 2 weeks ahead of time. See what I mean? What’s important is to stay in a state of grace so when He does come, we’ll be ready to meet Him.

what about this seems secret? Seems like literally everyone will see this at the same time and it will be so shocking (pardon the pun) that everyone will know

The other stuff hasn’t happpened. Please dont’ let yourself get swayed. Remember the rest of that passage about the lightening. From Matthew 24: " “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe him. 24 “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25 “Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 “If therefore they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go forth, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27 “For just as the lightning comes from the east, and flashes even to the west, so shall the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 “Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather."

OP China is not in the text…that is speculation, and I also don’t think it applies in context. East to the west to me means just everywhere.

Good to hear you’re not in a cult or being targeted by one. You aren’t able to buy and sell? There is curb-side, online, things are opening up now. I spent a ton ordering things online during the shutdown. No, this COVID thing is like the Spanish Flu of 1918. That passed. This will pass. It’ll be ok.

Right. Everyone will see Him Return at the same time. No secret there. Although I have wondered if that’ll just be in Jerusalem since the angels said He’d return just as He left. But that’s silly thinking…I know.

Plus, at the 2nd Coming there will be the resurrection of the dead. That won’t be easy to miss.

I think it means in the clouds, with the ascension he was raised up into heaven.
