I’ve been thinking about attending such a Mass for my confirmation sponsor this coming Saturday.
This isn’t a religious question as much as it is a question of local custom, particularly the customs of those who will be attending the funeral. And they are also a bit age specific, as well. In most cases, younger people are allowed more latitude, as long as they don’t “stick out”. In most cases, more-than-casual attire in muted or darker colors is acceptable. Generally avoid bright colors and patterns.I’ve been thinking about attending such a Mass for my confirmation sponsor this coming Saturday.
Likewise elsewhere. I agree. Yes, we are in mourning, but we are celebrating the life and resurrection of the person’s soul also. Most priests wear white vestments.I see about half and half in the US Midwest. Some wear black; some just wear respectable clothes regardless of color.
Not everybody has black clothing in their wardrobe, especially many young people, who have little use for it (unless they are Goths or Emos). Springing even fifty bucks for a cheap black shirt and cheap black pants that they are probably not going to wear again for years is hard to justify when cash is tight. Why WOULDN’T you wear black?
