Does Pat Roberson think he is God

Just to clarify (you can google this and check out the statements on youtube for yourselves, as you can imagine the statements are everywhere) Robertson said Haiti was destroyed because they made a pact with the devil in order to expel the French. Arguably he blames the devil and not god (although I’m really not sure); but the insensitivity, cruelty, and plain stupidity of his remarks are astounding. To think this blithering idiot could have been president is pretty scary.

I didn’t bother to google whether there’s really any credence to this alleged legend that the Haitians made a pact with the devil (whom I think is an imaginary character anyway, but I digress). Nonetheless, it stuns me to think a guy who claims to be intelligent (I assume) believes individuals can make pacts with cosmic beings that will impact future generations of people (who probably have no direct relationship with them) infinitely into the future. Under this dribbling idiots logic I suppose I could make a pact with the devil that will saddle America infinitely into the future (and I suppose his grandson will blame my pact with the devil for the next hurricane in Louisiana or Florida).

I can’t express in words how big of an idiot I think Pat Robertson is, there’s no words (I can’t even think of a profane word that describes how stupid the guy is). But it doesn’t bother me so much that there’s a few idiots in the world (if it did I’d be bothered constantly), what bothers me is that there’s thousands, maybe hudreds of thousands (I shutter to think millions) who send this idiot (whose worth as much as a billion dollars) their money and fund his little hate machine (and the irony on top of the cake is it’s all in the name of a loving Jesus).

Anyone who supports this idiot, or defends his drool, is likewise an idiot.

Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, what the one who was smoking meth and screwing his gay lover on the side … if all these kroons were piled up and tossed overboard in the middle of the pacific, the south could only get smarter
I observe that you use the word idiot 7 times. You also use the word stupid 2 times.

You are aware that idiot is a metric of intelligence. From this source an idiot is one whose IQ is less than 20. An imbecile is between 20 and 49, while a moron is between 50 and 69.

If you want to use inflammatory language, I must insist that you use it properly.

Now if you want to say that Pat uses extremely bad judgement at times, you have no argument from me. But I highly doubt whether anybody with an IQ of less than 20 could even appear on TV and speak a cohesive sentence.

This whole discussion begs questions and that is: Is God in control of everything or just somethings? Are natural disasters under the control of nature or the hand of God. Did God will this earthquake or was he asleep at the wheel? Did this happen because of Pat Robertson or in spite of him? Does God judge a nation when the leadership disregards Him?
The above comments are typical of the evangelical / Pentecostal mindset that Pat Robertson and his tv evangelist buddies have been selling people for years. What Pat Robertson was saying is that the people of Haiti brought this on themselves…That is what he said. Thousands of people lay under tons of concrete and it’s their fault! Why? Because of something some people said hundreds of years ago! To understand how any sane Christian can think this way you have to understand the way people like Roberston view the world, man, and his relationship with God. They believe God walks around with a big club, and any time someone gets out of line he beats them over the head with it. I run into this mind set all the time with my evangelical co-workers.
To answer Mr. Hus: Yes God is in control, but he does not send hurricanes, floods, or earthquakes down upon people just because they aren’t evangelical Christians like you and Pat. This earthquake happened because we live in a fallen world, and bad things happen to us all including evangelical Pentecostals who have a twisted view of the nature of God and man, and a complete misunderstanding of God’s word.

Pat Robertson is a smug self-serving man. I imagine he is very rich from all the people who are taken in by him. I can’t stand that guy.
And what are your qualifications to make this assertion? Are you all of a sudden Deity that you can make judgments on a persons heart?

The last I checked, human beings are only qualified to make objective judgments concerning somebodys actions and words. We have no knowledge to judge attitudes and heart motives.

Again…for many reasons do not particularly care for him myself. That is not an overstatement though.

I see nowhere in what Pat says that implies he holds God responsible. I will have to review what he said again, but I think his answer implies that he holds satan responsible.
No, he’s holding the people of Haiti responsible…For something their pagan ancestors said hundreds of years ago…Do you think God should hold you responsible for the things your pagan ancestors said and did hundreds of years ago?

Who can have the assurance of one way of another? The past is in God’s hands; live the present moment.

One thing is for sure, at this time, our brothers in Haiti need our corporal and spiritual acts of mercy. God is in control and it would not happened if it wasn’t permitted by Almighty God. But He allowed it to happen for a reason, because a greater good will come out of it.

We, as children of God must be in solidarity with the people of Haiti. Join EWTN in praying the Holy Rosary for the victims in Haiti; it started last night.

Lord Jesus, come in glory!

Obviously you think a great deal of him. Why? Most of what comes out of his mouth is hateful. Seems very very UN-Christian.

I have the right to have an opinion on him. I’ve seen him a few times and he left a bad taste in my mouth. What good does he serve?

I think what Pat is saying is perhaps God is in control and has a plan. We may not know what it is. We may not like it either. But…we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Rom 8:28).

Job 42:2 (NIV) "I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.

We should be praying for the people of Haiti!
That isn’t what he said. We need to do more than pray for them we need to contribute to their relief.

Perhaps. I don’t know. Seems plausible.

So?

That is really only saying that if you go off praying to satan, maybe God will allow you to get what you asked for. I don’t see what is so “evil” about this idea.
I’m sure you don’t.

Bottom line here: Dumb haitians “get” what they “deserve” for simply being ignorant of his God hundreds of years ago while under slavery and intense pressure to find relief and did what they thought would help with the limited understanding they had to do so out of desperation. And his God is allowing that action to be the sole reason they are poor (he mentions poverty more than once) must be a prosperity guy too?
And that this natural disaster was really a supernatural event, and part of this ongoing curse that I assume will never end? How does he explain that? How does he explain why christians were killed in this? Oh, maybe they weren’t the right brand of christians…

Why anyone would defend such a bigoted man even though you feel things he said in the past and NEVER retracted dont tell us much about this man, is they all point to hating anyone who does not agree with him, and that is sad. And there are too many people supporting his stupid campain. I should get a list of his dumb comments together for you to look at before you decide to run to his defense. He is responsible for his long history of hate.
Bridgeforsale said it much better than I did.
The world would be a better place if people weren’t so easily mislead by the likes of him.

He’s holding all of us responsible for Adam and Eve. This is the sad reality to christian beliefs.

How about fool, crook, dirt bag, swindler, swine, and bigot?

Actually I don’t particularly care for him myself.

But here is the comparison.

I did not vote for Obama (if only for killing babies). I do not particularly argree with many of his remaining processes.

On the other hand, I get a lot of email from well meaning friends that is clearly “over-the-top”. Although I do not particularly like Obama, I: will any day of the week defend him against stuff that is very clearly over-the-top.

I have the right to have an opinion on him. I’ve seen him a few times and he left a bad taste in my mouth. What good does he serve?
Yes and what you are saying for now is for the most part not over-the-top. What you were saying assumes you knew his heart and thus was over the top.

Fool:

Jesus in the sermon of the mount specifically warns about calling my neighbor you fool. So that might not be a good idea. Foolish though might be fair.

Crook:

That would be for a jury of his peers to decide. Since no charges have been brought up concerning him, that also would be over the top.

Dirt bag

The last I checked a dirt bag was a part of a vacuum cleaner

Swindler

See crook

Swine

I thin Pat Robertson is of genus species homo sapiens, not whatever a pig is

Bigot

Arguable. I think you can make a case that all (well maybe most) of us are “bigots” to some extent or another. It is just whether what we are bigoted against is fashionable or unfashionable. So possible but not very meaningful.

I put as much trust in Pat as I do with Benny Hinn

One of the Commandments to “not bear false witness” definitely applies here. If Pat Robertson didn’t know if this was real or not he would have done well to simply not say anything. That would have been the Christian response. Instead he paints the Haitians with an extremely harsh brush. This shows a lack of charity and compassion for the people over there. He should have just simply asked for prayers and donations instead of criticizing what their ancestors may or may not have done.

I have watched the clip in question. What I got out of it was he really doesn’t care if it’s a real story or not. “Napoleon III or whatever” and “they (the Haitians) need to have and we need to pray them, for a great turning to God” his words. Over 70% of the nation is Catholic, so what is he really trying to say here? This honestly sounds to me like he is more interested in converts to his church than anything else.

I just watched both those videos. Pat’s and the Haitian reaction. While I don’t know much about the Haitians, I would take their side in a heartbeat compared to Pat’s comments.

This is a horrible event in the world, it should point us more toward unity, but unfortunately mankind, for the most part, are idiots.

Haven’t read page 4. Glad that somebody posted about this. I have always given him the benefit of the doubt but he’s gone too far this time and I think I agree, he has an Intelligence quotient less than 20.

Incidentally, it pays to watch Red Eye on Fox News at 0200 Central time. Yes, they Haitians did do some Voodoo thing or something…and 11 years later they were able to defeat the French. You would think a pact with the devil would produce more immediate and satisfactory results.

Natural disasters are of course under God’s control, and what HIs plan is with them is a mystery to us as mere human beings, but we can know, because we know that God is just, that it is not a form of judgement against particular races or nations of people, just because of their skin color or their ancestry.

My personal opinion is that Pat Robertson should be thought a fool and keep his mouth shut, rather than open it and remove all doubt.
