Matthew 18 –15 But if thy brother shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke him between thee and him alone. If he shall hear thee, thou shalt gain thy brother. 16 And if he will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand. 17 And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. 18 Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven.

Luke 10 --16 He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.*

To summarize, Christ founded one church on Peter and he commanded his church to teach all that Christ commanded. Christ will bind in heaven whatever the church teaches and the church is the pillar and ground of the truth i.e. infallible. Therefore, if one does not listen to the church he will be as a heathen because he despiseth Christ.

I believe you have it backwards. It is not the church using scripture to support its claims it is Christ instituting and claiming the church to support and promote his teachings.

You sound exactly like myself about 5 years ago. I had spoken with many other christians with my multitude of questions and became so discouraged, I began to think maybe Jesus church was no longer here. I was very disappointed in the fact that many christians that belong to the same church cannot even agree.
I had an ideal in my mind of what the true church would be and none of the protestant churches fit that ideal.
I had been conditioned by all that the RC church was false from the getgo and so I would not even look at her.
All the while I kept having this reoccuring thought cross my mind wondering why all the confusion & arguing? Why don’t people just pray and ask Jesus what church instead of arguing? then my next thought would always be (If it were so easy, Then those far wiser than I would have already done that and would all be worshipping of sunday together) I kept dismissing the thought.
After the death of my father and then my son a year later, I completely broke down in a puddle of tears, completely surrendered myself to Jesus, him to please lead me home and I would go anywhere he told me even if it were one of the three churches I had made up my mind were false.
The most amazing things started happening and today I can graciously thank our Lord and Savior I’m A Roman Catholic and none of the things I’d been told that the RC taught were even true. I’ve spent the last 2.5 years reading and learning about this wonderful church, The Beauty, The Tradition, The History, The Truth, last but not least the Eucharist! I had no idea what I was missing.
And to answer your question. No I dont think Jesus and his church claim to know to much.
We all know that God Knows All.

What an awesome post and great story. I’m so sorry about the loss of your father and son. It must have been horrendous to lose 2 such important people in your life so close to one another. Obviously God knows how to bring good from the bad and He has brought you home to Rome.

I agree that it is truly sad that our brethren don’t understand what they’re missing. I continue to pray that they (as well as our non-practicing Catholics) find the fullness of the Truth which Christ left for us in His Church.

Thanks for posting your story. God love ya - I will pray with you for unity. Even though we have a long way to go in some ways, I see signs of unity starting to happen with some of the folks in my life and it’s kind of exciting.

Well this old hymn came to my mind after I said a short prayer for unity. It’s one of those terrific ones we used to sing all the time but has gone out of fashion, so here’s sharing a “golden oldie” that maybe some youngsters and new converts here might never have heard:

At that first Eucharist before You died

And in our hearts Your law of love renew

Wow.

I do read the Bible, and have found nothing that contradicts the Church. However, even if I did, I am not the infallible interpreter of Scripture so what do I know anyways? I can’t read Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew or even Latin that extremely well to know what the original text says so I would be left arguing from the English translations. Nope, that just doesn’t fly.

One Bread One Body, Just sang it today at noon Mass, Just love the song.

Unity, Ahhh Yes! I’m beginning to think that unity for some is a very frightning thing. The ostracisim (SP) of family & friends, The fear of loosing all the people you love I try to keep this in mind when talking with our separated Bros & Sisters because sometimes even when you are sure they understand the CC their only argument goes something like (you say tomato & I say tamata) That’s when I think it’s time to stop talking scripture, dogma & doctine and pray together for Humility,courage & strength because the real issue at hand, they are just plain terrified. (Please no one take this the wrong way, I to was terrified, Lost all my friends, My husband & son are still scratching their heads and some of my family think I’ve lost my mind)

On a lighter note: Seattle Huh? I’m looking for a parish to attend when we come up to visit our son at UW can you recamend one

That is a good point. I think the Holy Spirit is encouraging us through John Paul the Great and others echoing Jesus’ words to Peter: “Be not afraid” - and also our already beloved Pope Benedict alluded to this in his inaugural homily (the quote below is from the end of 3rd from last paragraph … but the whole thing is great! - this remarkable homily moves me every time)

…It is really so: the purpose of our lives is to reveal God to men… There is nothing more beautiful than to be surprised by the Gospel, by the encounter with Christ. There is nothing more beautiful than to know Him and to speak to others of our friendship with Him. The task of the shepherd, the task of the fisher of men, can often seem wearisome. But it is beautiful and wonderful, because it is truly a service to joy, to God’s joy which longs to break into the world.

On a lighter note: Seattle Huh? I’m looking for a parish to attend when we come up to visit our son at UW can you recamend one

St Monica parish on Mercer Island is the absolute best i think! It is about 15-20 minutes driving from UW. The little student chapel at the UW Newman Center is good too - but if y’all go there, arrive ten minutes or so early to get a seat.
