Does the Holy Spirit guide Christians to truth?

Because nature of man is many temptations, desires, lust, pride; etc. from the flesh itself, the world and the devil. Baptism cleans the sins but not temptations. See Saint Paul’s letters.

they ask questions.
You can never ask to many questions. I often tell people that “WHY?” is the reason I am Catholic. She is the only one who gives me logical explanations when I ask why? The question WHY? is how I judge all doctrines of Christianity. If the answer I receive does nothing but circumvent the question I ask then I know for certain that that person is following a man made tradition. Take Sola Scriptura for instance, no where in the Bible does Jesus ever once even allude to a desire for us to base our faith on scripture alone. He comes right out and tells us we must be taught by the ones taught by those He originally taught.
do not understand my not accepting all doctrine in the Catholic Church.
I think I do understand, it’s very difficult to be told what to do, that is human nature. We want what we want, and can easily convince ourselves that what we want and don’t want is OK. I see that daily in every aspect of life.

Just a little food for thought that just came to me. Do you believe there will be “doctrine” in heaven or do you believe it will be a free for all?

The way I see it the doctrines of the Catholic Church are going to be a walk in the park compared to heaven. I believe there’s going to be a lot of purification going on in Purgatory before we are able to handle 1 second in heaven.
It divides Christians. 1 Corinthians 10.
Have you ever thought hard about what you just said here? I mean to the furthest extent?

Basically what you are saying here is Catholic doctrine divides Christians and Jesus would prefer that we stopped doing what He asked and conform to what humans want, because He would rather our wills be united than have His will be done.

Yes I understand you are having troubles with some of Catholic doctrine however can’t you see that the unity you desire is actually division? You are basically wanting the Catholic Church to agree their is no authority from Jesus on this earth and conform to the rest of Christianity in regards to say the Eucharist. Well where does it end? do we conform on divorce and remarriage? How about abortion or homosexual marriage? If there is no longer an authority how do we become united when there are Christian churches out there who have no problem with some of these?
Our world is being overcome with Athiesm and eastern religions. We have a duty.
How is admitting that Jesus left us no authority on this earth help us overcome this?
Yes I am disappointed at the Catholic Church.
As are many. Just keep in mind that the Apostles did not leave Christ in the Eucharist because of Judas and nor should you.
But careful we never read the Bible or shared the wisdom. God speaks to us through his word, that is sacred. :). Lots of us are reading.
Not sure what you mean by this?

Have a good night,

God Bless

Your very good at this. :). Seems more like fencing than faith. Thanks for chatting. :). C

I’m just a firm believer that faith needs to be logical. It’s easy to make a claim for this or that, but in my experience people don’t really think things through to the fullest extent. They just blindly repeat what someone else has said with out giving any thought to what they say because it sounds good on the surface.

I try to approach things with people from a logical/common sense point of view. I apologize if it is coming across like I’m beating you over the head with it or fencing with you as you put it. I’m just trying to get you to think deep about what you are asking. You believe Some Catholic teachings divide Christians well there are those who claim to be Christian that say Christian teachings on the divinity of Christ or the Trinity or not accepting Universalism, etc is also dividing Christians. So the question you need to ask is if you get your way should we throw Christ’s divinity and the Trinity out the window as well so that we are even less divided?

I think you have a lot to think about and some big decisions ahead of you. I just want you to have a well informed conscience so you are able to make a logical decision and not an emotional one.

God Bless

I am not aware of Christians that question Christ’s divine nature or the Holy Trinity. Maybe u know some. You have taken it on your own judgement to assume my weaknesses and other Christians. You know when you point your finger at someone you have one pointing back at yourself. :). Those are feelings and emotions. I have already learned that nothing about that is logical. Am I wrong again?

Mormons consider themselves to be Christians but don’t agree with our definition of the trinity

I apologize if it seems like I’m pointing fingers. I’m doing the best I can trying to pull something out of the vague responses you give me. I try my best not to judge others and even write that what I am saying is from what I have experienced in the past. If you have truly thought these things through to there fullest extent then I am truly sorry for bringing it into the conversation.

I have always felt everyone deserves and answer. It is just the type of person I am I was taught that if someone says something to you they are entitled to a response. I figure If they don’t like what Im saying they will stop responding.
Those are feelings and emotions. I have already learned that nothing about that is logical. Am I wrong again?
I’m thinking that is meant to be sarcasm. Did I get that one right?

God Bless

I don’t know how to answer like you do. So I will comment top to bottom. In my circles of Christian friends Mormons are never thought to be in one with Christ. So no I did not include them and you have. Misunderstanding. I am thinking all day long, into the night and first thing in the morning. ( What can I learn, reading my bible and listening to some people who spread the message of salvation constantly. I have listened to Catholic podcast, just have never found any that drew me to know more) no offense to them. My favorite is RZIM. I attend Sunday mass and a weekly bible study. I love my group of women they are a diverse group whose lives have been changed radically. Two exhindus and one Jewish girl who all seek the word of God and his promise of salvation. They all love praise and worship. I could never minimize there faith. God knows them inside and out. It was your passion to stick to logic. I was teasing you about using your judgement to make a point. Sorry.

No you missed my point, you don’t include them and I don’t consider them Christians either. The point is they claim they are a Christian. So aren’t you and your circle of friends (as well as me) just causing division, which is what you stated God doesn’t want. Do you see the similarity here. You see no problem when Our doctrines divide us from Mormons but you see a problem when Catholic doctrine causes division with others. Wouldn’t that be considered a double standard?
I could never minimize there faith.
I would never want to minimize anyone’s faith. I know many Catholics who seem to just go through the motions and I know many nonCatholics who seem to have great faith. Not sure how anyone could minimize anyone’s faith. But this topic isn’t about faith it is about truth. To me truth has to be logical which is why I took that approach.

Wouldn’t you agree that someone could hold little faith in something that is absolutely true and someone could hold amazing faith in a lie?

My point being, For me anyway, what good is my faith if I have no way of knowing, with absolute certainty, what Jesus wants and what He doesn’t want?

Well I’m heading to bed, I’m east coast and an hour ahead of you.

Good night,

God Bless

Well, no argument on what Christ started. If WE continued, we wouldn’t have Protestors…
Since we deviated, others took Gods truths & disbursed for more holiness.
Before you get upset, NONE OF US are carrying on the Spirit of Christ, as He wished. We are all sinners saved by grace. Gods truths have many facets. Catholics have it right on, w the Last Supper remembrance w Holy Communion. Confession=What you loose on Earth, you loose in Heaven. What you bind in Earth, you bind in heaven.
Matrimony is good. Baptism is good. Confirmation is good in theory but not in actuality. Meaning gifts of the Holy Spirit weren’t kept active &alive. Priesthood is needed. Apostles were w Peter as the first Pope. But after the persecutions, when a physical church began, our flesh gets tempted.
There are Protestants in mission fields where they lose their lives. Just b/c they don’t have communion every Sunday or daily, doesn’t make their blood less cherished by God. The communion issue is bifold:1-some believe it’s a symbol. But they are still teaching Jesus in many other Truths. When a choice comes, believers can switch to Catholicism, when available. Originally, we didn’t have daily masses or communions. OR weekly. It depended on church growth & availability. I like the Medievil castle w their own church & Abbott.
2-They believe it’s the real presence (they do) but felt the parishioners were not appreciating the Holiness of communion w frequency. Reducing the times kept Communion Holy…
We have same Bibles x for the Apochrypha. We have different focus on scriptures. We, as believers, read the LIVING WORD OF GOD. It’s fluid. Meanings change w the need in our hearts.
There is a meaning w the Book, chapter, & verses.
Where the Protestant has a different meaning bringing about a different theology is tricky but helpful, in some ways.
I guess, the thought that Jesus took our sins & diseases on the cross for us, is real. TRUE! IT was done & FINISHED! Do we accept other crosses? Can we use scripture to overcome our trials b/c He DID IT!
OR once saved, always saved… Its nice to think that but we “backslide” a lot. They’re actually admitting we mess up w backsliding. They’ll have altar calls. We have confessions. I enjoy the differences b/c if they are believing & loving God w BORN AGAIN CONFIRMATION. They got it!
But, of course, the Catholic Church is downplaying Vatican II now. Our church attendance dropped. It did as our scandal increased.
JESUS CHRIST IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH & THE LIFE. He is! Not a denomination. Religion sins.
I wish, the purity of the church that God created stayed true. We have the format but the Spirit is present individually. I feel the Third part of the Trinity is kept quiet.
I’m a cradle Catholic that left for 4 yrs. I joined ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH. Following the Holy Spirit. Protestants pray for the lost Catholics. We informed them they were incorrect. As a child, I had a Protestant Father. It bothered me when my church said,”Only Catholics go to heaven!”
Everybody has the capability of a ticket UP or DOWN.
God loves those who love Him.
Gently, Bring His name before the masses in Love &TRUTH. In Jesus name. Amen

Toddy absolute truth is God There are people that follow the rules in religion and others that are overwhelmed with the presence of God in their lives. It happened to me. But this verse speaks to me. Phillipians 3:12. Not that I have already attained all this but I press on for that which Christ took hold of me ) When I first started reading the Bible the thought came to me, wow the book is coming alive. My bible girlfriends are living with God so alive they comfort one another with the word of God. They love the lord. I hear knowledge and Catholic common sense from you but not the passion of Gods love. Is that not signiifacant to Catholiscim. Is trying to be the one and only true religion more important or striving for a more intimate relationship with our lord and savior? Romans 8 14-17, For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. Thanks for your chatting. I am only making a point. I know you love the Lord because you are defending his honor. I am just continuing the conversation. 🙂

I hear knowledge and Catholic common sense from you but not the passion of Gods love
Well we are on an apologetic forum so there is that. And about the only way I can think of to express love in a message would be with emojis 👼
Is that not signiifacant to Catholiscim
I mean no offense (and I do mean this out of love) but do you believe anything you have written in this entire thread is being presented with the “passion of Gods love”? Like I said you aren’t giving me much to go on here. The only thing I can do is take a statement like this and respond the best I can.

Let’s give this a try. You say this to me, my response to you, which I know won’t come across loving, would be that you must obviously only concentrate on the bad things the Catholic Church has done if you truly believe Catholics don’t think showing the passion of God’s love is significant.

Now it’s your turn. Pretend I said something similar to you, how would you answer this question (and not just fluff it off) with the passion of God’s love?
Is trying to be the one and only true religion more important or striving for a more intimate relationship with our lord and savior?
You have on a number of occasions accused me of making assumptions. Aren’t you making an assumption here that it is impossible to do both? Didn’t Jesus preach one and only one true religion while at the same time having and intimate relationship with God? Jesus showed us it is possible shouldn’t we strive to be like Jesus?
Romans 8 14-17, For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him
What does this verse say to you? I can’t see how it relates to your post?

St. Paul here sums up the entire message in the last sentence…“provided we suffer with him”.

I have nothing against your girlfriends and their love of the Lord. That is awesome. Wish I could find a group like that. But much of what you write sure seems to say see division and suffering is bad. Can’t we all just get along and comfort one another.

I’m not saying I have a problem with comforting one another I’m just saying Romans 8 doesn’t seem to fall in context with the rest of your post which seems to say suffering is not a good thing.
Thanks for your chatting. I am only making a point. I know you love the Lord because you are defending his honor. I am just continuing the conversation.
Keep it coming. Like I said I got tough skin, feel free to hit me with both barrels. I can take it, but keep in mind I will always respond and point out when I see something that just doesn’t add up.

God Bless
