.

He denied it. That was a lie.
If the people of nauvoo asked him not to reveal it, he didn’t. To reveal it would have meant death and destruction by the mobs who were thirsting for mormon blood. Unfortunately, polygamy was against the law and by practicing polygamy the mormon were engaged in civil disobedience. However, if america was then the land of the free and the home of the brave, nothing would have been put under the rug.

Do you mean like this?

In 1843, Joseph Smith told the press that Mormons did not practice polygamy. But at the time Smith was already married to 12 women, taking a 17 year old orphan as his second wife back in 1835. (The Twenty-seventh Wife, Wallace, Irving, NY, Simon & Schuster, 1961)

Momon 12th article of faith:
We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
They weren’t in civil disobedience, they were breaking the law, and going against their own article of faith.

Joe tested out his adultery as god divine law with a small group first. It was only revealed to everyone when the Expositor outed him. Seems the test with the small group failed.
Again a fallacy. The expositor did not out anyone. The people of nauvoo knew about the polygamy and were fearful that the mobs would find out about it. In fact, the mormons of nauvoo wanted the expositor closed down for their own safety. I don’t think that many people had the chance to read that newspaper.

lol…you and the other Mormons have that red herring thing down to a science. Yes, let’s compare Abraham, who lied to protect his wife, with Joe, who lied to make money, gain power, and have lots of women. Makes perfect LDS sense. Why, you and the other Mormons need to try facing tyhe issues without deflecting in hopes of derailing
I think that you over use the words red herring. šŸ™‚

Revisionist history whyme. I suggest you study up.

ā€œThey banned me from marry 33 14 year olds. Oh, the humanity!ā€

Are you suggesting that laws against POLYGYNY (I’ve yet to have read of a male LDS member in favor of his wife(s) marry more than one man) or somehow ā€œunfreeā€?

For a faith that claims to uphold the sanctity of marriage, I find that statement…ironic…

And there was the problem for the mormons of nauvoo. It was not an easy situation. In the usa, people should be free to practice their faith but in the mormon case, they were not free to do so. So, they were acting in civil disobedience by practicing polygamy.

However, this shows that the critics were wrong to assume that the Utah mormons stopped polygamy because it was against the law etc. They stopped polygamy because it was causing too many problems and the federal govenment was about to interfere in a not so nice way.

why me has shown his support and fondness for polygamy and how he thinks it is perfectly fine for an adult married male in his 30’s to be going after a girl of 15, so you should take that into account.

…In the usa, people should be free to practice their faith but in the mormon case, they were not free to do so. …
So if a faith wanted to perform same sex marriages, the LDS leadership would be fine with that?

How much criminal activity do you consider a civil disobedience? Maybe you don’t know what civil disobedience means. Here’s a definition from wikipedia:

Civil disobedience is the active refusal to obey certain laws, demands, and commands of a government, or of an occupying international power, using no form of violence

Building ones own army is not a sign of non-violence.

Yes, I know whyme. They stopped when the federal govt. started seizing assets of the LDS church, aka, Brigham Young’s possessions. Funny how all of the sudden God changed His mind when the material possessions are threatened.

Actually, they send mixed signals in this area. While they put a lot of money and effort behind passing proposition 8 in California, a few weeks later they endorsed a law in UT that supports laws that are mainly civil in nature. Only, they ensured that the law exempted themselves, meaning, they can discriminate against hiring homosexual individuals, while everyone else, including their own membership, can’t. lol.

I should add for clarity, that the LDS Church is a major employer in Utah.

I think that you over use the words red herring. šŸ™‚
since I only use it when you and the other Mormons are throwing out red herrings, I will take that as an admission on y’alls part

=scipio337;6751476]Not to mention, how conveniently God changes his mind (through revelation, of course) regarding an ā€œeverlasting covenantā€ when faced with legal recourse.
🤷 Sorry, but what don’t I understand about your post? 😊

Why don’t you try looking on the thread where you posted that request?

I have been wondering why you have avoided answering. 🤷

Let me help you out since you’re having trouble dealing with the hole you’ve dug yourself into here. You made the request on the temple ceremony thread.

By the way, it isn’t up to me, or anyone else to keep track of your posts.

You do realize the the source is listed in the post right? I have even bolded it for you, because it must have been very easy for you to miss it when I posted it originally. 🤷

Stop trying to deflect.

I wasn’t referring to your source that was mentioned but to your other sources that you have used for your mormon research. You claimed that they were unbiased. I have never seen an unbiased book or research on mormonism. Usually, the authors have a biased understanding of mormonism since they all take a side as to whether JS was a prophet or a conman.

My guess is: the book that you quoted from takes JS to be a conman. Thus, if so, it is biased. šŸ™‚

The purpose of this thread was to show just how the lord supported polygamy in the old testament based on the first reading from last sunday June 13th. The lord gave david his master’s wives into his bosom. That was the point of the thread. So, the question: Does the lord condone polgyamy?

Building one’s own militia to protect the lds members was a smart move considering the hassle the mormons experienced. And even when they were in utah, some california newspapers were calling for the extermination of the mormons which led to fear among the mormon populations which led to the unfortunate MMM incident.

And why should the federal govenment seize lds church assets and possessions? And if I remember correctly, there were other threats involved from the federal government.
