Does this prevent me from communion?

It breaks thou shalt not bare false witness. It doesn’t seem to be of grave matter but it does break one of the ten commandments.
You didn’t bear false witness against your neighbor…you just didn’t want to go into a big explanation.
See what the priest says in confession.

I think it was TS Eliot who called this class of thing “the lie politic” and in many ways it has become an integral part of life. Businesses do this all the time; give customers a skewed version of the reality. Tell not truth to be polite and non-combative, Or to spare feelings, or avoid costs…

Sin? Best avoided if you can but it has become an infection in modern life.

So here’s my conclusion from all this. I will confess this next time I go to confession. If that doesnt happen by Sunday I will still take communion for two reasons 1: Even though it’s its one of the ten commandments it isn’t a grave matter and 2: It happened really without me knowing it until after it happened. These both seem to put this in the venial category. Some on here seem to think I’m a fool for asking these questions on here or not knowing the answers right away, but this has helped me greatly and will continue to help me in the future. I think I do have a bit of scrupulosity going on and I may have abstained from communion a couple times when it wasn’t necessary. So thanks to everyone for your (name removed by moderator)ut and advice.

God bless

And also remember, you do not have to rush to Confession for venial sin. You can mention venial sin at your next regular or necessary Confession. A good act of contrition and a worthy Communion wipes away venial sin.

So the other day I was on the phone with a client and I had to text the client my phone number after the call was over. Then afterwards I forgot too and I told her my phone had to be restarted and that’s why I was delayed (even though this wasn’t true). Is this a mortal sin that would prevent me from taking communion or a venial sin?
At least in Catholicism we categorize sins, into big and small (mortal and venial).

Sometimes there is thin line to separate the two, since the former involves grave matter and willful intention.

In your case, there was an intention to lie but was it a grave matter? Perhaps not, after all you still gave her your number, only not as prompt as you promised, which you forgot to. You were covering that with a lie saying you had to restart your phone. Wonder why you had to do that but perhaps you still wanted to make a good impression on a client. So there was intention there.

I would confess such sin but whether I would receive Communion, it would depend on how serious is the implication and the consequence of the lie.

In principle, it is not a good practice to resort to lie, be it white lies, because it can be habit forming, which eventually we can get caught. It is bad for a Christian image and of course, God disallows it.

Since you have been given good advices already, I agree it was for you to discern yourself. Look pretty trivial to me. If I was you I would just tell the truth that I forgot and then sent her the number as promised.

As I said, it could be more than that, if your reason was to impress upon a client of your personal efficacy and trying to make her feel important to you. That would be another area again.
