I think it depends on your personal preference. My reality is different based on my past experiences. I grew up an Army Brat and have had jobs that exposed me to different things that would make others squeamish. BUT, the ability to stomach those things is what made me better at my career path. Likewise, the compassion my friend has is what makes her a great doctor. Obviously we don’t like the same shows and movies. Neither of us are blind to the dangers of the media but have very different ideas of what is enjoyable sometimes. She can watch surgery shows and I can watch crime dramas. I like Sci Fi and she likes romance.
I don’t let my kids watch the same shows I do, because I am an adult. My teenager can watch things my four year old cannot. I cannot say that all TV is bad just like I won’t say all music is bad or all books are bad. I think it’s all contextual and depends on what effect it has on you. I have my hot buttons and avoid those shows, etc. My buttons may be less or more than someone else’s and are probably different. Neither of those things define me as a good or bad person though.
