Mine does and I usually stay.

This may be a weird thing to say, but when I was looking for a parish, that is one of the reasons I was drawn to this parish.

Of course it also have a great group of devout parishioners and priests and beautiful masses. But the opportunity to get to know people after mass was a plus.

How about your parish?

We used to, but I know our parish has had to try and find ways of saving money and that was one thing that, at least for now, had to be cut back on. (we were wholloped last year with over 80" of snow; snow removal cost were astronomical to took a toll on our budget)

Our parish is small, but we do have a jar for freewill donations at the coffee hour which helps a little bit.

We do on a monthly basis. Youth groups ( Scouts, CYO sports team etc) will host it as a fundraiser.

The parish provides coffee maker and fixin’s, the youth group runnning it will provide bagles for $1 each, bring coffee for the coffee maker, and do the clean up afterward.

The last parish coffee hour I attended
was a couple weeks ago after a parish mission program.
After trying as a single lady to make conversation with married people,
another single lady came and sat at the table …
I thought that might be a good chance to make a new friend …
and then she asked me what was my astrological sign?
Since I’m not into the New Age,
that’s another friend I apparently won’t be making
at the parish coffee hour.
Even though I did my best to be friendly
throughout the conversation …
I felt it important to be my honest self as well.

Which is why normally I don’t attend Donut and Coffee hours,
but have learned to spend my time
taking nature and landscape photos by myself,
submitting them to art galleries,
and finally being accepted
somewhere
for something.

My best friend I happened to meet here on CAF,
and even though we lived in different states
super far from each other, she proved a true friend
in every sense of the word …
now I pray for the repose of her soul.

We have “donut Sundays”. I forget how often, but pretty often. I go for the bagels! 👍

Of course they’re not *New York *bagels, but they’ll do. 😃

Nothing like a NY bagel!! 😃 😉

All the parishes I have attended the past few years have “coffee hours” at least once a month. Sometimes I help run them, sometimes I just socialize and sometimes I do not participatee at all, it depends on my schedule.

I think it’s a great opportunity to cultivate new friendships. 🙂

I had no idea until i talked with another CAF’er that was jealous of our every Sunday coffee and doughnuts. That is the time for talking…not before Mass…and I think it helps cut down on it. When I was little we had them…maybe not every Sunday but at least once a month…I remember because they were Dunkin Doughnuts…something we no longer have here in this town.

We put out a donation box and it seems to be doing just fine.

Just so we’re on the same page: NYC – not Western NY bagel right? 😃
Oh boy…duck!

I still get my fix when I visit my parents in OC, NY. My brother is a subway conductor so there’s still the NYC connection there.

I don’t know that “hour” is the proper word.

But we do have coffee and donuts after all our Sunday Masses. It’s outside in the courtyard so any mess is easy to clean up. Suggested donation is $1 per donut which is plenty to cover the cost of the coffee as well.

We have coffee, juice, and donuts every other week or so after Mass and we typically stay. We try to do most of the social things which take place in the parish.

Ours doesn’t, although I did suggest having either an after-Mass coffee hour, or something in the mornings after parents dropped the kids off for school. Basically as a way for parishioners to get to know one another outside of Mass or the alcohol-heavy fish fry-type events. They looked at me like I was crazy.

On the first Sunday of the month, we have “fellowship” Sunday, with coffee and donuts after the Sunday morning Masses, and coffee and little dessert treats after the Saturday night Mass. I don’t think they have anything like this after the Sunday night Mass though, as that is “Life Night” and the teens go have their youth meeting.

I voted that I do not usually stay for it, my husband and I usually go eat somewhere. But I actually am planning to start attending it now.

They have alcohol at your fish fries?

Missing you for a while. Thought you had taken a lenten retreat from the internet.
