Here again. People want to use a comparison of people to animals when they want to support eating meat but argue against the comparison of people to animals when the argument is against eating meat. Go one way or the other. Don’t be so wishy washy. It makes for a really weak argument. Either dogs are like us (equal to us) and we all need meat or there is no comparison between human and animals since we are the (so called) superior being. Pick one or the other.
what a lovely dance around the issue…

i figured i woiuldn’t get an answer…

“Consider two spheres of concern that dominate vast swaths of our culture today: food and health. The Nazis took food very, very seriously. Hitler claimed to be a dedicated vegetarian. Indeed, he could talk for hours about the advantages of a meatless diet and the imperative to eat whole grains. Himmler… Hess, Bormann, and – maybe – Goebbels were vegetarians or health food fetishists… Hitler believed that man had mistakenly acquired the habit of eating meat out of desperation during the Ice Age and that vegetarianism was the more authentic human practice. Indeed, he often sounded like an early spokesperson for the raw food movement, which is becoming ever more fashionable. [He said: ] ‘The fly feeds on fresh leaves, the frog swallows the fly as it is and the stork eats the living frog. Nature thus teaches us that a rational ***diet should be based on eating things in their raw state.’” – From the book ***Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg

Hmmm… doesn’t eating raw meat (like animals do) usually cause humans to get sick? Oh, that’s right Hitler said it was unnatural to eat meat… hmm…

So we are to imitate the animals by eating raw food - but not imitate them in eating meat… as ALL animals and even many insects do…
That Hitler… No wonder he operated on feelings rather than intellect… I don’t think he had much to offer of the latter.

***‘The fly feeds on fresh leaves, the frog swallows the fly as it is and the stork eats the living frog. Nature thus teaches us ***’

That We Should Eat Meat*** - like all the other animals do…:doh2:

“Many leading Nazi ideologues also shared today’s deep-seated commitment to animal rights as opposed to animal welfare.” – [From the same book.]

Hey everyone: Here’s a trivia question for you. Whoever answers correctly gets a giant T-bone steak (just kidding… )😃

Question: Who made the following statement:

“How can you find pleasure in shooting from behind cover at poor creatures browsing on the edge of a wood, innocent, defenseless, and unsuspecting?”

Hint: it wasn’t Hitler…

I always find it odd that someone finds pride in being able to look another living being in the eye, nurture it, and then kill it. There’s something wrong with that picture. I read and hear so often…I raised it, fed it, cared for it, bonded with it, looked it in the eye, felt bad but killed it anyway for the good of all. I had to be the strong one. Get real! There’s just something lacking in people who do this. Somewhere along the line they didn’t develop empathy. It’s a psychological issue. Maybe something to do with power and control???
What a sad and judgemental attitude. I think this is one of the most singularly strong cases of someone judging another I have seen at CAF. Not only is such a one full of pride, but also has psychological issues? They lack empathy? Why? Because the do not se things as you see them. After all, what you as saying is simply not biblical. This is a dangerous post for a Christian because we will be judged by what manner we judge others. That is in the Bible, unlike this opinion of yours.

I asked some fellow posters not to rush to judgement and you blow right past them.

not to mention this:

if he were stranded on some deserted island and had been starving for - say - 10 days and a wild hog showed itself and he had a knife…

need i say more??

I for one will not pick one or the other because to do so is an error. Humans have a lot in common with animals biologically. They have nothing in common spiritually. Humans also have a lot in common with God. This does not mean we have to choose whether humans have no divine characteristics or all the divine characteristics.

Humans are something in between. Just as God shared in Man’s humanity, so Man shares in God’s divinity. Animals are lower than man as rocks are lower to animals. This does not in any way diminish our stewardship responsibilities toward them, but it must be kept in perspective.

ok, time’s up…

the answer to the trivia question is:

Wait… For those of you who missed the question it was:

Who said this:

“How can you find pleasure in shooting from behind cover at poor creatures browsing on the edge of a wood, innocent, defenseless, and unsuspecting?”

Heinrich Himmler.

and here’s the rest of what he said (Get this!!!):

"It’s really pure murder."

A top priority of the Nazis upon attaining power was to implement a sweeping animal rights law. In … 1933 Hermann Goring barred the “unbearable torture and suffering in animal experiments,” threatening to commit to concentration camps "those who still think they can treat animals as inanimate property… !!!] - from the book Liberal Fascism by J. Goldberg [emphasis mine]

… the fact that these conventionally leftist views were held by Nazis suggests that nazism isn’t as alien to [Leftist] thought as some would have us believe.

animal rights people don’t beleive animals are as good as humans…

they seem to think that animals are higher than humans…

talk about someone needing psychiatric help…

how low can your self-esteem GO anyhow??? Yikes!!!

=Marfran;5706278]China’s Dog Meat Trade: tiny.cc/wgdQJ The meat you eat. Does the species of animal make a difference?
Can one eat dog meat?

Sure you get get hotdogs most anywhere:D I’m sorry someone was going to share that so I just got it out of the way:blush:

Seriously, i know of no probiation against it. It sure beats starving!

Love and prayers,

What that proves is that even such evil person had some redeeming qualities, since having compassion for animals is a VIRTUE practiced by some saints.🙂

Ok… sorta… maybe…

but the lack of objective reasoning is astounding…

its horrible to kill animals but killing Jewish humans by the millions (and Catholics too and others) is acceptable… :banghead:

and no one can tell me that God didn’t ever speak to these human monsters and show them the idiocy of their thinking… … which was no thinking at all …

God speaks to everyone… No one is damned because of lack of trying on God’s part…

so umm… what was their problem?

just weirder than all get out… :hypno:

A few more studies that link eating high quantities of animal protein with cancer, quoting reports from the Lancet, the Cancer Research Institute, Physiology Review;
Letter for Doctors & Patients, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Science…

I think sometimes it is also just the ‘duh’ question to me (do you ever hear a science report and just say ‘duh’ - of course, like texting while driving is dangerous - DUH!) - to me the ‘duh’ on this is how long food takes to digest (length of time in the colon) animal protein, vs plant protein - the longer in the body the longer chance to be exposed to carcinogenic factors right 🤷 - a clean colon is a happy colon! 😉
.
Boy am I glad you’re not a physician.
Marfran,
I wasn’t aware of the Walmart issue. NO CATHOLIC should be shopping at Walmart if they really are pro-life! I may search that thread and see how they supported their choice to continue shopping there as most Catholics are quite adamant about the abortion issue. If they are shopping at walmart they are supporting abortion. No if’s and’s or but’s! Once again, it becomes an if it benefits me situation I’ll find a way around it. Do any of these people have the backbone to stand up for anything that may inconvience them in some way??? Looks like a big NO! And the Catholics that are offended by those remarks you are most likely one of those people that I’m talking about. If you are going to follow the bible then follow it. It’s not about if you are inconvienced in life. It’s about doing the right thing. Anybody can make excuses so it benefits them so they suffer no inconviences in life.
Hogwash. If you follow that train of logic, you could hardly shop anywhere at all and not support abortion. Does the bricklayer’s union of the guys who built the building you shop in support the Democratic party (Pro-abortion). Don’t know? Well, you’d better check it out. How about the suppliers of the wax that’s used on the floors where you shop?

This sort of thing can be taken to the ridiculous extreme, but “If you are gonig to follow the bible, then follow it. It’s not about if you are inconvenienced in life”, right? You NEED to do all of this sort of ridiculous research, following lone’s logic.
None of us should talk in absolute terms about the cause or causes of cancer, because it is not clear yet. Scientists do not know, much less any of us.
What I had meant to say in my earlier post, is that given the so many unknowns about the disease, and given the fact that some studies have found correlation between the consumption of meat and cancer, I would not consume the flesh of an animal with metastatic cancer, for example. Just in case.Would you, truthfully?Truthfully now? Many cases go undiagnosed in humans,I image that animal meat inspectors may pass as healthy animals that are not as well.
As mammals, we share some of the physical characteristics of some animals we eat.(wether we like it or not).
If those animals are sick, that may be transferred to us, like in the case of trichinosis(for eating pig, dogs, etc (unless you cook the meat thoroughly)
Mad cow disease, HIV I believe I heard started in animals as well, to name a few that can pass to humans .When the habitat(our bodies)are similar to that of certain animals,
illnesses may find suitable, ground to survive thrive and multiply.

On the other hand we are genetically very different to vegetables and fruits.
Tam
No, because you cannot buy meat from a carcass from an animal affected with metastatic cancer. Even if you could, it’s not a problem, if you cook it. You can eat pus if it’s cooked. I wouldn’t, but there’s no risk if it’s cooked to denature all the proteins.

Now you’re correct about parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases from (name removed by moderator)roperly prepared meat. But tumor cells are an entirely different matter.
People should be willing to kill any animal they are willing to eat. Absolutely. And if you can’t kill it, then you need to examine why you are willing to eat it ***only ***if someone else has done the “dirty work” for you. If you are uncomfortable with the act of killing the food that you “need,” then maybe you don’t need it so much after all.

Got no problem with the concept of slaughtering my own meat. 🤷

But the ones that do kill animals they are willing to eat have "psychological issues?" If they take pleasure in it, yes. Children who kill animals often progress to commit violence against people. This is a psychological problem. Workers in slaughterhouses can have issues too. Some may take the job because they need the money, and abhor the work. Others find a perverse pleasure in it–and then there are those like the great writer E. Hemmingway, who openly admitted that killing animals was a release for his aggressions.

***We are back to the fact that you have an agenda. People should not eat meat and every thread you start eventually comes around to that. ***

agenda: program of things to be done; specifically, a list of of things to be dealt with at a meeting.* Webster’s*

Say what, sister??? I work with animals. They are my profession. I naturally gravitate to “animal topics” as this is my area of expertise. I am Catholic. I appreciate the influence that St. Francis and other vegetarian saints have had on our Church. I also appreciate the writings of Matthew Scully, Dr. Deborah Jones (Catholic theologian), and other Catholics as to our modern society’s treatment of animals.

I naturally start threads with animal themes and concerns. So you are complaining, why??? If you do not like to discuss these issues why come to any thread concerning them, especially a thread that I have started???

No, I don’t eat meat, and I am glad to share why I don’t with anyone who is interested, either out of curiosity, interest in making the same choice, or interest in learning of the health benefits, ethical arguments for, etc.

maryjk: what is your agenda??? What are you all about??? Why do *you *like animal threads so much???

I think that we all have to be who we are–and I find it interesting to have discussions with folks who have differing vantage points. It certainly makes for “lively” conversation, does it not?

But what about if you believe it is wrong *to be cruel and abusive *to animals. Does that go for ***all ***animals? Can we be selective? In today’s modern society we are appalled by the mistreatment of dogs and cats. We are appalled with Michael Vick. Yet we think nothing of the cruelty and suffering endured by “factory” farm animals–or choose to be ***purposefully unaware ***or to ignore their plight, in favor of the pleasure of a cheeeseburger. Does our society have a schizophrenic view/attitude toward animals?? Does our morality in the treatment of animals need to face up to some of the “realities” that we prefer not to know about?
It is a culture of not wanting to know because it will inconvenient to know and to do something about it. Pet animals are right in our backyards so it is hard to ignore. Cruelty is cruelty whether it is cruelty to a child, a dog or to a cow.
w

Cruelty is cruelty whether it is cruelty to a child, a dog or to a cow.

If you mean the word “cruelty” has the same meaning in all three cases, then the word does contain the same meaning in all three case. However, one of those three means a lot more to God.

I do like how so many speak on behalf of God.🙂 Hopefully we** will** see God one day and all will be revealed.

I do like how so many speak on behalf of God.
I would not have said this if I could not have backed it.
Matthew 25: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Matthew 10: 42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Matthew 18:5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
It is not that I speak on behalf of God, rather I reflect what God has revealed about Himself. I could also quote the catechism about the differences as the Church sees if you want.

Thank you for the quotes. They are what Christ taught. However how do they explain what you said.

I have not gone through this whole thread so pardon me if this has been brought up before, but is it okay to eat something capable of love and devotion the way a dog is? I could go on about the ways in which animals like dogs and horses differ from typical farm animals but those with experience of them should know what im talking about. I personally dont like the idea of eating any animal for meat but i cannot accept someone who eats the meat of domesticated animals like dogs. Even dolphins.

Consumption of weird meats is just a small part of Chinese culture. If they were to cease eating dog meat it is silly to assume their culture would be gone, when there is so much more to it. Ive even heard of a type of Chinese vegetarian food. I suppose however much I dislike the idea of it, having relatives who consume meat I find it easier to accept that others do it. I think we can leave dogs and cats alone.

There is a Chinese saying that they will eat anything with their backs to the sun. That’s about every animal on earth. There are many Chinese who do not eat dog meat or other exotic meat like bear paws and such. It is totally unnecessary to eat any meat much less the meat of endangered animals. It is unacceptable to torture the animal before killing it to make the meat “sweeter”.

Chinese culture is old and much more than that.

Some Chinese Buddhists and some others who have a devotion to Kwan Yin run vegetarian food shops. Some of the food is fake meat. No animal is killed to make such fake meat. It is made of gluten and or soy products. I have no issue with that, the food does not smell like meat at all and does not really taste like meat.
