Dominican Third Order?

Ok. Well, since I cannot see any conflict between the two, and I don’t know what is in your mind when you use the term “charismatic renewal” I am quite certain I could not produce any references that will satisfy you. I am sure we are in agreement that there have been many abuses in the so called charismatic movement that do not belong in the Monastery or the Mass. However, I can see nothing about these charismatic monks, nuns and oblates that is contrary to Monastic Traditions. I think the types of "activities’ are entirely relevant, because it is clear that many activities espoused by the “movement” are inappropriate no matter where they are found.

Yeah. I think it’s a beautiful idea and sign of solidarity while maintaining the difference between Religious and lay.
 
It is common in some countries, off the top of my head the Philippines and Vietnam come to mind as the most obvious. It is not done in (most countries, there may be one I don’t know about) in the west. Vietnam is a special case as Lay Dominicans were the only third order permitted by the state so they are huge; I think they make up about a third of Lay Dominicans worldwide. They gather together every day for the Office, dressed in black and white.

Ahh I see.

Sometimes when there are lectures held at one of the the Dominican churches in NYC, I notice that some lay Dominicans sit up front together to show support for the speaker, and some Dominican Religious sit near the front as well, in their habits, of course. That to me, would be a good occasion to dress in white and black.

I agree. I think that would be a nice show of support as well as solidarity.

This leads me into my next concern. I have read at least 10 books and dozens of articles now about Dominican spirituality written by saints, masters of the order, etc. and I honestly cannot tell you what Dominican spirituality is. Thankfully, I am not alone in this. Several Dominican writers, including many of those same saints, masters of the order, etc. have remarked that Dominican spirituality has not really been defined or pinned down.
