From my childhood I always though that Protestants where accusing Mary of Adultery, when they claimed that Mary had relations and children with Joseph.

Do you believe Mary was married to Joseph (regardless of whether or not they had sexual relations) or do you believe that they just lived together?

I’m not saying she did…but, since Mary was married to Joseph, if she had had sex with him, it wouldn’t have been adultery, would it?

I mean, to be blunt…basically what Joseph was probably looking for in a bride was a young woman to have sex with to produce an heir and look after the household, right? I mean, that would be the purpose of getting married? (especially in that day and age?)

I am speaking now in the context of what Joseph would have been thinking about before they found out Mary was pregnant with Jesus.

Somebody else wiser than me can deal with the ramifications of after. I think I’m probably too simple for that.

Many of the protestant denominations do not belive in the Communion of Saints.

They do not when conveinent beleive in intercessors for prayers but this is hypocritical for the most part.

When you ask them then I, your pastor, on no-one else to is say a prayer for you at times of trouble or you get a blank look.

As they state pray directly yourself to Jesus.which of course we believe we can as Catholics, but also believe a person/Saint/ Angel/ Blessed Virgin Mary/ Saint Joseph etc… can plead for us also.

Remember Protestants believe in sola scriptura which means solely on scripture to which had come out of mainly Lutherism and they define this as being saved from faith alone to which no where in scripture doesw it state this. Except for once to which Martin Luther conviently added after he left the church.

They for instance do not understand that many of our prayers recite scripture.

Hail Mary full of Grace.

The angel Gabriel greeting Mary and Mary becoming impregnated through the Holy Spirit (Grace)

Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus

Elizabeth’s statement when first seeing Mary when she came to visit her shortly after her Imaculate Conception.

Holy Mary Mother of God.

A fact

pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen.

I need all the help I can get.

This çrap is as ridiculous as the anti-Catholic çrap that is espoused. Please let it stop. On both sides.

I’ve never heard of this stance in 6 years in a non denom church. If I did hear it, I would simply blow it off as folly and lacking wisdom.

This isn’t true of all Protestant denominations. Its hard to follow your post, you may be typing fast or something.

I know my church values intercessory prayer. We have an intercessory prayer team, we take prayer requests as a church via phone, paper, internet or mail in. Our pastors and intercessory team prays over them. I’m sure all the saints in Heaven are looking down on us and have some effect in the spiritual realm. So, I don’t object totally the concept they pray for us.

I do think scripturally, we are taught to pray only TO God, in Jesus’ name. But, I don’t have a hard stance on it, its pretty low on my list of concerns. 🙂

It never occurred to me to think of it that way, and I think it’s preposterous. She was married to Joseph, and no Christian group denies that, whether or not they believe in the Perpetual Virginity of Mary.

There are two issues here, as a former Southern Baptist I will address them separately.

As to the original post: I have never heard that in all my time as a Southern Baptist. Protestant is a wide term, so perhaps there are some who do, but if they exist, I have yet to meet one. Most Protestant churches believe that Mary and Joseph married each other sometime around the time of Jesus’ birth, so any sexual relations between them would not have been considered adultery. I also had never heard that Joseph was much older than Mary and a widower until I joined RCIA. If you watch the Nativity Story, that was pretty much my view on Mary and Joseph.

As to the second comment made about protestants not believing in intercessory prayer or the communion of saints unless it is “convenient”, you have your facts very wrong my friend. First of all, that is an incredibly mean spirited way to look at it. Nobody has the right to judge another person’s faith, IMO. Secondly, when I was SBC, although I did not believe that the dead could hear/see us, I did believe in intercessory prayer from those here on Earth. It was perfectly acceptable for me to ask somebody to pray for me, and for me to pray for somebody else. We did not believe the dead could pray for us, and since prayer was equated with worship, asking the dead to intercede felt like according the worship that is only due God to mere humans. In fact, I rarely if ever ask Mary or the Saints for intercession because I still have trouble overcoming that feeling. It is true there are a select few denominations that do not believe in intercessory prayer of any type because they believe that Christ is the only mediator between a person and God, but do not make hte mistake of thinking that those few speak for every non-Catholic Christian.

But does the bible teach that those that have the spirit within them at death do not die but live?.

Does the bible not say that those the have eternal life are in Christ and Christ in them.

Does the Bible not teach of eternal life and salvation?

Do you believe that Mary is in heaven with Christ. Do you believe she is dead or alive.

So when one does pray to a Saint or Mary does not one pray to someone who is with Christ alive but not dead?

So what a better person to request pray for you as an intercessor with one is is alive eternally with the father.

I know this is not a petty subject forgive me, but this idea has been burning in me for some time. Please let me know if you agree or disagree.

Points
1- It has been the understanding of the church that Mary may have given up her self up to God, much like many of our nuns. Ref: Mat 19:12 Lk 1:34, Lk 1:30

2- If a woman has a child out of wedlock it’s considered fornication or adultery a sin. That’s why Mary’s community would have stoned her. Ref:Exodus 20:14

3- God is all good and can not commit a sin or permit someone to commit fornication or adultery in Gods own part.

4- It’s possible for a woman to have a valid marriage ( God to Mary) and then remarry in a second invalid marriage (Joseph to Mary) and live in a state of grace, if the woman lives a chaste life with the second husband. Having relation with the second husband in this state wound be adultery.

Conclusion:

Mary gave her self up to God in marriage, had a son Jesus Christ our Lord by part of the Holy Sprit. Married Joseph and lived a chaste life with him, other wise they would have committed adultery against God.

Hi

I think the Protestant also love Mary as do the Catholics.

I have never heard anything like that or read anything like that from the Protestants. There is definitely some misunderstanding in this regard.

I am of the opinion that such superfluous and secondary matters have kept both the denominations apart. Please remove such hurdle blocks and work for unity of both.

I love Jesus and Mary.

Thanks

Although some questions might seem silly to some, people come on here to ask questions for their own personal reasons and would like answers.
As i said, it might seem a silly question to you, but at the same time, the OP has to right to ask such questions.
God bless

Why do you think Mary “married” God.
This is what is says
she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
I am very interested in exactly what you think occured? It seems very very strange and…well let me just see what you say before I proceed.
Married? I want details.

To have a child out of wedlock is fornication a sin, no?
Christ been that child must mean, Mary was wed to God.

To have a child out of wedlock IF fornication was involved would be a sin. Fornication was not involved. Mary did not have sex with anyone to be impregnated with Jesus.
Mary was not wed to God, the Holy Spirit or anyone else but Joseph.

There was no marriage, there was no sin. That’s what makes it miraculous.

If Mary then married Joseph, did she divorce God? If not, was she married to both? See the corner we paint ourselves into by that line of rationalization?

Wouldn’t having two spouses be bigamy?
