Seriously, why doesn’t she state any examples.?
Probably because this is an essay, not a research paper, and that foundation of that point - especially about conservatism and the republican party has been being made over and over again in the Bulwark.

What is you answer to the two questions?

Over the last couple of decades I’ve spent a lot of time wringing my hands about the gradual extinction of pro-life Democrats.

That’s because abortion is a hard enough issue to create consensus on to begin with. It becomes almost impossible once it transmogrifies into an entirely partisan issue.

Because partisan fights don’t get resolved. They go on for forever .

But here we are. And today Donald Trump is going to speak at the annual March for Life rally. Good for him. I guess.
Just two questions:

(1) Roughly how many people who are undecided on abortion will be convinced by Trump’s grafting himself onto the pro-life movement?

(2) Do you think that number is higher, or lower, than the number of soft abortion supporters who will harden when they see as the face of the pro-life movement not earnest high school kids or Sister Bethany Madonna or Tim Tebow or Russell Moore—but Donald Trump, the most unpopular and polarizing figure in modern American politics?

I don’t imagine his presence will sway those who are soft or undecided. So what? Does that imply that his speaking there is a disingenuous and unnecessary action? What I’m getting off of the usual anti Trump crowd is nothing he does is genuine. Is it for political expediency on his part? Maybe, maybe not again so what?.That wouldn’t be exclusive to Trump.Right?
Grafting himself onto this movement would hold some weight if he actually hadn’t done something positive. Which is what we normally get just lip service.

Look if anything the last three + years have shown the irrational and obstinate resistance by the Trump haters to anything he does. That he has not been given any credit for all his success’ that benefit everyone is very telling.I wouldn’t expect anything more from the shortsighted opposition. Just true to form.Ist really very disheartening and is getting beyond tiresome.Which I suspect is why most people are tuning out the Schumer Schiff sham show.

Pro-lifers should not attach themselves to a man like this.
Trumpism has corrupted every ideology and institution it has come into contact with. There is no reason to think that the pro-life movement will be excepted.
What a strange article, so the bulwark thinks it is better to vote for dismemberment abortions as the Democrats support. Not in my book, nor Birthday abortions, that again, is a great immorality the Democrats support.

And by the way, if one has supported the Democrat platform of violence, disproportional with minorities, perhaps the likes of Bill Kristol should be quiet and seen for the hypocrites they are.

Great point Victoria33.

Vote FOR abortion to help STOP abortion.

These ideas are so self-destructive, it is hard to be fooled by them when they are carefully looked at.

We are talking about the United States, not the world. And, in the United States, six out of every seven abortions are performed on unmarried women, hence there is most certainly a cause/effect relationship.
If it was a cause/effect relaitonship, it would be true worldwide. It overwhelmingly is not. One does not take a tiny slice of information and substitute it for the great mass of evidence.
Yes, it is an excellent way to bring attention to the issue and distract from the ongoing impeachment hearings.
Too late. i think everybody is already distracted; by the weather, what their clocks say, their work, the traffic, the sound of their own breath. I see where the Dem presentation is so boring that even Elizabeth Warren was doing crossword puzzles during it. And, of course, the ratings are miserable.

Additionally, nearly 50% of women seeking abortions are on some kind of birth control.

Watching it now and I never expected to hear the Stones’ “Play with Fire” on EWTN.

Edited to add, now they are playing “House of the Rising Sun”, a song about a man (or woman depending on who’s singing it) living a life of dissipation in a brothel. Who picks the music for this event?

Wow, I can’t believe I just heard that statement about made in the image and likeness of God coming out of a sitting US President’s mouth in this day and age.

Good job President Trump, you did the Lord’s work today.

(His usual closing with the angelic voices of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is surreal here though)

Neither do I. In fact, I think it will have the opposite effect.
If people can be swayed against the Pro-Life movement merely because President Trump speaks at the March for Life, then there is something inherently wrong with them. The Democratic and main stream media’s hatred of President Trump has produced pure evil.

That Catholics (and therefore pro-lifers) refuse to support a huge messaging system such as the March for Life due to one speaker, President Trump, seems to me to be indicative of putting the hatred of a person before faith in God and the Church.

DISCLAIMER TO MODS I am speaking about folks in general, not to any particular poster.

Yes. That would be sick. If that could happen, that would be “some serious Trump Derangement Syndrome” going on.

Hopefully that type of silliness and pettiness cannot go on inside of people out there.

When I log in and scroll through the topics, this one doesn’t even come up. 36 replies, you’d think I would have seen it.

I hope those in the pro-life battle are encouraged by their president today. It’s certainly been an uphill battle with a lot of casualties.

Thanks for the encouragement PennyinCanada.

And you are absolutely correct. This has been an “uphill battle with a lot of casualties.” Tens of millions of them. And hundreds of millions if you include the abortion pill and other countries outside the US.

Terrible atrocities. And the silence by so many is beyond my understanding.
