In the news:

thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/282397-pro-clinton-super-pac-hits-trump-for-mocking-disabled

Good ad showing Trump mocking disabled people! The Washington Post has a new article about this ad with the title, “This brutal new ad portrays Donald Trump as a full-blown sociopath”.
That alleged mocking was hyped by Republicans during the primaries, and how did it help them? Donald Trump still became the presumptive Republican nominee. I’m not saying his language/behaviour is ok, but people know that Trump has been vulgar and offensive. I suspect a lot of people put it to the side and though they may not like it, they care about other issues. There is so many negative and controversial things that Trump has said, who doesn’t know this stuff? Is it a shock, is it a surprise? Is this ad such a “brutal” takedown?

Bill Clinton made this remark during the 2008 presidential campaign regarding Barack Obama, “A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.”
Bill’s not running.
Never heard of the term before; don’t know how that’s racist.
Bad taste isn’t the same as racist. That was just bad taste.
And the apology from Clinton for the comment regarding Ghandi: nbcnews.com/id/3890946/ns/us_news-life/t/clinton-regrets-gandhi-joke/
Bad taste again. Not funny and borderline racist though she’s apologized and said it was lame (it was).
The Ghandi comment and the skit may have just been insensitive choices, not racist, but controversy has occurred.
Judge these things for yourself.
There has also been various accusations of racism in the Clinton campaign in 2008 towards Barack Obama from left-wing websites.
So, we have a two jokes in bad taste that she apologized for vs. saying a federal judge couldn’t rule on a case because of his ethnic background. Yep, I’m sure Catholics can judge these things for themselves without too much trouble.

Now the un- endorsements are rolling in; Senator Mark Kirk from IL just unendorsed Trump. ( if that is a word)
Which will probably gain Trump a lot of votes. in fact the more the more than un-endorse him the better it gets for him. Those who dismiss the chances of Trump being elected grossly underestimate the amount of disdain people hold career politicians in and how much people really, really dislike Hillary Clinton.

I reiterate what I said in response to somebody else on this thread - If Trump’s comments are going to be scrutinised on race, ancestry, and they should, then so should the Clintons.
No, you’re wrong. If someone is a racist. It doesn’t matter if some other person said racist things. Trump is a racist. If Ms. Clinton is also a racist (which is open to question), it doesn’t let Trump off the hook.

Of course it wouldn’t, but I’m not convinced Trump is a racist. If Trump and Clinton are both going to be their nominees of their respective parties, then both their comments on race needs to be scrutinised, that’s what I’m saying and I stand by it.

And thank you for finding the things you did so that we can see how Hillary has made a couple of mistakes and Trump has double downed on the idea that a federal judge who happens to be, we believe, Mexican can’t do his job because of his race.

You call it “bad taste” and that may be all that it is, but these things have had their share of controversy which is why’s she either kind of walked back or apologised, and Bernie Sanders, not somebody on the political Right, said she did use a “racist term” - those are his words and individuals can judge for themselves whether they think she did or it.

Hillary Clinton said she wants her husband to be in charge of the economy. That means he could presumably be given a major role in her administration, if she were to become President - his past comments on race deserve scrutiny.

You’re quite an optimist. I think this may be the proverbial straw.

So you think that the more deranged Trump acts and the more people in his party distance themselves from him, the more votes he’ll get?

He’s meat. He rode into the Senate in the 2010 by 2% and has been an ineffective Senator (somewhat because of health issues but also as the farthest left Republican in the Senate on social issues). He’s going to lose badly.
Yes he is going to lose badly. Tammy Duckworth is a formidable opponent. This is a Hail Mary for him. But for Trump, it could be a door opening to more un-endorsements. Seems like a lot of his supporters are scrambling.

So with Hillary Clinton it’s “bad taste” according to you and “a couple of mistakes” - and it may be, but I’m curious if Trump had said the same things as her whether you’d be saying the same. I’ve seen various sources today from the political Left who have been very critical of the way the Clinton campaign handled race issues in 2008 and very critical of things Hillary Clinton has herself said.

In bob’s defense, that’s the way it’s rolling lately. But eventually the campaign has to realize there are only so many angry old white guys.

Lets see-what is more racist-suggesting you are being treated unfairly buy a Hispanic judge or supporting the killing of 100,000 Hispanics a year?

"DONALD J. TRUMP STATEMENT REGARDING TRUMP UNIVERSITY

It is unfortunate that my comments have been misconstrued as a categorical attack against people of Mexican heritage. I am friends with and employ thousands of people of Mexican and Hispanic descent. The American justice system relies on fair and impartial judges. All judges should be held to that standard. I do not feel that one’s heritage makes them incapable of being impartial, but, based on the rulings that I have received in the Trump University civil case, I feel justified in questioning whether I am receiving a fair trial.

Over the past few weeks, I have watched as the media has reported one inaccuracy after another concerning the ongoing litigation involving Trump University. There are several important facts the public should know and that the media has failed to report."

"While this lawsuit should have been dismissed, it is now scheduled for trial in November. I do not intend to comment on this matter any further. "

Oh Oh. Just in. State senator David Johnson from Iowa has left the Republican party over Trump and his racist comments. …and so it goes.

Do you think this makes everything better? I don’t blame him for not commenting further, though, considering the reaction to his statement.

The more PARTY OFFICIALS distance themselves the more votes he will get. i dont know of any deranged acts Trump has done but i guess that is going to be the democrat talking point this election so I guess we’ll have to get used to it. kinda like having to get used to “crooked” Hillary

By this time next week everyone but the Hillary die hards will have forgotten about it and the focus will be back on how crooked and corrupt Hillary is and when the FBI indictment will come down

Maybe he should think before he speaks so that he can avoid saying things that might be misconstrued. Being presidential would require it. He would not only have to be careful to avoid saying things that might be misconstrued by his fellow Americans but also by foreign leaders. I just don’t think that Trump is able to do this and this is one of the reasons that he is not the right kind of person to be president.

It’s also kind of telling that Trump has not apologized for anything he’s said. I don’t think he’s capable of doing so.

Oh Oh. Just in. State senator David Johnson from Iowa has left the Republican party over Trump and his racist comments. …and so it goes.
Thanks for the alert. From The Guardian:

*Johnson announced that he was changing his registration to No Party after Trump levelled accusations of bias at Judge Gonzalo Curiel, an American judge of Mexican heritage who allowed the release of some unflattering documents from a case against Trump University.

“I haven’t supported Mr Trump at any point along the way but what I am calling his racist remarks and judicial jihad is the last straw,” Johnson told the Guardian.

Johnson compared Trump’s run for the Republican nomination to the rise of Hitler and said Trump won “by reducing his campaign to reality TV and large crowds and divisive language and all the trappings of a good show for those who like that kind of approach, and that’s what happened in the 1930s in Germany”.

He added: “I think that’s all I need to say, but certainly the fascists took control of Germany under the same types of strategies.”

Johnson also condemned Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the US. Referencing his own father, who was in the first American unit to liberate a Nazi prison camp, Johnson said: “I was raised without hearing any racial slur, any racial epithet. It’s something that if we’re going to exclude Muslims from traveling to the United States, who’s next? Are we going to come down on Jews? … He’s not fit to be president.”

Johnson also expressed his concern that there was “definitely an innate bigotry” among a large share of Trump voters. “It really hurts for me to say that, but it’s true,” he said.

The former Republican was still hopeful that the GOP would “dump Trump” at the convention in Cleveland.

“I want to be among those in the party who are willing to live up to Republican principles,” Johnson said.*

Right on, Mr. Johnson!

Trump is the American Hitler. Hope he never comes to power. He is terrifying, and it is terrifying that Catholics here support him. It’s insane, and very, very disappointing.
