Our parish Catholic Church has been asked to donate to a college Christian ministry whose goal is to spread the Gospel and evangelize. The Christian ministry is non-denominational however clearly not promoting Catholic beliefs. Question: should this matter.

TO ALL…This thread seems have jumped the track. The author of this thread said “our parish Catholic Church”. It sounds to me like the PARISH is making the contribution. Not indiviuals.

It looks like it’s on track to me…a parish is made up of individuals and a lot of the posts have answered her question specifically in regards to a parish or Catholic high school contributing to a group.

Just a comment that the reason we seem to be arguing about this is that our Catholic organizations, which in the past, acted on behalf of the faithful, have become secularized and would blend in with any number of “good” charities out there. As someone who worked for two different diocesan entities, I believe I can safely state that Catholics had best begin to take an interest in all of the Church’s entities to ensure that they put forward out belief in God as the reason for our “charity” or take the name off of it. Like our colleges and hospitals, charities are beholding to God first, and until Catholics speak with their voices and their money, they will continue to be off course and out of evangelical focus.

It all depends…
There are interdenominational ministerial associations that encompass a spectrum of beliefs but join to provide services for the needy, teen mothers, etc.
A Catholic parish I know is a strong supporter of Focus on the Family, and in one parish, a Sunday Mass was celebrated in memory of a very popular Southern Baptist minister who had been well-liked throughout the community.
I wouldn’t contribute to a building fund for a local Quaker church, but did contribute to the cost of tearing down the old one.😉

yes. It really, really matters.

I once was in conversation with an Evangelical lady whose church sent people to Poland to run sports camps. Apparently after these camps, the kids would be directed to an evangelical church in their city. She insisted that these were kids who had no faith life. I asked her why they didn’t direct them to a Catholic Church since most likely this is their family church. She didn’t have an answer.
I suspect she had an answer, but it was one you wouldn’t like.
Here come the Americans with fun and games, giving out presents and pulling the kids into Protestantism.
You hit the nail on the head. This so much reminds me of a story on NPR about how Protestantism is being spread to the Chaldeans in Iraq.

However, it is the ultimate responsibility of Catholic parents to teach the faith to their kids. When we ignore our responsibility, our kids are an easy target for these folks.
