I just don’t get this. If walls are wrong fences are wrong. If walls are wrong houses are wrong. I understand the Holy Father’s general intent but walls can be an important part of border control, which is just.

As to the statement about making others pay for it is the Holy Father repudiating all reparations? Is this principle to be broadly or narrowly applied?

Let the Pope lead by example then. Tear down the walls to the Vatican See and dismiss the Swiss Guard. Show us here in America how it is done Pope Francis; tear down that wall.

As for the Pope’s quote, I would suggest that there is a huge difference between laws, justice and accountability vs. vengeance, revenge and retribution. Actions have consequences.

As far as I am concerned, the Pope is squandering his moral authority by his forays into political rhetoric and agendas. There is little remaining now and soon there will be none.

I guess Catholics attacking the Pope is something we should expect here now.

This is about forgiveness vs vengeance, not Trump.

Are we so blinded by politics that we cannot see a metaphor when it punches us in the eye?

Next you’ll be saying Ezekiel 13 is about American politics.

And yet, you get to the *second *sentence of the article and you see the name “Trump.” Really, the whole (short) article is about Trump, not the Pope.

Dan

I’ll have to go read Ezekiel 13 and then I’ll let you know if it’s about American politics. 😃

How very soon we forget that a certain pope lectured the American people about building walls and how one can’t be Christian to do such a thing. And a certain pope also compared populism and the US election of President Trump to Hitler and Nazi Germany. Vengeance and forgiveness my eye – try the NWO globalist agenda complete with open society and open borders, carbon taxes because of “climate change,” wealth redistribution and a whole host of dark agendas. Catholic Spring anyone? And let’s not forget 1.6 billion in US federal government grants to Catholic Charities. Which masters are being served here? God vs. Mammon? God vs. One World Government? God vs. Socialism/ Communism? God vs. Modernism?

I know that his words can make people uncomfortable.

It’s not surprising that our Pope would take that view, but this is a matter where it’s his opinion, not something that we’re required to agree with. We must remember that Pope Francis’s birth name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio and that he is from Argentina. It’s no wonder that he is going to feel it unfair and un-Christian to build a wall keeping Mexicans out of the US. He pretty consistently backs socialist policies. Unfortunately, he should probably not be using his position of power to push his political views. It is unrealistic to expect the US to just keep allowing ILLEGAL immigrants to enter our country and allow them to get a free ride off of our programs.

Here ya go Trumpsters. This is the kind anti-Catholic crazy talk you are enabling.

Isn’t the Vatican surrounded by a wall?

A wall is for protection from evil people. If they are found to be legitimate, then they can join our population.

What’s the problem with that?

The pope does say “Building Bridges”. This means there is an existing barrier. The pope does not say, remove the barrier though because there is a barrier already, albeit a weak one the Mexico border.

As for saying that “A Christian can never say ‘I’ll make you pay for that’. Never!”, that is not right IMHO. If a person who is rich harms me or steals from me, a poor person, should I let him get away with it? If that rich person hurts someone else knowing nothing will happen, then it could be me who has the greater sin for not doing anything about it.

This divisive rhetoric needs to stop (on both sides).

Please address issues and stop labeling people or imputing motives.

Two little problems with that: First, I did not vote for Donald Trump (nor did I vote for Hillary Clinton either). And the second little problem is that I am a registered Democrat. 😃

But that’s okay, just ignore the facts. Because facts don’t seem to matter anymore.

Your attack upon the Holy Father was deplorable.
Couldn’t care less who you voted for.

It’s kinda funny that the Vatican is surrounded by walls and a Church tax was used to construct St Peter’s Basilica which comprises some of that exclusion zone. Those whole live inside walls paid for by others et cetera.

I get where the Holy Father is comming from, but at the same time it undermines sovereign nations by saying they cannot control their borders in a way they see fit. Heck there are many parts of Mexico where I, as a US citizen, am not allowed to own land. I cannot just move to Canada, New Zeland, France or any other country just because I want to. Would Pope Francis really just tell the Swiss Guard to look the other way if Italy built stairs from the Viale Vaticano so people could pitch tents around the Shell Fountain?

The reason that President Trump says that Mexico should bear some of the cost is that they do little, if anything, to stem illegal immigration from their side of the border. Given that many immigrants then funnel funds back to their home countries thereby enriching those countries, they have a vested interest in keeping the borders porous. The flow of immigration between two countires is supoosed to be a collaborative effort, but if one country turns a blind eye while being enriched by it then other means must be employed.
