Here’s the new thread for our new taskforce to take the CA forums to the hierarchy. Now, we need a good name. I just made a silly name for the thread. So, while we are awaiting a website development, let’s start with a good name and then start brainstorming ideas for our platform.

This sounds interesting… You mean the Church hierarchy, i.e. the USCCB? They can either follow the Pope or they can disband (or both!)…

Let’s start a draft:

As faithful Catholics, we are disturbed and confused by the politicization of the Eucharist.

At every mass, we see good people who cannot take communion in our churches, usually because they have been divorced and remarried. Yet we also see powerful politicians who publicly support abortion, who enter and sponsor bills making abortion more available being admitted to communion.

We see there are two Catholic Churches – one for ordinary Catholics like ourselves, and another for the rich and powerful. We see the Eucharist given to those who clearly are in violation of all the Church stands for, because it is the political thing to do.

We see Catholics who are confused – if leaders who espouse abortion do not receive the same treatment as those who merely remarry after divorce, how bad can abortion be?

Now, this merely offers a theme. We need to carefully determine the target audience, and we need to wind up with a call to action – tell the Bishops (and perhaps His Holiness) what we need them to do.

We are going on a mission to bring the message to our priests, bishops, and everywhere we can, that there are many committed catholics out here who believe all the teachings of the Church and that we are encouraging our shepherds to take a stand on the issues that may seem controversial and we are offering them our support. For Example: “If you (Bishop so and so) feel a call to really improve marriage preparation and education on the Church’s teachings regarding artificial birth control, you do not need to stand alone. We will back you up 100% and help as much as possible.” ]

We are sick of dissident voices being the only ones that get heard. We want to band together and show a united front, and deliver our message *in person * as much as possible. Since there are people on these forums from all over the country and even the globe, I think that we are in a unique position to reach the universal Church! Even if we only make an impression on one single Bishop, it will be worth the effort!

It’s a thematic approach.

The message must have three parts. The first is an introduction ( which is your more positive part) and the last is the call to action. What I offer here is a candidate for the middle part, the theme.

Or as a very good writer I once knew was wont to say, “Figure out what the message is, and then figure out the words to package it in.”

The message is that we will not end abortion until the Church speaks and acts with one voice. The current wishy-washiness not only fails to deal with the issue of millions of innocent deaths, but divides and confuses the laity.

Now the purpose of this thread is to develop and hone the message. One we have one we can agree on, we post it to a website and begin to collect “signatures” before sending it to the Bishops and perhaps to His Holiness.

Yes. We want to give encouragement to our leaders to stay strong, and not be afraid to take a stand on tough issues. We want to offer our support and let Bishops know that they have lots of back-up on the ground. I agree that we may not want to start out too confrontational. We have to start with the assumption that many of our shepherds want to speak about these issues but feel like they will be crucified for it, not only in the secular media, but among the Catholic laity as well.

We do not, as yet, have a proper mission statement, or even a name for that matter. That is what this thread is all about: Brainstorming and coming up with a plan of action.

Vern, you have some good thoughts started there. I like the idea of exposing how some recent developments have caused confusion among the laity. We want to encourage our leaders to present a non-wishy-washy unified statement about these things. Keep the ideas flying!

Like I said, this is just to get people thinking. I usually think better if I’m given a starting point, maybe others are like that too. Rewrite, toss, rewrite again as you think it all through!
