Sanity? Whatâs that?I love Chritmas traditions in CAF, As Chritmas approaches we are sure to find threads about how the Christmas Tree is condmend by Jeremiah as a pagan idol and we risk eternal damnation by puting it up AND that anyone who tells their Kids tthere is a Santa Claus are craven liars who risk destroying their childrens belief in Jesus when they find out the truth. Fortunately sanity will return on or about December,26. smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_15_61.gif smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_16_18.gif

Yes. Donât tell me how to raise my child and I wonât tell you how to raise yours.Am I being anal?
I wouldnât say anal, but to the extent you believe in the concept (including the powers) of the God set forth in Catholic Scriptures, then you are being a bit hypocritical. It seems to me that the evilness of lying (not telling the truth) about something goes out the window when people tell little kids about Santa Clause and how he is real and lives in the North Pole, etc etc. I donât see why we should feed our kids lies because people think itâs one of the âjoysâ of Christmas for little kids. I say tell them the truth that Santa is just a myth, or better yet, tell them about the real St. Nick who lived back in the 4th century!

In a childâs mind he might come to believe that since Santa Claus is connected to Christmas and isnât real, and that Christmas is a holiday which was used to Christianize pagans, that everything else about the Christian religion is a fairytale as well. You need to know what youâre getting into.Once my kids figured it out I did not lie and I resent the people here who say we are liars.I told a story, a fairytale. To liken the fairytale of Santa Claus to the
Yes, and in some countries that is the traditional day to give presents, not Christmas day. Christmas day in America was really developed by Coca-Cola when they engineered the modern Santa Claus and retailers put them in malls to boost retail sales. In traditionally Catholic countries, gift giving is held on Dec. 6th.Well, I told my kids that Santa wasnât real, but the younger ones donât believe me!
We do celebrate St. Nicholasâs Day on December 6th!
Well, I am into and out of it, being a young parent that isIn a childâs mind he might come to believe that since Santa Claus is connected to Christmas and isnât real, and that Christmas is a holiday which was used to Christianize pagans, that everything else about the Christian religion is a fairytale as well. You need to know what youâre getting into.
I have no opinion either way as I am not yet a parent.
Good point. They may realize that they shouldnât swallow every story that they hear without critically analyzing it. Then, the may realize that while Jesus was a significant historical figure, most of the mythical stories about him in the Bible are probably false. Then, they may see no greater reason to pray to a man that passed away 2000 years ago.Iâm with Guardian. A lie is a lie is a lie. Period.
If we tell our children about Santa Claus, and then we tell them about Jesus, and then they discover that weâve been lying to them about Santa Claus, what are they going to think about what we tell them about Jesus?

If we go by this thinking, my father-in-law died two years before my child was born, to them he was never a real live person, just a man in the picture that daddy tells them stories about. Maybe they should not believe he ever existed.Good point. They may realize that they shouldnât swallow every story that they hear without critically analyzing it. Why are you so defensive? I wasnât speaking about you personally.Well, I am into and out of it, being a young parent that isMy youngest turns 18 on Dec 29th. FYI, they all believe deeply in their Faith and never ever thought Mama or Daddy âliedâ to them. My kids are smarter then that, thank you.
Huh? Did you read what I wrote or did you just see âpassed awayâ and then click reply? I didnât say that we should deny the previous existence of humans that are now deceased. Câmon people get real here. The average child is around 7-8 when he/she starts to realize Santa doesnât exist. Also most children recieve their First Commuion at that time, which means they are mature enough and understand fairytale and whatâs real![]()
Letâs not get catty here. We all are entitled to our opinions and assuming what someone might have meant is probably not a good idea.Yes. Donât tell me how to raise my child and I wonât tell you how to raise yours.

yes I read your post and I think it is so silly that people in general, not personally you, seem have this idea that children are so stupid that when they grow up they canât tell the difference between fairytales and Teachings of the Church. If we instill the Teaching of the Catholic Church and show them Love for Jesus, then a silly little tale like Santa should not make a difference.Huh? I agree, why spoil it for them? Unlike many of the Churchâs teachings, the stories of Santa Claus are harmless. I figured out that the stories of Santa Claus could not possibly be true around the time of kindergarten or first grade. But even after that, Christmas was still fun. Catholicism took a little longer. That may have been due to the fact that many of the adults around me seemed to believe in the idea of God and the teachings of the Church so that influenced my young mind a bit. When I was in around the third or fourth grade though I realized that almost all of the biblical stories were mythology and I think I completely rejected the idea of God a few years after that.yes I read your post and I think it is so silly that people in general, not personally you, seem have this idea that children are so stupid that when they grow up they canât tell the difference between fairytales and Teachings of the Church. Let kids be kids and enjoy the magic and sweetness in their eyes.

I wasnât being catty. Honestly if someone feels allowing their kids to believe in Santa is wrong then itâs their right to raise them that way.Letâs not get catty here. We all are entitled to our opinions and assuming what someone might have meant is probably not a good idea.
