i’ve read Veronica Lueken’s revelations (Our Lady of the Roses). Rock music was created in the temple of Satan. i struggled with that rock music analysis for a while before finally making the jump. These days i listen to Classical Music, Gregorian Chant, etc. Anything after the 1920’s i am skeptical of. And that’s one of the greatest moves i ever made. i have grown spiritually since then. i found the Latin Mass shortly after giving up the modern music among other positive things. i can’t speak for you people but as for my own life it was a good choice for me.

Hey, after i found Gustav Mahler there was no reason to go back!

You can make the lyrics arguments all you want but at the end of the day my conclusion is this: There are saint’s relics which can have a positive impact on you while you are near them or have them in your possession whether you realize they are relics or not. Conversely, can there not be elements which have a negative effect on you whether you realize they should or not?
Sorry but the notion that rock music originated from Satan is pure urban myth. Furthermore, rock songs are purely man-made creations. For them to have the negative effects you are describing would require a rite of sort (like an occult blessing if you will) to be placed on them.

As far as lyrics go, rock music and its instruments have been used by many musicians all over the world. Would you then care to explain how these foreign songs are demonic when I don’t even fully understand the lyrics?

So, fulbert, would progressive rock (classically influenced music like King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, ELO, Pink Floyd, Kansas, etc.) be the ultimate form of defiled music? 😛

Really, what is your jusification for your accusation that rock music was created in the “temple of Satan”? There were plenty of classical composers that were just as immoral as any rock musician. Or any human being, for that matter. What makes 1920 the cut off date? If I were to write a monophonic chant right now, would that automatically make it demonic?

Veronica Lueken?? As in Bayside? Lueken’s private revelations were disapproved by her local bishop. I wouldn’t put stock in anything from them.

Oops, feel kinda stupid for not noticing that! Here’s the official letter concerning Lueken.

ewtn.com/Library/NEWAGE/MUGABAY.TXT
  1. No credibility can be given to the so-called “apparitions” reported by
    Veronica Lueken and her followers.
  1. The “messages” and other related propaganda contain statements which,
among other things, are contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church
    ,
undermine the legitimate authority of bishops and councils and instill
doubts in the minds of the faithful, for example, by claiming that, for
years, an “imposter (sic) Pope” governed the Catholic Church in place of
    Paul VI.
  1. Those who persistently maintain that “no ecclesiastical permission is
required for the publication or dissemination” of information concerning
“revelations, visions or miracles,” are erroneously interpreting the
directives of the Holy See when they attempt to justify the publication of
the propaganda literature on the “Bayside Messages.”

Yes, the local bishop condemned the alleged apparitions of Veronica Lueken back in 1986 source]. We should stay away from these messages completely as they contain elements that are at odds with authentic Catholic teaching.

In other words, it’s not a good source to use to justify rock music being “of the devil.” 🙂

Wow, I just noticed the second post in this thread referenced Lueken, and I completely missed it till now! :o Yeah, I suppose research could help cut some nonsense.

Rock music is not of the Devil. Like w/ everything good, the devil tries to defile it. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes not. Here is an excerpt from Progressive rock band Yes, Onward

“Contained in everything I do there’s a love I feel for you.
Contained in everything I write you’re the light burning brightly
Onward through the night
Onward through the night,
Onward through the night of my life!”

Is that not beautiful? Christian even? And it’s 100% pure art, pure music, pure rock. It’s a soft song, granted, but nestled comfortably amongst Yes’ signature sound.

These are the lyrics to a song by the great Moody Blues. I don’t know who they intend to be talking about, but can they not be talking about Jesus? All in all, they paint and beautiful and optimistic picture of Love. These songs are anything but demonic.

Words, a simple song
A minstrel sings,
A way of life in his eyes
Hear the morning call of waking birds
When they are singing, bringing
Love - love, Love.
Everywhere love is all around,
Everywhere love is all around.

Now the winter’s gone
Cold wind has blown
The endless stream in our lives
Where the minstrel sings
This simple song
He’s always bringing, singing,
Love - love, Love.
Everywhere love is all around,
Everywhere love is all around.

Listen to the one
Who sings of love.
Follow our friend,
Our wandering friend,
Listen to the one,
Who sings of love.
Everywhere love is around,
Around, around.

Here the nations sing
Our minstrel’s song,
As he walks by in their lives
Soon the spring will come,
And everyone will all be singing, bringing
Love - love, Love!
Everywhere love is all around,
Everywhere love is all around.

Listen to the one
Who sings of love.
Follow our friend,
Our wandering friend,
Listen to the one,
Who sings of love.
Everywhere love is around,
Around, around.

All that said, again, the devil tries to infiltrate all good things, anything that will get to us. He wants to steal our hearts from God.

As I commonly say: “Safety is Dangerous.”

Caution is well called for, not hiding out of fear, afraid to move.

God be praised, Guide us on the path, Lord!

Sneezes

This is retarded, Lindenburgh was a Commie, why is he any different?
Are we going to condemn flying because of Lindenburgh…
NOOO we are not.
So if you don’t mind, please shut up about music being all bad,
Listen to Tecotta and the Fugue in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach,
That is proof that Rock has existed long before Elvis.

Here is the link to that song:

Hey we’re all playing a game called “Will the crazy person raise their hand up really high!”

Psst, Fulbert, if you don’t raise your hand you are going to lose the game!!!

I try to be nice to people in forums, I really do. But I hate it when people get online and make convoluted statements with no factual basis just because of the anonymity. Would you really say rock music is made in the temple of Satan in public?

This made me trace the roots of rock and roll music. So I looked it up. Turns out, rock music has its roots in R&B, blues and jazz. These styles of music are dominated by African-Americans. Now this makes me wonder, when you see cranky people say “Rock music comes from Satan,” you could reasonably draw the conclusion that the person is wildly racist, as they call it’s predominantly African-American origins Satan.

Crazy? Not any more so than these lunatics.

Ponder that one. And then crank up some Credence Clearwater Revival.

facepalms

I teach a course in university on the history of rock and roll, and like all complicated subjects, there is a lot more to it than just sex, drugs, and perceived Satanic influences. Heavy metal, for example, has more in common with classical music than Satanism. Rock is not about devil worship; it’s about syncopation and the eventual elimination of steady beat keeping early rock n roll in favor of adding more layers of rhythm, wherein the beat comes from a complicated interactions of rhythms, namely the rhythm guitar and drums keeping the rock layer while the lead and bass guitars play against the regular rhythm. And thus, the illusion of time-keeping comes through the sophisticated texture of the music. See, nothing to do with the devil.

Yes, especially the attitude and patterns prevalent in electric blues, which heavily influenced the power trios of the 60s, like Cream (Eric Clapton) and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The debt rock owes to electric bluesmen cannot be overstated.

Thanks for sharing a factual opinion with us. Annoys me that the people who post these things will say something so blatantly false, and we never hear from them again. Probably better that way though.

celticsfan1983,

So, are you guys down there proud of your American Idol? 😉

As for rock music, yeah…it would be nice if those people who think it’s “the devil’s music” could come sit in my class and learn what rock is really all about. Of course, rock is a genre, a medium, just like a book or a TV show. Books are not intrinsically Satanic, even though Moby Dick is an “evil book.” Same goes for rock music. Rock is not intrinsically evil, even though there are Satanic bands out there.

Hey, uh, it says you live in Tokyo, um… can I ask a question about Japanese rock music? You see, that’s actually the only the type of “rock” music I listen to nowadays (don’t ask me why, it’s probably too obvious anyways 😊). What songs there do you define as “rock”? Is it the way the music sound or the type of instruments used?

The whole town went nuts! Very proud of Kris Allen…I know he’ll do great things musically for years to come.

That is, if Satan worship doesn’t overtake his soul due to his tunes being THE DEVIL’S TUNES!!!

Geez Louise, I’m already in a bad mood today.

I actually came across someone (in these very forums, unfortunately), who did use this information about the roots of rock music as evidence of its’ “satanic” origin. The person claimed that rock is satanic because it originated from satanic/paganistic African tribal rhythms! Putting aside the fact that paganisn and satanism are vastly different things, I asked if that wouldn’t that mean that anything with a consistent drum beat is somehow satanic, but I never got a response. 🤷

Some people do need to stay away from such music to live more peaceful, God-centered lives, but it’s not a moral obligation for everyone. Many of us are capable of living holy lives even while listening to rock and/or metal music (because of God’s grace, of course, not because of our own effort).

I’d love to be able to answer your question, but I don’t listen to Japanese music. No offense, but my philosophy is this: there’s so much good music out there, so I don’t waste time listening to mediocre stuff. 😉 Rock is defined not only by the way it sounds but also by the instruments used. The electric guitar is the key. Without that, it’s not rock. Also, rock has a certain rhythm, borrowed not only from African percussion patterns but also from the electric blues.

hahaha
No worries! We all have our bad days… 😉 Rainy season has started here, so it’s been raining non-stop. I’d be in a bad mood, but today is my 12th wedding anniversary; so I’m really happy!

I got that same message, from a guy earlier in this discussion (won’t give a name, as I’m not sure how posting private messages relates to forum rules). Here’s what the crazy guy had to say
Crazy person:
It’s not a reasonable view to assume i’d be a racist person. i hate the sin, not the person. If the origins of Rock are from the African Blacks then i can say i’m not surprised. After all, the blacks are descended from Sem, the evil son of Noe. The punishment/effects of sins can be extended to future generations.
There are so many things wrong with this response that it’s not worth dignifiying with a response.
