There’s this one band that I enjoy listening (and headbanging) to. They’re called Skillet and they sing rock/heavy metal, but the lyrics are really meaningful.
Once the leader of Skillet, John Cooper, had just finished a concert and most of the people had gone home. They were cleaning up when John noticed this guy watching him. The guy was big and dressed totally in black and he was just staring at John, making him uneasy. Finally the guy walks up to John and to John’s surprise, he’s got tears in his eyes. He starts telling John about his life and how he felt like this one song that John had sung was for him. The song is called “Last Night” and it’s about this girl who hates her life and wants to commit suicide. Then the chorus basically tells her that if she gives God one chance, He’ll make it the last night she’ll ever spend alone. The guy wasn’t a Christian. He had just gone to the concert because of the style of music. But he and John ended up hugging and crying and John was praying for him.
I guess my point is, maybe rock has been used to endorse Satan. But Christ has taken something bad and changed it into something good. If Christ can use this music to bring more people to Him, then it needs to be encouraged, not condemned.
