Spare a prayer for the Swiss Guard :D:D:D

I fully expect to read the following newspaper headline any day now:

Swiss Guard asleep in barracks while Pope sneaks out at midnight to talk to drug gangs 😃

I’m really liking this new Pope of yours 😃

THanks friend!

I’m pretty excited too!

I think he’s going to be another special one. I mean, the more I read about him…the more exciting I get. And the first time we met him on the balcony after election… I think what he did really says it all.

When I watched him…as he looked over the crowed…he was scared to death! interested, excited, …but scared.

I think that’s an awsome first start! To know that all this is bigger than yourself, and the task is all but impossible. AWSOME! Perfect!

And to think… his first act was for us to bless him (and that he insisted on picking up his own bags from the hotel he was staying at and to pay his hotel bill).

Also…he’s only got one lung ( I wonder if God is going to do anything with this as it relates to the schism with the eastern. church).

God bless him and I hope he is with us for a very long time.

Orthodox Patriarch to attend Papal Inauguration

Patriarch Bartholomew I, who is regarded as the spiritual leader of the world’s Orthodox Christians, will attend pope’s inaugural mass for the first time since the Great Schism between the Western and Eastern churches, Vatican Radio said.

I so love our new Papa!! šŸ™‚

wow! I didnt hear that.

Also… I heard that he had some connection to the eastern rite. that he helped with their litergy, or had to participate in it … I dont know. I’m rambleing… but I know I read there is a strong connection with him and the eastern rite.

Yes, I believe he was their Ordinary in Argentina for a while. šŸ™‚

:extrahappy::extrahappy:
I can also see:

Swiss Guard very annoyed at having to share their rooms with Rome’s homeless!

Swiss Guard loose Pope on trip to Capetown. Pope found safe and well playing with children in the slums!

Swiss Guard have to jog back to Rome after Pope sells Limo to pay for medicine during unscheduled stop at Hospice!

Remember these young Catholic men in your prayers.

They’re about to earn their wages 😃

I thought the same exact thing, like he was totally in shock. Of course, we can all understand that, but I have upped the number of prayers I am saying for him. I guess I just felt sorry for him. I know I wouldn’t want that job! šŸ™‚

lol, right. Looking over that sea of people and realizing, ā€œI’m going to have to answer before God for all of theseā€

He does seem to be a good, humble person who wants to help people and isn’t afraid to get out there and be with the people.
He really does seem to want to keep that direct, hands on connection with the man and woman in the street, doesn’t he?

I can’t imagine the nightmare responsibility of keeping a Head of State safe.

But a Head of State who is also Head of the Global Church who insists on taking the bus, stops by hotels, carries his own bags and walks along greeting people on the way to work

I don’t think that security manual is even written

These young men must feel such an enormous duty and responsibility.

I’ve been reading about them, and their history.

Absolutely fascinating.

So I thought I’d give them a mention. 😃

That was my impression but someone on the Forums suggested he was so overwhelmed with the power of the Holy Spirit rather than being scared was just lifted out of the moment. I think he felt the power and strength of Christ with him and ā€œcame back to earth.ā€

I’m so delighted with every additional bit of information on our new Holy Father. Everything he’s done makes me think…where have you been and why didn’t we know about you until now? But I imagine many Priests and Cardinals are working quietly at their own dioceses and no one even knows of the love and kindness they are sharing

Have any of you ever read Bl. John XXIII’s autobiography? I had to take a course on him when I was a seminarian. His autobiography is a spiritual testament, but it reads like a warm novel.

Pope Francis is starting to remind me of Pope John. Pope John gave the Vatican police a run for their money. He sneaked out so many times that they were ready to put him in chains. One time, by his own admission, he put on a black cassock, a fidora and trench coat and sneaked out a service entrance. Roman police found him when he purchased ice cream from a street vendor, went to pay and found that he had no money in his pocket. He tried to give the vendor an IOU. The vendor thought that the old priest was senile and stopped a police officer on patrol.

I heard that the good Pope Francis pulled another fast one on the security team today. He was to have a meeting with the cardinals in one of the halls. Normally, the pope does not wander around the halls without an escort. When they went to escort him he was missing. He navigated his way to the hall on his own, to the chagrin of the Swiss Guards.

My only question is how can a man in a white cassock just disappear from under your nose like that. Unless they have have several hundred Dominicans and Cistercians hanging around, he’s not too difficult to spot.

He seemed to stand still for so long.

When he shifted his weight onto his left foot, I thought, oh my gosh, he’s going to faint.

I was maybe just projecting though.

Were it me, I’d have fainted as soon as the curtain came back 😃

He was probably in some kind of spiritual place.

When he spoke, I was really taken aback.

I don’t know why that should be - I think it was the warmth in his voice.

He seemed to instantly connect with the gathered multitude.

I think there’s something quite special about this man.

ā€œSuperPope - faster than a speeding bunch of men in medieval uniformsā€ 😃

I think that he was shifting because the man rarely stands still. He has a reputation for being on the go. This is a man with one lung. Imagine if he had two.

White smoke??? 😃

Look on youtube at the past few popes that came to that same window : john paul I, John paul II, Benedict …and then look at Pope Francis.

It’s crazy.

It’s said that people in the vatican household were coming to greet him and he polietley said, ā€œnot now, the people are waitingā€ā€¦and then walked out.

He was shaken when he looked at the crowed …and then seemed to kind of took a breath and just drank it in (almost like a father looking at his son for the first time!). AND then in a shy ways said brothers and sisters…and then almost like a switch was flipped said " good evening" in italian so good I wanna learn italian!

Knowing what I know now of him, I believe you’re right.

But he did make me take a sharp intake of breath for a moment.

Much like I think he’s going to do with quite a few people during his Papacy 😃
