I am getting irritated w/ the news media lately. They keep bringing up the ordination of women. As if John Paul II was the only one keeping that from happening. I have even heard “Chris Matthews” of MSNBC say that he wishes the Catholic Church would allow the ordination of women. This was just hours after the Holy Fathers death. Am I the only one who thinks that this is pretty much a closed position of the church. I hear the media talking about how weekly mass attendance is down significantly in the U.S. and Europe. So they talk about allowing women to be ordained, taking another stand on divorce, abortion, and artificial contraception. Lets just bend the rules make it easier, water things down is what I hear. Let’s not take a look at our actions and our positions on these issues. It’s our fault that we as a people don’t attend mass as much as before. I am 24 years old and you know what I loved so much of the Pope. It wasn’t that he tried to seem hip and cool and bring things down to our level. It was the fact that he stood for what is right even though he caught grief for it. That he didn’t compormise on moral issues and that he did so in a loving way. Have you noticed that church attendance is down in the countries that have so much and our so wealthy. But Catholocism is thriving in countries living in poverty. I don’t know about the rest of you but that speaks volumes to me. That because we have so much that we don’t have time for god anymore. But that’s not what I hear when I turn on the T.V. I hear the next pope needs to reexamine these different moral teachings to help bring more people back to the church. They just don’t get it do they? I will pray for them

That’s why I got rid of our tv! We have one in the master bedroom for emergencies or to tape educational stuff, but otherwise I’m finding we really didn’t get anything usefull out of it.

The U.S. mdeia pretends that they do not know that there is a big entitled, “The Catechism of the Catholic Church”.
The book is very clear on the Church’s teachings.

And, for the media’s knowedge, said book is even translated into English.

nccbuscc.org/catechism/text/

1577 Only a baptized man (vir) validly receives sacred ordination."66 The Lord Jesus chose men (ver) to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry.67 The college of bishops, with whom the priests are united in the priesthood, makes the college of the twelve an ever-present and ever-active reality until Christ’s return. The Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord himself. For this reason the ordination of women is not possible.68

Actually, I am deeply impressed by the continuing coverage of the Pope and his passing. It is in-depth and remarkably favorable. I was struck by the overwhelming admiration of John Paul II voiced during the different interviews with various religious leaders and prominent Catholic figures. CNN’s reports on April 2 were beautiful and so was the witness of some of the priests interviewed. The latter deflected critical questions about women’s ordination and contraception with passionate, loving testimonies of faith.
