It seems that in the last few years especially, people are just going out of their way to be as rude and inconsiderate as possible… whether driving, at the supermarket, or wherever… Not all, of course, but defintiely more than ever…

i am just wondering exactly why this would be so (other than the fact that Jesus said "In the last days, perilous times will come… " something about how people will be lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God and how the “love of many will grow cold because of sin”…

i wish i knew where those psgs were in the Bible but no Concordance handy…

anyhow… i suppose those scriptures cited answer the question…

II Timothy 3:2: “People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy.”

I totally agree with you. I am just amazed at the sayings I see on people’s T-shirts, many using the F word, things like “I love me” and “I’m ignoring you”, and much worse. I take the subway here in NYC, and I see pregnant women and old people standing on the trains while young men sit. Just the fact that profanity is used everywhere with not a thought about it and how offensive it might be to someone.

This may sound like a stretch, but I think much of this goes back to legalized abortion. When we as a nation and as a world decided that people were disposable, that if my baby is an inconvenience to me so it is my right to get rid of it, our nation’s soul died, and we became a selfish and uncaring people, concerned only about our own comforts and our own “rights.” Now it’s all about what makes me “happy.” The other person doesn’t matter at all.

We have no respect for each other because we have no respect for life itself.

I think it is more that people in US are scared of being victimized and so keep a cold outer shell for protection.

They are rude, but i think that all of the martyrs throughout history that have suffered and died for Jesus, would beg to differ with our incessant whining!

Secular humanism has rendered members of the human species objects of manipulation for one’s personal gain.

Whether it is a boy or girl as an object of lust. A client who is an object to obtain money from. A doctor is a servant one can sue for lots of money if one is lucky and something goes wrong. Politicians see their constituents as stats to manipulate for tax money and power. Students as objects of indoctrination. The driver in the next car has no net worth to us, so if they annoy us, they become an object of our frustration.

People who hang on to the old-fashioned view of treating another fairly or politely are mowed down like weeds. Office workers or fellow students use them as objects of ridicule and derision.

I blame TV and the Internet.

This reminds me of a day some friends of ours, along with all our kids, went to a park, and, after having settled on a place for our picnic, were horrified when some other folks came in with a ghetto blaster turned up all the way. Not only that, it was spewing the most awful rap “song” in which every other word was the F word. We packed up and moved to another section of the park, but I couldn’t help feeling for the kids of those people who were being exposed to that sort of filth.

I don’t think it’s a stretch at all. You can’t tell an entire generation of kids that they were totally worthless before they were born and expect it to have no effect on them.

this is SO strange!!

i have had this exact thought, almost word for word… about how Roe v Wade started it all… (well human nature did but somehow human nature has apparently gotten worse recently)…

yes, our soul died…

abortion kills even those who would never do such a thing… because we pro-lifers have to live our lives knowing that this kind of butchery is going on and there doesn’t seem to be much we can do about it…

although i do need to get back to protesting at the clinics… assuming such a thing is still legal…

which reminds me…

eveyone gets on Roeder’s case because he killed tiller the abortionist in church…

which incidientally may not be such a bad sign… i guess some people at least seem to agree that getting rid of a baby-killer per se wasn’t such a huge absolutely unforgivable wrong, just that it shouldn’t have been done in a church

but in any case…

Roeder probably had no choice … since it was probably illegal for any protesters (and he was the ultimate protester) to be in front of the abortion clinic…

anyhow… such ironies…

yes but how to explain pregnant women and elderly standing in a subway train while young teens sit…

a martyrdom is a martyrdom and in some ways, well, some martyrs got their suffering over with a lot faster t han others & went to go be with Jesus and all those other wonderful persons in heaven… we who live these days have to put up with Satan’s nonesense 24/7 365… and little martydoms every day add up … to a big one in my opinion… and my experience…

Oh my goodness, YES! Just signal a left hand lane change on the freeway, and watch the fun as the cars behind you speed up, to make sure you do not get in front of them. We are going to start checking out the hearing impaired headphones at the movie theare, to drown out all the talkers, fussing young children, and popcorn bag crumplers. I avoid shopping at certain stores, not because of the store, but because I can’t stand the attitude of my fellow shoppers, letting their children run everywhere, opening packages and leaving them sitting in the next department and pushing you aside to reach a certain item. :banghead:

well, you can’t blame TV because it has an off switch… same w/ internet…

also, there is the hammer… :compcoff::manvspc::takethat:

i blame people who think they have to watch TV in order to “relax”… instead of finding something more consturctive to do… which is not hard to do… sitting and staring into space while twiddling your thumbs is far more productive… (and incidentally far more entertaining) 😃 but then, that is hardly saying anything, is it???

2 1/2 Losers… Case closed…

anyhow… this part of your post is right on:

People who hang on to the old-fashioned view of treating another fairly or politely are mowed down like weeds. Office workers or fellow students use them as objects of ridicule and derision. ***

That may be part of it - it is why a young child will yell ‘stranger!’ and run away when you so much as glance at them in a supermarket (no really that’s happened to my grandma).

People just look confused when they see courtesy. For instance, I’ve gotten some weird looks just for opening a door for a person and smiling. I was impressed today, though, when a young girl opened a door for me and knew how to respond when I said ‘thank you’ (‘your welcome’ instead of ‘yep’). 😃

In response to the OP, I’d say people are just selfish. Perhaps more now than ever but that doesn’t make it a sign of the end. Think of Sodom and Gamora (sorry no idea how to spell that) - rudeness, selfishness, lust, and just plain sin has (almost) always been around.

so so true…

i’ve heard young people comment on this kind of thing… They are perplexed that they were alllowed to live and yet their siblings or peers were not… I’m sure they see as i do that there is no real (objective) rhymre or reason to it… just the whim of the parent(s) who thought they didn’t want a particular child…

I’ve heard of children who tell their parents “Thank you for giving me life.”

and parents (pro-life ones) sying: God gave me no choice (and of course, there was more to their answer than just that…since most parents are very glad they had ALL their children… choice or not)

some young people even have survivor guilt…

very sad… 😦

Not where I live, 🙂 most people ( teenagers included) are well mannered, will say ‘hello’ 'and pass the time of day with a smile and are willing to lend a hand. I know it’s probably not representative of a lot of places,( I was talking to a visitor a couple of weeks ago who, after a week’s holiday here, was thinking of moving house here because even when standing at a bus stop complete strangers would chat to her whereas where she lived she didn’t even know her neighbours). The ‘rude minority’ are more noticable than the ‘polite and friendly’ but there are many more pleasant people than unpleasant ones:D

you may have just increased the population of your area by a few hundred… 😃

where do you live - England??

yes - this is where i’ve noticed more rudeness than anywhere else… while on the road…

and it is the strnagest thing because it wasn’t like this even just 3 yrs ago… (find it hard to believe it was just a matter of me not noticing 3 yrs ago… )

could it have something to do wtih who is president??? hmmm…

people drive too fast and without courtesy…

are they angry because they think the world is coming to an end?

or do they figure the world’s coming to an end, Hey… might as well live fast… or something…

or maybe they want to live dangerously so as to get out of here sooner…

hmmm… i can kinda relate to that one…

probably because they know it is (and we have) the truth

the truth really does hurt…

but it doesn’t go away just because we scream “OUCH!!! Stop it!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! AHHHHHHHHH!”
:ouch::eek:
The truth will set you free . . . . but it will hurt like hell on the way - said to me by my priest. 😃

🙂 Yes, a small town in North Yorkshire, I know most people in the nearby streets by name and the town’s still small enough that you’ve a fair idea of who a child belongs to so if they’re in trouble you know who to take them to and if they’re misbehaving they know news of it will get home before they do:D Many families have lived here for generations ( my family have spent the last 400 odd years living 60 miles away but within 5 minutes of moving here neighbours were knocking on the door to say hello ) Don’t let the few rude people spoil life for you, they’re not worth it:)
