WisdomSeeker,

I have a question for you.

How do you interpret 2 Thess 2:3 regarding the “falling away”, and that immediately after, the “son of perdition” coming to power?

Then again, how do you interpret 2 Thess 2:6 and 7 regarding the “mystery of iniquity” already working, and that the one that is “witholding” or “restraining” the man of sin will soon be “taken out of the way”?

Also, how do you account for the fact that 1. The Son of Perdition was known as “Judas” (within the Church), and 2. That nearly all the early Church Fathers believed that the Antichrist Power would arise IMMEDIATELY or “SHORTLY AFTER” the fall of the Roman Empire?

Also, how do you account for the fact that this that all these early Church fathers believed the commensing of the antichrist power would rule for approx. 1260 days/42 months/time times and a half? Or, or perhaps said by a Cardinal himself “12 centuries long” (a good approximate). ? A day for year principle is regarded here according to the Historicist line of thinking.

Tell me, who ruled during the Dark Ages over the kings of Europe? The Papacy? or the few little families of Waldenses and Huegenots in the mountains? You tell me brother. And whichever it was that “ruled”, the bible says that the one that “ruled” or “reigned”, was the evil one. Not the ones given into their hand.

Seriously my friend, we’ve got to look at this very simply! It’s a no brainer!

God is not the author of confusion.
first you are confusing me with a Bible believer only. it is not the case. we as Catholic, i am sure you already know that the Church is the One enterpreter of the Bible. i say what she says.

2d Catholcs dont enterpret verse by verse.

3rd i dont know what you are trying to imply with these verses.

4th where exactly do you see the confusion?.

5th you Bible believers since the Bible was taken from the CC, i mean taken because it was not given to you but taken, many different enterpretations have occured. so tell where is the confusion. you also cite many of the Fathers of the Church, very interesting.

keep studying them it might lead you to the Truth.

Plus you should be joyfull about the Church being in Rome. remember when Jesus came the romans were in control of the Holy Land. the roman empire falls and today we see Jesus ruling through His Church at the heart of Rome into the whole world. it is no small potato my friend. you people are so consumed into reading the Bible that you pride yourselves into believing you can understand what is written and blind yourselves to what is really going on around you.

do not confuse freedom from sin with freedom for enterpretation of the Word of God.

hope to continue our chat.

Are you mad at Doug Batchelor because he is right, or are you mad at yourself because you do not read or study or even know the Bible as well as he does.
hello bible christian - an honest question to you, if you can answer it. what motivated you to abide by the teachings of ellen white and not of Jesus Christ?
God bless.

WisdomSeeker,

I do not question that God’s church is to be the interpreter of the Bible.

You see, the difference between us is pretty simple. You think the Catholic Church is “God’s Church”, and I say you’re plain “wrong”. You see?

I say God’s church comprises of those faithful people. You say God’s church is the Catholic Church, that has the Pope as its head, and owns its own city state (the Vatican).

I say believers are God’s church, and we must take counsel only from sincere believers. If a person who claims to be a part of the “church” teaches something “contrary” to scripture, well…ahem…I’m sorry to say, but that’s just evidence that they are not “the Church”! 😛

Here are some scriptures your church does not rightly teach:

2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”

John 7:17 “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.”

And finally…

Acts 17:10,11 “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming [thither] went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

Now I want you to notice something very particular here WisdomSeeker.

Notice that these Noble Bereans didn’t just say “Oh! Well, the Church says this is how things are, so we better not study to verify if it is true, because God already gave wisdom to the church!” OH NO! That’s not what the Bible teaches my friend! We are to search the scriptures with readiness of mind to SEE if what is being taught is “so”.

And guess what? If the Catholic Church teaches something false, I am OBLIGED before the Lord to rebuke it and show its falsity! And if they do not change, guess what? They cannot be considered “God’s Church”! Plain and simple.

This my friend you do not see, in which you are in grave error about.

As long as you hold on to this erroneous and heretical teaching that only the Catholic Church is God’s true church from which you receive counsel from, it’s impossible for you to be lead in full truth, wisdom, and underststanding.

you made yourself an authority over the Church. and believe that you can by your undestanding determine who is the True Church. i think many people like yourself probably dissagree with on this issue. No i dont think the CC is the True Church i know so.
I say God’s church comprises of those faithful people. You say God’s church is the Catholic Church, that has the Pope as its head, and owns its own city state (the Vatican).
wrong. i have no such authority to make the CC the True Church. she is what she is because Jesus made her to be what she is.
I say believers are God’s church, and we must take counsel only from sincere believers. If a person who claims to be a part of the “church” teaches something “contrary” to scripture, well…ahem…I’m sorry to say, but that’s just evidence that they are not “the Church”! 😛

2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
i have no clue what you are trying to imply here. what is the CC doing wrong with this verse?
John 5:39 "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."
again no clue. what you are trying to imply.
John 7:17 “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.”
no clue. what you are trying to imply.

Tertullian

In the third century, “If we desire indeed to act the part of open enemies, not merely of secret offenders, would there be any lacking of strength, whether of numbers or resources?” “We are but of yesterday and we have already filled every place among you – cities, islands, fortresses, towns, marketplaces, the very camp, tribes, companies, palace, senate and forum. We have left nothing for you but the temples of your idols, for now it is the immense number of Christians which make your enemies so few, almost all the inhabitants of your various cities being followers of Christ.” **

I guess the only way Mr Batcholer can live his faith is by tearing anothers’ down. I don’t know too many people that give 7th day adventists too much credence. They seem to espouse hatred more than any type of sembelence to christianity at all. “By their fruits you shall know them.” Batcholer has some rotten fruit…with all those nasty flies flying around them.

I also have a question for you emarc, an honest question to you, if you can answer it. What motivated you to abide by the teachings of the Pope and not of Jesus Christ
I’ll be glad to answer you.
Jesus changed Simon’s name to Peter, which means “rock” and said in Matthew 16:18-19; “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you lose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” He appointed Peter to be the shepherd of his Church. In John 21:15-17; “When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” (Jesus) said to him, “Feed my sheep.” Jesus gave Peter the authority to strengthen the other apostles in their faith, ensuring that they taught only what was true. Luke 22:31-32; “Simon, Simon, behold Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat, but I have prayed that your own faith may not fail; and once you have turned back, you must strengthen your brothers.” The apostolic succession commenced from Peter when Jesus appointed him and continued to our present Pope Benedict XVI, a 2,000 year historical marvel only God can do. And if you check the early fathers’ writings by Polycarp who was a disciple of St. John the Evangelist, or the biographies of Peter’s successors such as Linus from 67 a.d., Anacletus from 76 a.d., Clement I, from 88 a.d., you’ll see the grave error you guys are committing by ignoring the true teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I pray that thru this brief explanation, you’ll open your eyes to why Catholics abide by what our Church and the Pope teach us as Jesus truly demands of those who believe.
Now, what motivated you to abide in Ellen White’s teaching?
God bless.

Jesus is not calling Peter the rock.

Jesus is the Rock. He’s telling Peter, “Peter, you will build my church on this rock”.

You’re missinterpreting the verse.

Here is a good brief explanation for proof that Jesus is the Rock, not Peter: wordoftruthradio.com/questions/47.html

You do not build a temple on a pebble. You build it on a “Chief Corner Stone”. Jesus was the “Chief Corner Stone”. (Matthew 21:42)

Hi Catholics,

There is a guy I saw on the BET network. His name is Doug Batchelor, president of his show called Amazing Facts. In his show he preaches the bible using an 80 inch screen television. He has made me upset. If there are Catholics right now reading this, please give your feedback. I’ve watched other religious channels before but they never criticized other religions. This show brutally criticized the Catholic Church.

Let’s begin on what Mr. Batchelor preached:

Catholic Church Attack #1

Mr. Batchelor said he read the book Crossing the Threshold of Hope written by his Holiness John Paul II. In the book it says:"Confronted with the Pope, one must make a choice. The leader of the Catholic Church is defined by the faith as the Vicar of Jesus Christ (and is accepted as such by believers), The Pope is considered the man on the earth who represents the Son of God, who ‘takes the place’ of the second person of the omnipotent God of the Trinity. page 3

Mr. Batchelor stated this is blasphemy. He states “The Bible states that God is Holy, Holy and reverened is His Name.” He argued that the Pope is man and since he is man he is human. Human falls short in the Glory of God. He said that the pope shouldn’t even consider himself the 2nd of the trinity…

Catholic Church Attack #2

Mr Batchelor stated “Where in the Bible states that Sunday is the holy day of obligation?” He said “A long time ago Saturday was the holy day of obligation, it was a Catholic Tradition. Constantine wanted to satisfy the Romans so he made Sunday the holy day of obligation for the Romans because that day was assigned as the Sun God.” He continued saying that because of this the Catholic Church had two days of obligation. One day was Saturday which was Catholic Tradition to be the holy day of obligation. The 2nd day which was Sunday was made to make the Romans happy. So for many years we had 2 days of obligation and soon, Catholics broke away from tradition and assigned Sunday as the holy day of obligation. Mr. Batchelor said “Check this out, this is why Catholic Tradition falls short and that is why there is no scripture to back this up.”

Catholic Church Attack #3
Mr. Batchelor said that the Catholic Church was brutal in persecuting non-believers or didn’t believe in the Catholic way. If someone was caught preaching against the Church they would capture him, tie hiim up and let him dehydrate. So once the unbeliever became thirsty they would crack glass in a small towel and soak it in water and let him swallow it so that the glass will cut off his vocal cords so he can’t preach heresy. He continued saying that the Catholic Church would bury women alive who were unbelievers and execute children right in front of the parents face. He said it was a total of 50-70 million people executed. He quoted this on Popes V2, p.334
hi, its sad but true. the inquisitors were the vilest of all murderers. the number of inquisition dead arent 50million but are around100-200 thousand.

hi, its sad but true. the inquisitors were the vilest of all murderers. the number of inquisition dead arent 50million but are around100-200 thousand.
certainly the inquisitors did not take care of all of them, for we still have some of them around. because we no longer have the inquisition looks like the numbers of heretics continue to grow andangerous the souls of many.

no offense but is this your only hang up? those who lived during Jesus time, themselves affirmed Peter’s leadership. any disputes or misunderstandings they had were settled by Peter (Acts). Jesus himself called Peter to be the chief shepherd to tend and feed his sheep, and to ensure that the disciples teach the truth and not false teachings, which you, unwittingly or not, try to mislead other Christians with your false interpretations w/c you advocate. Jesus himself gave the key of authority to Peter. you don’t believe Jesus appointing Peter as the “rock”. fine, but what about the other calls he asked Peter to do, which happen to be consistent to Peter being the “rock”? i’ll pray for you but please let the Holy Spirit come into your heart and let him convict you.🤷 you claim to be a bible christian, but resist the Truth. open your heart to his words.
God bless.

Notice that these Noble Bereans didn’t just say “Oh! As long as you hold on to this erroneous and heretical teaching that only the Catholic Church is God’s true church from which you receive counsel from, it’s impossible for you to be lead in full truth, wisdom, and underststanding.
That is a VERY BIG job and responsibility you’ve taken upon yourself, to determine false teachings of the Catholic Church and rebuke it…a very big job indeed.

And do you hold this same job and responsibility in pointing out erroneous teachings in the Seventh-day Adventist church? Other churches? ALL churches?

And if so, should we all check with you regarding what we believe to make sure we are on the straight and narrow?

And most importantly, do you apply the counsel you so readily give to others, to yourself?

Are you willing to let scripture speak for itself and admit your errors? Or would you try to make the point that you are not in error in your reading and interpretation of the Bible?

As a former Seventh-day Adventist myself, I once had this “corrective” attitude toward other churches…but an amazing thing happened when I actually began to read the verses BEFORE and AFTER those verses I used to use to argue the SDA point of view…

anyway…
Jesus is not calling Peter the rock.

You do not build a temple on a pebble. You build it on a “Chief Corner Stone”. Jesus was the “Chief Corner Stone”. (Matthew 21:42)
Actually no he is not misinterpreting the verse. Let’s look at the verse in context:

**Matthew 16:13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15"But what about you?" he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.**

Notice that the context of his passage is a conversation where Jesus is asking the disciples who others think he is.

The other disciples say John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the other prophets.

But when Jesus asks them who they think He is, Peter immediately speaks up and declares the Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, The Son of the Living God.

And because of Peter’s response of faith and belief, Jesus tells Peter he is blessed because only God the Father could reveal that to him.

Then Jesus tells Peter that he is Peter and on this rock He will build His Church. And Jesus is still talking to Peter when Jesus tells Peter that Jesus will give Peter the keys to the Kingdom of God. And Jesus gives Peter the authority that whatever Peter binds and looses on earth will be bound and loosed in heaven.

Jesus is talking to Peter in this conversation and addressing Peter and Peter’s faith that Jesus is the Messiah as revealed to Peter by God the Father.

And yes, Jesus is the Conerstone of the Church, the first and most important stone laid in the foundation upon which the laying of all other stones depends as the structure, The Church, is built.

Jesus is the Conerstone. Peter’s faith and testimony that Jesus is the Messiah is the Rock of authority which Jesus freely gave to Peter. And all believers are the rest of the stones which build The Church. See 1 Peter 2:4-6, Isaiah 28:16 in addition to the verse in Matthew 16 above.

If you keep the job as rebuker of false teachings and misinterpretations of scriptures, it will be a good idea to at least read the scriptures accurately and in context.

Oh yes…prayer is very helpful too!!!🙂

God bless all!!!

certainly the inquisitors did not take care of all of them, for we still have some of them around. because we no longer have the inquisition looks like the numbers of heretics continue to grow andangerous the souls of many.
We DO still have the inquisition. It is called The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Cardinal Ratzinger was the Prefect for years.

God bless.
You say that catholics abide by the teachings of Jesus?..Jesus kept the 7th day sabbath Holy, NOT the 1st day. He kept the 7th day sabbath even in His death.

I have to go cook but I’ll try to make this short and direct.
  1. The Pope does not take the place of Christ and has never considered himself the second person of the Trinity. Doug is arguing against his own strawman. The Pope is the Vicar of Christ, and a servant.
  2. Sunday was stated in the Bible several times as the Lord’s Day. Constantine did not change the day to Sunday, that’s another lie they like to promote. Read Justin Martyr’s First Apology (written in the 2nd century). The Mass and Sunday is described in there.
Show me in the Bible where it says that the 1st day of the week is the Lord’s day…Let me give you a hint…it doesn’t.
  1. He probably got his examples out of Montanus and Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, since statistacally, that does not add up.

When the Bible talks about the Lord’s day…it is talking about the 7th day sabbath. The day that Jesus kept Holy, a day of rest. And if Jesus is the same yesterday, today , and tomorrow. Then so is the Holy 7th day sabbath.

Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and not the other way around. do you remember what Jesus said to the pharisees about the Sabbath.

tell me, where did you get your authority to teach the Word of God?
