I do like the article in the sense that it is something to be known. But man, they did not do a good job writing the article. It is a lot of talk. What products are dangerous? Which ones have more danger than others?

I might have missed that, but I did stop reading less than half way trough.

Dignoti ultimately concluded that the fire originated with the cord Parra was using to charge his cellphone. His report stated the cord experienced a short circuit, and while it was unclear why this happened, “the heat produced by the cord ignited the upholstery for the office chair.”
I am always leary of cords, maybe on some things it is a good idea to buy a brand name. I can’t even imagine what I am getting at the Dollar store.

Very good advice! Many charging devices are supposed to have a chip that monitors the power delivered…to prevent overheating as well as overcharging the device. If the cost of the charging unit…batteries, power brick, etc…is really cheap, then they likely skipped the chip!

Best prices on quality gear other than that made by the top companies come from Newegg.com or Anker.com. Both are highly regarded in the industry. Cheap China knockoffs are really risky…many will do just fine…until they don’t!

Amazon is supposed to be removing the bad ones as they’re discovered but it’s an endless game of whack a mole!

USB-C cables have resistors in them to communicate the maximum wattage of the cable. A USB-C cable could support up to 75 watts. Unfortunately, there are some manufacturers that will set the cable to signal high wattage when it doesn’t actually support it.
